Progressive Conservative MLA, Calgary-Fort
Mr. Wayne C. N. Cao was elected to the Legislative Assembly on March 11, 1997, as MLA for the new riding of Calgary-Fort. His current appointments include: Member of the Standing Policy Committee - Community Services; Member of the Sub-committees of Supply and Designated Supply; Member of Select Standing Committees on Private Bills, and Privileges and Elections.
Wayne is a certified Information Technology Professional who holds ISP professional designation from the Canadian Information Processing Professional Society.
He worked for the Shell Petroleum Company for 24 years serving as an Automation System Specialist, a Team Leader, a Service Manager, a Group Supervisor, a Project Manager and an Information Technology Consultant/Advisor before taking early retirement in 1997.
Wayne has received technology and business management training from Shell and various training institutes, and has studied engineering and maths-science at the Universities of Auckland, Saigon and Waterloo. He taught evening computer science courses for the Association of Engineers of Saigon, Vietnam, and at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Mr. Cao is a past Director of Kimson Consulting Services and Canadasia Management Consulting, a past Chairman of the Data Warehouse Special Technology Special Interest Group of the Canadian Information Processing Professional Society, and a past member of Data Processing Management Association. He has participated in various charity and social organizations, including the New View Global Vision Foundation, the Viecan Philanthropy Foundation and the Calgary Minor Soccer Association.. Wayne also has worked with Calgary community TV, and has contributed his time as an advisor to student cultural events, a volunteer/session leader with the Junior Achievement Stay-in-school Programs, a debate judge for high school, a volunteer/contributor with Meals for Homeless and as a participant and fund-raiser for various charity events.
Wayne has been an active participant in provincial, federal and municipal elections, serving as a campaign worker, poll station worker, credential checker and scrutineer. He also has lent his voice to the cause of Canadian Unity.
Wayne Cao was born on December 7, 1946. He lived, worked and traveled in many parts of the world: Vietnam, France, UK, Holland, USA, New Zealand, Australia, South East Asia and Eastern Canada. He has lived in Calgary for the last 21 years with his wife, Kim Hoang, an engineer and banking professional, and their three sons, William (U of C), Winston (Waterloo University), Ulysses (Queen's University).
