Marie Antoniette (AuCoin) Doucet
90, Cheticamp
Marie Antoinette (AuCoin) Doucet, 90, of Foyer Pere Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp, passed away at the Sacred Heart Community Health Center, Cheticamp.
She joined her husband, Joseph, Saturday, April 14, 2001, surrounded by her five loving sons and their respective families.
Born in Cheticamp Nov. 21, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Willie (á Hélène) and Marie AuCoin.
She and her late husband Joseph married in Cheticamp in 1936.
She graduated from the Nova Scotia Teaching College in Truro and taught at several local schools for 25 years – including for two years in a one-room school where there were 75 pupils from Grade 1 through Grade 10.
She built a reputation as a teacher’s teacher.
She also took great pride in organizing the annual school Christmas concert, at which she would provide piano accompaniment.
Throughout her life she was sustained by her strong faith and her abiding love of family and friends.
Hard work, persistence, fortitude, resilience and humility were some of her trademarks.
Most of all she led by example and eventually settled comfortably into the position of family matriarch.
Above all, she was an unrelenting giver.
For the past eight years she has resided at Le Foyer Pere Fiset in Cheticamp, whose dedicated staff and fellow residents became her precious extended family.
Her loving sons and pupils have long since assured her legacy of faith in God and her vision of an expanded world through the magic of education.
At the same time she instilled in them a strong pride in their people, place and home.
She was predeceased 16 years ago by her husband Joseph and earlier by their son Charles.
Also predeceasing her were sisters Annie Blanch (Chester) and Lydia, and her adopted brother Albert Lelievre.
She was predeceased by brothers-in-law Philip (Jean), Denis (Margaret), Charles (Viola), and Father Albert Doucet and by sister-in-law Marie (Emelien) and brother-in-law Charles (Annie Blanche).
Maman will be missed greatly by sons, Gerald (Vida), Halifax, Fred (Alina), Ottawa, Philippe (Léona), Moncton, Raymond (Carol), West Palm Beach, Fla., and Maurice (Marie), Cheticamp.
Mémère will be remembered fondly by 17 grandchildren, Marie, Michelle, Dana, Gerry, Lise, Paul, Mark, Danielle, Kevin, Denise, Glen, Nadine, Louise, Ken, Joanne, Pierre, and Terry, and by step-grandchildren, Brian and Brad; as well as 12 great-grandchildren, eight great-granddaughters, Emma, Jenson, Breton, Kate, Cameron, Gabrielle, Lauren, Erin, and four great-grandsons, Alexandre, Jack, Will and Aiden.
She is also survived by sisters-in-law Cecile LeBlanc, Waltham, Mass., Viola Doucet and Jean Doucet, both of Halifax.
And also by 20 nieces and nephews.
The family is deeply grateful to Dr. Claudie Aucoin, her personal physician for 30 years and more recently Dr. Marcel Aucoin.
Additionally the family thanks the hospital nurses and staff as well as the palliative caregivers led by Marie Stella Doucet and Wilfreda Fiset.
Special gratitude goes to Father Stephane Gamache who recently entered her life, yet guided her from this earth into God’s hands.
No expression of family appreciation would be complete without special gratitude to the wonderful people of the Foyer Pere Fiset, the home of Marie Antoinette for the past eight years.
Visitation will take place at Cheticamp Funeral Home today (Monday) with visiting hours from 2-4, 7-9 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 17, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine with Father Stephane Gamache officiating, co-celebrated by Archbishop Austin Burke and assisted also by Father Hughie D. MacDonald.
Burial in the parish cemetery.

Marie Jeanette Camus
75, Cheticamp
Marie Jeannette Camus, 75, of Cheticamp, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp.
Born in Cheticamp, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Elizabeth (Larade) Haché.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp.
She is survived by five sons, Pierre Joseph (Martine), Sydney, Andre (Gisele), Lionel (Lorraine), Alphonse (Majella) and Gelas (Gisele), all of Cheticamp; two daughters, Patricia (Mrs. Clovis Roach) and Dauphine (Mrs. Michael Larade), both of Cheticamp; one brother, Alex John (Laurette) Haché, Cheticamp; 16 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
She was predeceased by her husband, Napoleon Camus, grandson, Joey Camus and brother, Pierre Joseph.
Visitation will be held at the Cheticamp Funeral Home today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp with Rev. Maurice Riberdy officiating.
Interment in the parish cemetery.

Elvina Bourgeois
77, Cheticamp
Elvina Bourgeois, 77, of Cheticamp, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Community Health Center, Cheticamp.
Born in Cheticamp, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Henri Deveaux and Julie (Boudreau) Deveaux.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch No. 32, Royal Canadian Legion, Cheticamp.
She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club and Ladies of Ste-Anne Society.
She is survived by her son, Daniel (Mathilde), Cheticamp; daughter, Juliette (Mrs. Joe Moroze), Sydney; two brothers, Calixte, New Waterford and Joseph (Elizabeth), Belle Marche; two sisters, Sr. Rita Deveaux, Moncton, N.B. and Marie Marguerite AuCoin, Ontario; four grandchildren, Paula, Cathy, Joe and Stephanie; three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gabriel Bourgeois and infant son and two brothers, Willie, and Francois.
Visitation will be held in the Cheticamp Funeral Home from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday).
A private family funeral service will be held Friday at the Cheticamp Funeral Home with Rev. Maurice Riberdy officiating.
Interment in the parish cemetery.

Charles Bourgeois
65, Cheticamp
Charles Bourgeois, 65, Cheticamp, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp.
Born in Cheticamp, he was a son of the late Simon D. and Rose (Chiasson) Bourgeois.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 33 years, serving in Chatham, N.B., France, Germany, Greenwood, N.S., Bagotville, Que. and Trenton, Ont.
He was the service officer and active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 32, Cheticamp.
He loved a good joke, fishing with his brother, tending to his garden and spending time with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Gemma Roach; one son, Eric Bourgeois, Lindsay, Ont.; one daughter, Gizelle (Mrs. Ron Chafe) and a precious granddaughter, Chantal Chafe, all of Sydney; two brothers, Simon Joe (Jeanne) Bourgeois, Petit Etang and Yvon (Denise), Moncton, N.B.; seven sisters, Marie Eva (Mrs. Henri Maillet), Luce Colombe LeBlanc, both of Petit Etang, Rosanna (Mrs. Ernest Poirier), Sadie Mae (Mrs. Joseph A. AuCoin), Leona (Mrs. Andrew AuCoin), Ethel (Mrs. Marcellin AuCoin), all of Cheticamp, and Yvonne (Mrs. Livain McLaughlin), Fredericton, N.B.
He was predeceased by one brother, Leo S. Bourgeois.
Visitation will take place at the Cheticamp Funeral Home, today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp with Fr. Anselm Chiasson officiating.
Interment in the parish cemetery.
