Day, Hon. Stockwell B.
Progressive Conservative MLA, Red Deer-North
Hon. Stockwell B. Day is Provincial Treasurer and chair of the Treasury Board in the Alberta Government. He is also minister responsible for the Government Re-organization Secretariat, Regulatory Reform, and Financial Institutions including Trust Companies, Credit Unions and Insurance Companies
Mr. Day graduated from high school in Montreal and went on to attend the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia. He received training in auctioneering and business in British Columbia and Alberta. He also took counseling and ministerial training in Alberta.
Mr. Day brings a wealth of business and community experience to his present post. In business, he has been active in Day's Auction Sales and as a commercial interiors contractor. His community work experience includes serving as Administrator and Assistant Pastor at the Bentley Christian School from 1978 to 1985, working on Teen Challenge Ministries, and serving as an education consultant.
Stockwell Day has been involved in a number of community activities including fund-raising for local boards and associations and serving as a member of the Red Deer Rotary Club and the Red Deer Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Mr. Day was first elected to serve as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Red Deer-North in May of 1986. He was re-elected in subsequent elections in March 1989, June 1993 and March 1997. He was appointed Provincial Treasurer on March 26, 1997. Previous appointments include: Minister of Family and Social Services; Minister of Labour; Agenda and Priorities Committee of Cabinet; Member, Treasury Board; Member, Standing Policy Committees on Community Services and Health Re-structuring; Chair, Select Special Committee on Parliamentary Reform; Government House Leader; Deputy Government House Leader; Chief Government Whip; Chair, Premier's Council in Support of Alberta Families; Chair, Tourism Education Council; Vice-Chair, Select Special Committee on Electoral Boundaries; Member, Premier's Task Force on Senate Reform; Member, Select Special Committee on Constitutional Reform.
Stockwell Day was born August 16, 1950. He is married to Valorie and has three sons, Logan, Luke and Ben.
