Jerimah "Jerry" J Rissesco
1931-2010
RISSESCO, Jerimah Joseph "Jerry" — 78, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away on February 28, 2010, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born August 28, 1931, in Parrsboro, he was the son of the late Thomas Anthony "Tony" and Margaret (Duggan) Rissesco.
He was a strong family man who enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, his children and grandchildren. Jerry enjoyed travelling and gardening. He was an amazing father and grandfather and many special memories were made on road trips throughout Canada and during family gatherings. Jerry, a graduate of the Nova Scotia Normal College, taught public school for over 30 years in Saskatchewan, Alberta and in Nova Scotia in Cumberland, Colchester, Kings, Shelburne Counties, as well as Halifax County (Harrietsfield Elementary School, Herring Cove Junior High School and Gertrude Parker Elementary School). He was recognized for excellence in teaching in remedial reading while teaching in Herring Cove. Jerry served as a local President of the Nova Scotia Teachers' Union in Halifax County. He was active in scouting, serving as a cub leader in Spryfield. After retiring from teaching, Jerry worked as an instructor at the Windsor Workshop. He enjoyed making a difference as an educator and working both with youth and adult learners.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ida Mae (Vaughan) and children, Darlene Anne (Mathew) Nuqingaq, Iqaluit, Nunavut; Angela Marie (Robert) Brooks, Winnipeg, Man.; Jeffrey Joseph (Leah), Lower Vaughans; Dale Anthony (Ani Tudisco), Timothy Wayne (Genevieve Harvey), both of Dartmouth; and Brian Wade (Carrie), Mill Section; grandchildren, Katrina and Brittany Brooks, Tuqqaasi and Jerimah Nuqingaq, James Rissesco, Owen and Neil Rissesco, Daniel Rissesco, Laura Rissesco, Gideon Nookiquak,and Ashley Hysert; also brother, Thomas (Marianne) Rissesco, Dartmouth; sister, Mary Smith, and sister-in-law, Ethel (Jake) Van Gogh. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Eleanor Rushton, Annie DesBrisay and Veronica "Bonnie" Wamboldt.

Glendon R. "Glen" Kynock
1938-2010
KYNOCK, Glendon Russell "Glen" — 71, Three Mile Plains, Hants Co., passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Canning, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Ralph and Lillian (Spinney) Kynock.
Glen was a former member of the RCAF. He was former owner of Tandem Fuels Ltd. and Lee's Taxi. A Diesel Mechanic and Safety Inspector, Glen worked for Forbes Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Dartmouth. In 1976, Glen went on to own and operate Kynock Auto Repair, working first with sons, Martin and Eugene (now known as Kynock's Auto and Small Engine Repair, Three Mile Plains). He was a friend of Bill W. for 30 years, enjoyed gardening and traveling overseas as well as throughout Canada.
Glen is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, the former Dolores A. Hatfield; daughter, Debra (John) Legge, Mount Uniacke; sons, Martin (Irma), Windsor; Eugene (Deanna), Three Mile Plains; Randy (Kelley), Mantua; sister, Margaret (Larry) Ball, Orillia, Ont.; grandchildren, Kristin (Ben) and Karin (Charles) Kynock, Calgary; Kevin Kynock, Windsor; Wayne and Caitlin Kynock, Mantua; Payton Legge, Mount Uniacke; step-grandson, Josh Seaboyer, Three Mile Plains; and great-granddaughter, Karissa Kynock; also several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Glen was predeceased by infant daughter, Margaret Marlene (Vancouver, B.C.); brother, Frederick, and sister, Judith.

