Randy Morrison
39, Glace Bay
Beloved husband of Heather and devoted father to Liam, Randy Morrison, passed away peacefully, Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at the Glace Bay Health Care Facility following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the former Joan McLeod and the late Dee (Alex) Morrison.
Randy attended Holy Cross School and Saint Michael Senior High. He was a graduate of the former Vocational School in Sydney in 1979. Following graduation he completed the three-year boilermakers apprenticeship training program achieving the highest mark in the province of Nova Scotia.
Randy worked construction with the Boilermakers Local 73 until being hired in 1986 by Nova Scotia Power at the Seaboard Generating Station. He also worked at Lingan Generating Station until 1993 when he was forced to leave due to ill health.
Randy was well known and respected by his peers as an expert welder whose precision and talent were second to none. He was always willing to share and teach his knowledge of welding and did so on a professional level as a welding instructor at the Nova Scotia Community College in 1984.
As well as his professional talent Randy’s artistic work and ‘inventions’ were well known to his friends and family. He was a master craftsman whether it was working with wrought iron, steel or wood. Those who are lucky to have his works of art will treasure them always.
His greatest loves in life were his wife Heather and son Liam. He always put them first and even up until his death, never worried about himself, only his wife and son.
He was an avid sportsman who played gentlemen’s hockey and golf, but his greatest joy in life was watching his son play hockey. He never missed a game even when he was ill.
He also loved to travel and to dance as so many were witness to at the many functions he and Heather attended. Randy loved to work in the yard, always improving his property as his neighbours will attest to. A true friend to all he always lent a helping hand to those who needed it. His mark has been left on many projects.
A brilliant mind who always had a new idea or invention and was only too glad to share it with a neighbour or friend. Randy was truly a great man, who had many friends who both respected and admired him for his kind and generous ways.
Anyone that knew Randy knew how strong a man he was, never complaining about his illness, but, dealing with it with the utmost dignity, strength and courage. Those fortunate enough to have had Randy in their lives were truly blessed, as his spirit and kindness touched everyone in a very special way. We did not have him long enough, but, his heart and courage will remain with us always.
Randy is survived by his wife, Heather (nee McPherson) and son, Liam, at home; his loving mother, Joan Morrison, Glace Bay; mother and father-in-law, Tommy and Mary McPherson; sister, Vicky, Halifax; brothers, Darryl (Patricia), Glace Bay, and Mario (Tracey), Vancouver, B.C.
