DOREY (Edmonds) Jane Ethel
61, Martin's Point, died March 5, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII, with her loving family at her side after losing her battle with cancer. Born in Chester, she was a daughter of the late Abraham J. and Myrtle J. (Mosher) Edmonds. Jannie was a very special and giving person. She was a great sister, special aunt, and loving wife to her husband, Max. She enjoyed knitting and baking. She enjoyed life even when she was very ill. Jane is survived by her loving husband, Max; special nephew, Scott A. Hupman, Hantsport; her brother, William (Dianne), Western Shore; sisters, Jean (Wayne) Turple, Martin's Point; and Laura Edmonds, Chester; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Jane was predeceased by her brother Cpl. Abraham L. Edmonds; grandparents, Harding and Blanche (Sawler) Mosher, William and Hannah (Jackman) Edmonds. There will be no visitation or service, per request. Interment will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Jane may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Western Shore Legion. Arrangements have been entrusted to Davis Funeral Home, Chester.
CROWELL (Cameron), Frances Caroline
Born in Sackville, N.B., in 1927, Frances was the daughter of the late Etta (Lowerison) Cameron and Alexander Roy Cameron. She attended Mount Allison's Secretarial College and worked for the Sackville Medical Centre and the Dalhousie Mental Health Clinic. For five years she taught the secretarial course at Shelburne Regional High School. In 1947 Frances married Bill Crowell and they lived in Sackville, Halifax, Shelburne, Tallahassee, Fla., and the Montreal area before moving back to the Maritimes where they lived in Port Maitland, and their beloved Lake Annis. She loved gardening, genealogy, travel and above all, her family, extending now to great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, William C. "Bill" Crowell; daughters, Christine (Art) Miles and Jane (Jean) Crowell-Bour; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) McCarthy; Kimberly (Michael) Whiting, Christophe Crowell-Bour and Patrick Crowell-Bour; great-grandchildren, Keefe and Elle McCarthy and Ethan and Lily Whiting. She was predeceased by brother, Thomas A. Cameron. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visiting hours will take place Saturday, March 7, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. from Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society are suggested. A committal service will be held at Lake Annis (Norwood) in the summer.
THIBODEAU, Félix Èlie
100, Church Point. Passed away peacefully in his sleep, with his loving daughter by his side, in Mountain Lea Lodge Nursing Home, Bridgetown, on March 4, 2009. Born in Church Point, he was the son of the late Denis and Joséphine (LeBlanc) Thibodeau; the dear father of Denis (Diane) Thibodeau, Souris, P.E.I.; Léo (Cathy) Thibodeau, Wellington; Calixte (Marcelle) Thibodeau, Metehgan; Céleste (John) Thibodeau-Stacey, Paradise; and the brother of Adolphe Thibodeau, Boston, Mass., and Èdith Thibodeau, Church Point. Papa, as he was called by his children, was very much a family and community person; going back to his early years with his involvement in the Boy Scout movement, his participation in the Credit Union System, and his participation with the Club Richelieu. Papa was a proud Acadian. His involvement with the rich history of his people culminated in many stories, a weekly article in the Petit Courrier, a book on Acadian vocabulary, a history of Saint Mary's Church in Church Point, a geography of his beloved Clare, and numerous lectures of our past to interested groups. After retiring from his teaching career, Papa, with his hobby of woodworking, produced some of the finest products under the name Menuiserie Felix. These crafts are so well made that they will be in use adorning book cases and bureau tops for years to come. His children and grandchildren had the pick of the best, which will be forever treasured. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Meagher; brothers, Joseph, Alphée, David, Camille Thibodeau; and sister, Cécile LeBlanc. Félix will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Roger, André (Heather), René (Rebecca), and Nadine (Alden) De Roche, and Marcel Thibodeau; Jacques and Zoé Stacey, and Angéline (Glen) Comeau. Also survived by great-grandchildren; Aiden, Emilie and Zachary Thibodeau; Jolie, Amie, and Benjamin Thibodeau, and Connor and Jay DeRoche. Funeral services to take place in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Church Point, on March 11 at 2 p.m.
