Magnus, Richard Charles
Progressive Conservative MLA, Calgary-North Hill
Richard Charles Magnus was born in Goose Bay Labrador July 31, 1950. He graduated from Old Strathcona High School in Edmonton and is a licensed pilot. Richard was an air traffic controller for over twenty years. He has resided in Calgary for the past 16 years where he was elected as Alderman for Ward 4 in October, 1989 and re-elected in 1992. During his tenure as Alderman, Richard served on an average of 17 committees. This included Chairing the Standing Policy Committees of Finance and Budget and the Transportation, Transit and Parking Committee.
An active and concerned community participant, Mr. Magnus has served on the Cambrian Heights Board of Directors. Richard also coached children in soccer and springboard diving.
He was a businessman in Edmonton as owner/manager of Melody Lane Records until 1978 and was involved in menswear and health club for many years. Richard Magnus was first elected MLA for Calgary North Hill on June 15, 1993 and was re-elected March 11, 1997. Mr. Magnus has served as the Chairman of the Standing Policy Committee on Financial Planning, Chairman of the Standing Policy Committee on Natural Resources and Sustainable Development and Alberta's alternate representative on the Energy Council. On April 15, 1997, Mr. Magnus was appointed Chairman of the Council on Professions and Occupations as well as a member of the Standing Policy Committee on Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection.
Richard is married to Jena, and lives in North Calgary with their three children, Rees, Natalie, and Casey.
