LOIS GOODWIN
PICTOU
A loving heart stopped beating February 8, 2016 when our dear mother, Lois Ida Goodwin,
passed peacefully from this world, comforted by the love of her three daughters, as we shared
favourite memories of a life well lived, in a room filled with laughter and tears. Born in Pictou,
NS on October 26, 1929, she was the daughter of the late William and Jennie (Mills) Baker. In
1954 she married her one true love, Elmer Goodwin, and together they made a loving home for
their three daughters. Lois was a caring wife and devoted mother and grandmother. Her
children were the center of her life and she was so proud of each and every one of them. The
happiness and needs of her family were always her first priority - her generosity, kindness and
love knew no bounds. Lois so enjoyed and loved raising her children and cherished every
minute spent with her family. We will miss her loving guidance and wisdom, but will forever
cherish the time we had with her. Mom will be remembered for her many talents – she was an
accomplished seamstress, and sewing clothing for her children gave her great pleasure. She
maintained a beautiful garden for many years and prepared countless splendid meals for family
& visitors. Lois was a talented writer who shared a keen interest in current events and, for many
years, enjoyed contributing to the local paper’s opinion section. She also spent many hours
helping her children and their friends with tutoring and school work. Lois was known for her
flair in decorating, and took great pleasure in decorating her home for the changing seasons.
Many will remember Lois for her love of all thinks pink, both in her fashion, her garden, and her
home. In retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling the province in search of antique
treasures. Dad’s love & devotion was an inspiration to us as he cared so patiently and lovingly
for our mother for so many years throughout her descent into Alzheimer’s. He was absolutely
heartbroken when it became necessary for her to be admitted to long-term care. Not a day
passed that he didn’t tell us just how much he missed her. Although we mourn her passing, it is
comforting to know that she is with him again. For more than a decade, Alzheimer’s slowly took
our beautiful mother from us – May you now go in peace our dear mother, free from the
enormous burden you have been carrying for far too long – you have earned your wings. Lois
leaves behind countless cherished memories for her three daughters, Rebecca MacCallum (Marc
Landry) Pictou; Amber (Stephen) Vines, Westville; Rachel (John) Clark, Trenton; and her
precious granddaughter Kayla Clark. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Elmer
Goodwin; and her brother, Harold Baker. Cremation has taken place under the direction of
McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment of
ashes at Seaview Cemetery will be accompanied by a private family graveside service at a future
date. Online condolences may be forwarded to mclaren@ns.sympatico.ca. Those wishing to pay
tribute to our mother’s memory can do so by sharing a simple act of loving kindness.
ot time, nor space, not even death
will ever separate you from your mother
you carry her inside you forever …
We Love You Mom.