PREEPER, Bruce Kendall
45, passed away tragically in Lantz, on March 7, 2009. Born in Halifax, he was a son the late Donald Isenor and Carolyn (Preeper) (Wilfred) MacLeod, Prince Edward Island. Bruce took pride in the fact that he worked for Elmsdale Lumber for the last 25 years. Bruce loved fishing, hunting and camping with Al. He was a First Lantz Beavers and Cub Leader. He belonged to the Lantz REC Society and the Golden Age Car Club, Truro. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Janice; son, Hunter K., at home; Iris and Joe Isenor, legal guardians for many years; brothers, Adam (Jane) Isenor and their sons, Brandon, Austin, and Trenton, Lantz; Joey (Joanne) Preeper, Belnan; sisters, Kelly (Derek Isenor) Preeper, Lantz; Christine, Tina (Howie), all of Prince Edward Island; brothers, Allan MacLeod, Gordon MacLeod, both of Prince Edward Island; mother-in- law and father-in-law, Rachel and Freeman Nieforth, Lantz; brothers-in-law, Marsden Nieforth, Shawn (Sue) Nieforth, all of Lantz; several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Main St., Shubenacadie, Rev. Canon David Fletcher officiating, assisted by Rev. Patty McKenna. Donations in memory of Bruce may be made to First Lantz Scouting. Anyone in Scouting, please wear your uniform.
ZWICKER, Grant Henry Esmond
59, Middlewood, Lunenburg Co., passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, at home with his wife by his side. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Merril and Kathleen Zwicker. Grant spent years as a fireman and was also chief of the Italy Cross Middlewood and District Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Betty (Langille); daughter, LaRita, Bridgewater; stepdaughter, Leslie, United States; a sister and brother, both of Middlewood; nephew, Andrew Zwicker and family; Kim (Zwicker) Ranger and family; aunts, Marion Corkum and Joyce Leary. His many friends who will miss his outspokenness and honesty as well as his many repeated stories of years gone by. He was predeceased by his nephew, Earl Zwicker whom he loved and missed so. Cremation has taken place under the direction of R. A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. As per Grant's wishes there will be no service or burial. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Italy Cross Middlewood and District Fire Department. Special thanks to Lisa Baker, Marilyn Johnson, Tim Rice and Danny Jayne who helped take care of Grant for the last year.
McKINNON, Angela Lesley
29, New Victoria, died Saturday, March 7, 2009. Daughter of Theodore Joseph and Valerie McKinnon. Surviving are daughters, Macey and Morgan; brothers, Pat, Wally, Wade, Theo, Wayne, Ricky; sisters, Debbie, Sherri, Stacey Wadden, Shyanne; grandfather, Wallace Tighe; grandmother, Regis McKinnon. Predeceased by grandmother, Joyce Tighe; grandfather, Theodore McKinnon; special grandmother, Angela Power. Visitation on Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Funeral mass 10 a.m. Thursday in Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church. Cremation will follow.
