Reginald Keith MacLennan
74, Sydney Mines
Reginald Keith MacLennan, 74, a former resident of Half-way Road, Sydney Mines, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at the Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Alexander and Gladys (Roper) MacLennan.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines. In his younger years he served with the Royal Canadian Navy and was employed with Robin Hood Flour Mills and for many years with the British Canadian Co-op, Sydney Mines.
Surviving are his brothers, Gordon (Rita), Marion Bridge, Murray, Red Deer, Alta., Earle, White Rock, B.C., Al, Halifax and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother and sister in infancy.
No visitation. Cremation has taken place with a service to be held at a later date.
Arrangements under the direction of G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.

Hilda Boyde
88, Sydney Mines
Mrs. Hilda Boyde, 88, of 2 Devoe St., Sydney Mines, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney, after a brief illness.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Jane MacKay.
She was a member of Carman United Church, Sydney Mines.
She is survived by one son Louis (Mary), Sydney Mines, grandchildren, Natalie (George), Nadine (Samuel), Annette (Wayne), Dwayne (Tracey), and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Megan, Delana, Kyle, Mitchell and Rebecca.
She was predeceased by her husband Roderick, and two sisters, Pearl (Mrs. Ralph Cuzner) and Rene (Mrs. Dan MacKie).
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Carman United Church with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Burial under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home will be in Brookside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Katherine Conway
78, Sydney Mines
Katherine (Lyle) Conway, 78, of 2 Cherry St., Sydney Mines, and recently of Miners’ Memorial Manor, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Vickers) Lyle. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Bras d’Or.
Katherine is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Conway; her sons and daughters, Sandy (Ann), North Sydney, Betty (Joe) Jenkins, Bras d’Or, Arlene (Doug) Rideout, Sydney Mines, Herbie (Gale), Bridgewater, Mary (Sandy) MacInnis, Bras d’Or, Debbie (John) Paquet, Sydney Mines, Karen (John) Petite, Sydney Mines, Wayne, Dartmouth; her foster son, Joe Lynch, Ontario; daughter-in-law, Marguerite, Newfoundland. Also surviving are her brothers, Edgar, Sydney Mines, James, North Sydney, and David, Bras d’Or; her sisters, Casilda Beddow, Sydney Mines, Margie Donato and Sharon Heinrich, both of Halifax. Nanny will be lovingly remembered by 31 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, John; her brothers, Herbert, Gerald, and Alex; and her sister, Jenny Pickles.
Visitation today (Monday) from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. The funeral will take place Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or with Rev. Bedford Doucette officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Ronald F. (Rollie) Mullin
Sydney Mines
The family of Roland F. (Rollie) Mullin sadly announce his passing from God’s earthly world on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Harbor View Hospital Veterans Wing, Sydney Mines.
Born in Sussex, N.B., he was the son of the late Francis and Myrtle (Anderson) Mullin.
Rollie resided at Harbor View for the past 3 1/2 years and previously in Antigonish and Florence.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 52 years, Lorretta (Nugent), North Sydney; his two daughters, Deborah and her husband Robert White, Sydney, and Louise and her husband Robbie Beaton, Bras d’Or; his four sons, Brian and his wife Heather (Lawrence), Perth, Ont., Jack and his wife Jean (Deveaux), Bras d’Or, Paul and his wife Penni (LeBlanc) and Ronald and his girlfriend Tiffany Coffin, all of Antigonish; his grandchildren, the light in his eyes, Curtis, Rhonda, Sara and Miranda and his step-grandchildren, Meaghan and Brendon.
He is also survived by his sister, Mary McNeill, Apohaqui, N.B., and his brother, Wayne Miller, O’Leary, P.E.l. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law, Gladys Nugent, Florence; his sisters-in-law and their husbands and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Faith Coughlin and his brother, George.
A proud military man, he served overseas during the Second World War and at several postings in Canada. He was later employed at Quebec Cartier Mining, the Eastern Institute of Technology and until his retirement at St. Francis Xavier University.
Visitation today (Wednesday) 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. The funeral will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, Rev. A.D. Campbell officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Sarah Ann Vickers
96, Sydney Mines
Sarah Ann Vickers, 96, of 102 Crescent St., Sydney Mines, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Levina Bonnar.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Sydney Mines.
She is survived by her sons, Edgar (Margaret), Russell (Mary), both of Florence, and Devlin (Joan), Millville; daughters, Loretta Habicht, Florence, Jessie (Mrs. Louis MacKinnon), Pembrook, Ont., Jean (Mrs. Daniel Nicholson), Glace Bay, Willena (Mrs. Henry LeBlanc), Florence, Lorraine (Mrs. Dwight Finlayson) and Vivian (Mrs. Joe Cordeau), Sydney Mines, Mary (Mrs. Tom MacInnis), Georges River, and Ann (Mrs. Brian Ferguson), Charlottetown, P.E.I. She is also survived by her brothers, Alex and Jim, Sydney Mines; her sister, Louise Prince, Millville, 34 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her husband, William, grandson, Johnnie MacKinnon and her great-grandson, Brian Harris, her sister, Mary and her brothers, Daniel, Wendell and George.
Visitation Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. The funeral will take place Monday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

George Baillie Mulholland Jr.
83, Sydney Mines
George Baillie Mulholland Jr., 83, of Beech Street, Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Gracie) Mulholland.
He was a staunch member of the Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, assistant treasurer and a member of the board of directors. For over 50 years, he faithfully enjoyed singing tenor in the church choir. He served as treasurer of the Cape Breton United Baptist Association for 27 years and was a founding member of the Kiwanis Ceilidh Golden K Club of Sydney Mines.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Jean (Bernon); daughters, Heather (Bob) LeBlanc, Bridgetown, Peggy, Sydney; stepdaughters, Ruth (John) Thompson, Winnipeg, Sheila (Mick) Duggin, Sussex, England; daughter-in-law, Audrey, Sydney Mines; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Sadie (Jack) Baker, Edmonton; brothers, Robert, Vancouver, Charles and Andrew, Guelph; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Nina (Fraser), son, Graham, brother, John, sister, Jean and one brother in infancy.
Visitation will be in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, with Rev. Allison MacLean officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clyde Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of choice.
