Evelyn Jean Parsons

PARSONS, Evelyn Jean - 71, Middle Sackville, passed away peacefully July 12, 200, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Gladys Gray.

Evelyn was a school teacher for many years in Cherry Brook, Middle Sackville and Lucasville. She was actively involved in the Lucasville United Baptist Church, serving on many boards of the church, was president of the Ladies Auxiliary, sang in the choir and served as church clerk.

Surviving are her husband, Deacon Ralph Parsons; daughter, Wendy Lee, Lower Sackville; son. Kevin (Tina), Lower Sackville; brother, Herman Peterson; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Glenda White.

Visitation will be in Atlantic Funeral Home, Lower Sackville, today and Monday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday July 16, in Lucasville United Baptist Church, Rev. Stewart Williams officiating, assisted by Rev. Dr. D.E. Fairfax. Interment in Lucasville United Baptist Church Cemetery.

Hickman Munden

MUNDEN, Hickman - Halifax, died July 12, 2002, surrounded by his family in the VG Site, QEII, on his 64 birthday. Born in Isle-aux-Morte, Nfld., he was a son of Julian (Currie), Port-aux-Basques, and the late Benjamin Munden.

He served 25 years in the Navy of the Canadian Armed Forces. He retired as Chief Petty Officer. He was also employed with Litton Systems and Verstile Vickers and served as Commissionaire. He was an active member of Windsor Park, Chief and PO's mess, and the Royal Canadian Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Ada; son, Tony (Pat), Burlington, Ont.; daughters, Judy, Halifax; Roberta, Toronto; brothers, Ernie, Halifax; Will, Port-aux-Basques, Ben Jr., Burlington; Lorne, Sackville; Barry, Vancouver; Rick, Port-aux-Basques; sisters, Roberta, British Columbia; Diane, Port-aux-Basques; dearest granddaughters, Sara and Alexandra; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m., in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayer's Rd., Halifax. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. in CFB Stadacona Chapel, Halifax. Rev. Arthur Cuzner officiating. Burial will take place in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Sackville.

Donations in memory to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, or Canadian Liver Foundation, Halifax Chapter.

Murray Raymond Hubley

HUBLEY, Murray Raymond - 72, Enfield, Hants Co., formerly of Bedford, passed away July 12, 2002, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Ernest and Alena (Zwicker) Hubley.

He was employed for over 20 years with Ports Canada Police, Halifax. For some time after retirement, he enjoyed his days as a printer in his small family owned shop. In earlier years, many fond memories were made with family and friends in the garage at Four Gables, Beaver Bank. To many in the CB Clubs he will always be remembered as the "Big M". He was an avid musician and sports fan. He particularly enjoyed early morning coaching with Bedford Minor Hockey. An avid boater and fisherman, his summers were spent with the family and friends at the cottage in Glen Haven. He will be deeply missed by all he has touched throughout his many years.

A devoted family man, every moment with his family was cherished. He will be deeply missed by his grandson, Taryn, his pride and joy. Sunday drives with Marie and his canine companion, Brandy, were special times.

He is survived by his wife, the former Marie Lively; sons, Brian (Janet), Elmsdale; Todd (Jennifer), Milford; brothers, Con, Dartmouth; John (Rosaleen), Halifax; sister, Joyce (Leo) Elliott, Halifax; grandson, Taryn; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, with funeral service 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, Rev. James Haughn officiating. Interment will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Reception to follow in the funeral home.

Donations in Murray's memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses Palliative Care, 207 Willow St., Truro, NS B2N 5A1 or Enfield Fire Department, Box 114, Enfield, NS B2T 1C9.

Eva Frances Benton

BRENTON, Eva Frances "Eve" - Dartmouth, passed away July 9, 2002, in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Port Wallace, she was a daughter of the late Henry A. and Elizabeth F. (Courtney) Brenton.

Eva was a world traveler. Although she spent most of her life on Lake Charles, she had also lived and worked in Toronto, Boston and London, England. Eva had a strong love and respect for the Monarchy and the Royal Family. Self-reliant, she often traveled abroad alone, a rarity for a young lady at that time. She attended NSCAD on a scholarship and was a true artist, mastering such mediums as oil painting, sculpture, wood carving, ceramics and china painting. She especially enjoyed painting the places that she saw in her travels. She had a strong love for animals and had several pets of her own.

Eva will be dearly missed by niece, Sue Moxon and several other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Marguerite Brenton, Gertrude Moxon, Hilda McLeod; brothers, John, Harry.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth.

Gerald S. Turbide

TURBIDE, Gerald S. - 62, Halifax, died July 7, 2002, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Havre-aux-Maisons, Iles de la Madeleine, Que., he was a son of Octave and the late Eugenie (Arseneau) Turbide.

He was a wonderful husband of 38 years and caring father who was deeply loved by his family.

He is survived by his wife, the former Louise Leger; daughter, Liane, Lockhartville; sons, Denis (Andree), Hull, Que.; Alain (Janet), Halifax; brothers, Roger, Bonsecours, Que.; Andre, Concessions; Jean-Guy, Francois, Jean-Luc, all of Havre-aux-Maisons, Que.; Michel and Rejean, both of Montreal; Denis, Chicoutimi, Que.; sisters, Irene, Havre-aux-Maisons, Que.; Rachel, Waterloo, Ont.; Lucie and Jeanne, both of Montreal; Jacinthe, Moncton, N.B.

He was predeceased by sister, Helene; brother, Serge.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Homes Ltd., Halifax. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, in St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Halifax, Father Duncan MacMaster officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII or Canadian Cancer Society.

Robert Roy Bower

BOWER, Robert Roy - 90, Northwood Centre, Halifax, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 27, 2002, at the centre. Born August 22, 1911, in Windsor, he was a son of the late Charles and Emily (Bower) Bower.

Robert was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He and his father owned and operated Eastern Cycle and Motor for many years and he then went on to work at Scotia Tire until he retired 30 years ago.

He is survived by his children, Shirley, Gerald, Charles, Paul, Timothy, Judy; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by daughter, Sonia Lynn.

Cremation has taken place. Graveside funeral service for Robert and his wife, Winnifred will be held 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, in Oakridge Memory Gardens, 1078 Old Sackville Rd., Lower Sackville, Rev. Arthur Snow officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax.

Russel Cameron Melanson

MELANSON, Russel Cameron - 79, Broad Cove, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 4, 2002, in South Shore Regional Hospital.

Born in Mill Village, he was retired from the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, where he was Atlantic Regional Hydrographer for the Canadian Hydrographic Service. He served in the Second World War as a member of the First Canadian Parachute Battalion, and was a past vice president of the First Canadian Parachute Battalion Association. Russel was a son of the late Alexander and Cassie (Boland) Melanson.

He is survived by daughter, Laurie (David) Ewer, Sackville; sons, Russel C. Jr. (Sandra), Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Garron (Gay), Bible Hill; Ronald (Tina Newcombe), Upper Tantallon; brothers, Rod (Estelle), Mill Village; Rex (Muriel), Bridgewater; Royce (Shirley), Liverpool; seven grandchildren.

Russel was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Hall), to whom he was happily married for 53 years; infant son, Stanley Alexander; sisters, Sandra, Muriel, Madge, Merlene; brother, Robert. Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 9, at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, Rev. James Haughn officiating. Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery, 3950 Kempt Rd., Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