CROUSE, Rodney Gabriel
67, of Riverport, died Friday, March 6, 2009 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Lunenburg, he was the son of the late Capt. Amos and Marion (Lohnes) Crouse. Rodney went to sea fishing with his father at the age of 14, and then spent 23 years with Fisheries and Oceans working on the Chebucto, and then later as 2nd Engineer with the Cygnus, retiring in 1996. Rodney joined, in 1972, the Confidence Lodge of the I.O.O.F. No. 106, Riverport, and the Grand Encampment Belevedere Lodge No. 5, Windsor, in 1996, and held many positions in both lodges. He was a member for over 35 years of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 23, Lunenburg, and volunteered chair of the Poppy Fund, Riverport, and worked as secretary for Shepherd's Hill Cemetery, Riverport. A faithful member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rose Bay, Rodney served on the Board of Managers and Session of the church. A true friend to many, Rodney will be deeply missed. Rodney is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Nadine (Bruce Shephard), Lunenburg; son, Gary (Krista) Crouse, Riverport; grandchildren, Kelsey, Madison, Mackenzie and Sebastian; mother-in-law, Ann Mossman, Riverport; many aunts, uncles, and several cousins. Funeral service to celebrate Rodney's life will be held today at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rose Bay, Rev. Laurence Mawhinney officiating. Interment will be in Shepherd's Hill Cemetery, Riverport. ELLIS, Pauline Agnes
79, Plymouth, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Friday, March 6, 2009, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. She was born on May 19, 1929 in Wedgeport, a daughter of the late Edmund and Thérèse (LeBlanc) Doucet. Pauline worked in the commercial department at R. H. Davis & Co. Ltd., in Yarmouth, for 40 years. She will be remembered as being a very loving and charitable woman. Surviving are her husband, Ron G. Ellis; brothers, Siffroi Doucet, Nakile Home for Special Care, Argyle; Rodolphe (Charlotte) Doucet, Wedgeport; a sister, Madeline Surette, Wedgeport; nephews and nieces, Simone (Earl) Muise, Thomas (Gisèle) Doucet, Louise-Anne Doucet, Philippe Doucet, Michel (Susan) Doucet, Reginald (Annette) Doucet, Gilles Doucet, Pierre (Lisa) Doucet, Paul Doucet, Jeanine (Ron) Harrigan, Dianne (Steve) Murray, Neil Doucet, Denise (Alfred) Harding, Yvette (Philip) Wingate, Gerard (Marilyn) Doucet, and Ronald (Linda) Doucet. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Eddie Doucet; sisters, Yvonne Pothier and Esther Doucet; nephew, Neil Doucet, in infancy. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and again from 7-9 p.m. today, with prayers at 8 p.m., both in H. M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 10, from Saint Michael's Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Father Wieslaw Papuga officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. It has been requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Tri-County Branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses, Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery, or to a charity of one's choice.
LEWIS, Evelyn Mae
65, Chebogue Road, Sand Beach, Yarmouth Co., died on March 6, 2009. Born in Yarmouth, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Mary Marguerite (Rogers) Hayes. She was a Salvation Army Thrift Store volunteer and an Avon sales representative in the early 1980s. Mrs. Lewis volunteered with Yarmouth Sailorettes for almost 20 years before retiring because of her health. She is survived by daughter, Crystle (Jason) George; son, Brian (Genevive) Lewis; brother, Melvin (Marion) Hayes, of Summerville; grandchildren, Cameron and Madison George, and Skye and Boston Lewis. She was predeceased by her husband, Brian; brother, Ronald (Humphrey). The body is resting in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visiting hours will were held on Sunday. Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9, at 2 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. A.D. Bill Newell and Major Peter Rowe officiating. Spring burial in the Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Donations in Evelyn's memory can be made to the IWK Health Centre Foundation, or the Memorial Club.
DeCOSTE, Martha Marguerite
93, of Antigonish, formerly of Linwood. It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Martha Marguerite DeCoste on Friday, March 6, 2009, in R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, with her family by her side. Born in Linwood, Antigonish Co., she was a daughter of the late John and Evangeline (LeVangie) DeLorey. Martha lived in Linwood until September 1987, when she moved to Antigonish. In November 2001, she moved to the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home. She had the most beautiful smile for everyone. She loved her family very much and her strength and deep religious beliefs carried her through the years. Following the death of her husband, William in 1956, she brought up 15 children and one special granddaughter. She loved to play cards and bingo, enjoyed shopping and was always ready to travel. She is survived by her daughters, Anna Davidson, Afton; Mona Christie (Billie), Heatherton; Linda Cann (Ronn), Port Maitland; Marlene MacIsaac (Carroll), Linwood; Wilma Bottomley (Herb), Sackville; Bena, Antigonish; sons, Raymond (Dot), Herman (Joyce), Nobbie (Donna), all of Hamilton, Ont.; Clayton, Edmonton, Alta.; sisters, Rita Carr, Marjorie Carr, both of Linwood; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William; daughters, Tina, Doris, Robina; and sons, Harold, Seward, and Lennie; sons-in-law, Mark Davidson and James Fraser and daughter- in-law, Betty Murphy; sisters, Hattie, Ella, Mary, and Lena; brothers, Francis, William, Herbert, Lawrence, Angus, and John. Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish, on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Peter's Church, Tracadie, on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Family flowers only please.
