Doerksen, Victor Peter
Progressive Conservative MLA, Red Deer - South
Victor Peter Doerksen was born in Bassano, Alberta, on November 25, 1953 and grew up in Linden, Alberta. He is a business professional with applied experience in the field of banking, private business and Crown corporations.
Victor became a Certified General Accountant in 1980 which complemented his previous education as a Computer Analyst Programmer. Prior to that he spent several years in Religious Education studies. He has a commitment to ongoing education evidenced by the completion of numerous courses and seminars both as a participant and as a leader.
Victor's career began as a computer analyst programmer, following which he served as a credit officer with the Federal Business Development Bank and as a controller for a private business.
In 1982, Victor joined the Bank of Montreal. During his 12 year tenure with the bank, Victor held positions in both line and staff roles, progressing rapidly into senior management responsibilities. As Senior Manager, he had tours of duty in Brandon, Manitoba, Edmonton and Red Deer.
Victor was first elected as MLA on June 15, 1993. During his first term in office he served in the following capacities: Deputy Chair, Alberta Heritage Savings and Trust Fund Committee; Member, Legislative Offices Committee; Chair, ImplementationTeam on Accountability in Education; Member, Standing Policy Committee on Financial Planning. He was re-elected as MLA for Red Deer-South on March 11, 1997, and has been appointed to the following: Chair, Alberta Research Council; Deputy Chair, Alberta Heritage Savings and Trust Fund Committee; Member Services Committee; Standing Policy Committee on Health Planning.
Victor has always been active in community affairs, serving on United Way committees, church boards and coaching volleyball.
He is married to Doris, and together they have the privilege of raising four children.
