Bruce Harris Redden

REDDEN, Bruce Harris - 84, Waverley, passed away peacefully March 21, 2003, in the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII, Halifax, with his family by his side. Born in Martock, 1918, he was the eldest son of the late Neil and Winnifred (Taylor) Redden.

Bruce moved to Waverley in 1962 where he lived with his family for 41 years and pursued a career in construction. He was president of B.H. Redden Construction Limited, and was recognized as a builder of quality homes in the metro area. In his earlier days he was an active outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, storytelling and camp cooking. He was an avid horseman and always a sure show at local exhibitions.

He was kind and loving in his many roles as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to all who knew him. Recently Bruce celebrated his 49th wedding anniversary with his loving and devoted wife Shirley.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Barker) Redden; daughter, Debbie, Bedford; sons, Stephen (Kellea) Redden, Bedford; David Redden (Charlotte Cooper), Fall River; grandchildren, Jennifer Boyd (Redden) and her husband Kevin, Stefanie, Courtney and Bradley Redden; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Nathan; brothers, Laurie (Carol) Redden, Piggott Lake; Clarie (Ruth) Redden, Falmouth; Reg (Dorothy) Redden, Piggott Lake; Bob (Pat) Redden, Three Mile Plains; Vernon Redden, Dykeland Lodge; sisters, Alice Wilson, Falmouth; Lois (Johnnie) Smith, Vaughans. Also survived by aunt, Teresa Ovens, Windsor; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Alba "Sam", Ernest, Milford, John, Gordon; sisters, Marjorie Brown and Mary Atwell.

He was a member of Bedford Baptist Church, former member of the Nova Scotia Home Builders Association, Windsor Baptist Church, and Bedford Lions Club.

A memorial church service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, in Bedford Baptist Church, Rev. Nelson Metcalfe and Rev. Dr. Ida Armstrong-Whitehouse officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. A private ceremony for the interment of ashes will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bedford Baptist Church Building Fund, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII, QEII Health Sciences Centre, 6th Floor Critical Care Unit or a charity of choice.

Dr. Alan T., M.D., F.R.C.P.S., Ph.D McDonald

McDONALD, Dr. Alan T., M.D., F.R.C.P.S., Ph.D. - 60, Halifax, passed away March 13, 2003, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Dr. J.A. McDonald and Monica (Campbell) McDonald.

Alan enjoyed classical music, the New York Time crossword puzzle, and the time he spent in the company of his friends. He was a graduate of McGill University (Class of 1963), Dalhousie Medical School (Class of 1968), and then went on to specialize in pathology.

He is survived by brother, Greg (Michele); nephew, Anthony; niece, Erin.

He was predeceased by brother, Paul; sister, Joan.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax.

Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII.

Wanda Beals

BEALS, Wanda - 41, North Preston, passed away March 17, 2003, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Opie (Grant) Beals and the late Albert Beals.

Wanda was a member of St. Thomas United Baptist Church, North Preston. She loved to knit and crochet and she always had a great love for children. Wanda was a former employee with ABC Cleaning, Provincial Foods, and Nova Scotia Hospital (laundry department).

Surviving are maternal grandparents, Harold and Evelyn Grant; brothers, Harold Jr., Calgary; Lloyd Albert, Truro; Terry, Dartmouth; George (Kathy), Calgary; Anthony, North Preston; sisters, Lola (Deacon Randy Downey), Laura Beals and Joan Beals, all of North Preston; godchildren, Tyson Downey, Cher Fraser, Alfonse and Alfred Simmonds, Jessica Beals, Alisha Smith, Shantia Simmonds, Perrydell Simmonds, Ashton Grant, Bernice Downey, Tyqwan Downey, Cody Grant. She will be sadly missed by uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by son, Jermaine Beals; paternal grandparents, George Beals and Bridgette Downey; great-grandparents, William and Mabel Grant.

Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, in St. Thomas United Baptist Church, North Preston, Rev. Wallace Smith officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch.

Clarence John Miller

MILLER, Clarence John - 53, Halifax, passed away March 17, 2003, at home. Born in St. John's, NL, he was a son of the late Obie and Lucy (Dicks) Miller.

He was employed for many years with Casino Taxi.

He is survived by his sisters, Jean Currie, Fairview; Pearl (James) Hewitt, Pickering, Ont.; brother, Claude (Marie) Miller, Halifax; four nieces and four nephews.

No visitation by request. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville.

Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.

Gertrude Anne Skinner

SKINNER, Gertrude Anne - 75, Parkstone Estates, Halifax, formerly of Lower Sackville, passed away March 18, 2003, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in North Rustico, P.E.I., she was the daughter of the late Redolph and Bertha (Doiron) Fleming.

She was employed with St. Vincent's Guest Home, Halifax, before retiring in 1990. Gertrude is survived by sons, Douglas (Heather), Lower Sackville; Walton "Bud" (Megan), North Rustico, P.E.I.; grandchildren, Ashley, Raymond, Jim, Karen, Leonard and Jennifer.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walton "Bud" Skinner; daughter, Judy Brown; grandson, Nicholas.

Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch.

Horace Witford Scott

SCOTT, Horace Witford "Scottie" - 78, East Dover, passed away March 16, 2003, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Scott's Point, East Dover, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Sadie (Zinck) Scott.

He retired in 1982, from the former D.C. Keddy Ltd. He loved hunting and fishing and was an avid duck hunter and loved to share these stories with all who came to visit.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Vivian (Ross); most loved daughter, Karen (Larry) Corney, Prospect Bay; beloved grandson, Darren Corney, Halifax; sisters, Vera (Mrs. John MacLeod), Halifax; Deliah, Bayside; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Rockwell, Woodrow, and Walter; sister, Ruby; several half-brothers and half-sisters.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, Rev. Gerald Zinck officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.

No flowers please. Donations in memory may be made to West Dover Baptist Church or Canadian Cancer Society.