Gordon C. Knowles
1917-2010
KNOWLES, Gordon Clifford — 93 "Dad, Gramp, Grampie, Uncle Gordie and GG", of Avondale, Hants Co., passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on March 16, 2010, in Hants Community Hospital. Born in Avondale, Gordon was a son of the late Clifford Henry and Elsie Myrtle (Withrow) Knowles. Gordon is survived by daughter, Margy Lynn Fletcher; son, Michael Austen Lowe Knowles (Ann Knowles); sister, Ethel McInnis; grandchildren, Jackie, Larry (Jody), Tammie, Raeanne, Calvin (Marlaina), Daniel (Samantha), Keri (Simon), Jess (Rob), Andy (Alisha), and Katie (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Adam, Charlotte, (two more expected soon); sisters-in-law, Molly Austen and Libbie Knowles, and son-in-law Gordon Bezanson. Gordon was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Ethel Ruth Knowles (Austen); daughter, Judie Ruth Bezanson; brother, David William Knowles, and grand-daughter Becky Lynn Fletcher. Until the end of his life, Gordon was active at home and in his community, continuing to do his own driving, shopping and wood splitting. Gordon was an avid gardener and it seemed he could grow anything with ease. Everyone, especially the grandchildren, enjoyed his homemade pickles. Gramp had immense patience, grace, wit, modesty and inner strength which was admired by all who knew him. Gordon grew up in depression times and knew the meaning and value of a day's hard work and how to make the most of all God's gifts. Gordon was a veteran of the Second World War having served with the 1st Canadian Army, 3rd Anti Tank Regiment, 94th Battery, in England, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany. While in Holland during the war, Gordon met and became fast friends with the Vissers family of Stewiacke, 40 years later they were reunited on Canadian soil and the friendship has continued. Cremation has taken place and a Legion Service will be held at 6:45 p.m. followed by visitation from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 18 in Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 20 at 2 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Avondale, Rev. J. M. Small officiating, followed by a reception in the Poplar Grove Hall. A private family burial will take place in Newport Landing Cemetery, Avondale. Family flowers only. Grace Margaret Reese
1918-2010
REESE, Grace Margaret — 91, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born March 11, 1918 in Stanley, she was a daughter of the late Milton and Leonora (Sanford) Reese.
Grace worked for the Anglican church in the Yukon for 20 years, and as a nurse at the Nova Scotia Hospital. She was also a parishioner at Christ Church Anglican, Windsor. Grace is survived by a daughter, Harriet (Stanley) Ottie, Surrey B.C. She was predeceased by brothers, Sylvester and Albert; sisters, Bessie Coldwell and Ervette Hamilton.

COFFILL, Curtis Maxwell — 91, Three Mile Plains, Hants Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2010, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Hortonville, Kings Co., he was the last surviving child of the late Horace and Laura (Marshall) Coffill.
Curtis was a loving father and grandfather. He was an adherent of Windsor United Church and a founding member of the Three Mile Plains Community Hall. Curtis was also a successful business owner, having owned and operated Curtis Coffill Construction for many years.
He is survived by his sons, Keith (Carolyn MacDonald), Martock; Paul (Barb Rockwell), Three Mile Plains; Francis (Donna Card), Three Mile Plains; daughters, Nellie (Boyd) Caldwell, Three Mile Plains; Faye (Don) MacRitchie, Fredericton; Tanya (David) Morrison, Edmonton; Krista (James) Doucette, Sackville; Tina (Peter) Landzaat, Falmouth; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. Curtis was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Helena E. (MacDonald) Coffill (2004); grandson, Robert "Robbie" MacRitchie (2006); brothers, Ralph, John, Albert, Walter, Vernon, Cyril, Warren and Lorne; sisters, Nellie Harvey and Aileen in infancy.

ATWELL, Shirley Leah - 57, of Hantsport, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born on May 17, 1952, she was a daughter of Sydney Cochrane (Eleanor Cochrane) and the late Almira (Thurrott), who passed away shortly after giving birth to Shirley.
Shirley had a heart of gold and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and bake for everyone as well as reading and shopping at the dollar store. Shirley also had a great love for her cat, Baby, her dog, Whiskey and her many camping trips to Boutilier's Glen Campgrounds.
She is survived by her loving husband, James "Jim" "Papa" Atwell; sons, Charles and Derek; daughter, Tara Atwell (Ken MacAskill); grandchildren, Daniel, Michelle, Troy, Katelyn, Sarah, Leah, Chelsey and Jessica; brother, Ronald Cochrane; sisters, Marilyn Blunden, Darlene Cochrane and Sharon Cochrane; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; best friends, Shirley (Jim) Morine and Phyllis Eldridge. Besides her mother, Shirley was predeceased by an infant son, Michael.

MARSH, Emma Gertrude - 87, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 in Haliburton Place, Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Five Islands, Colchester Co., she was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Alice G. (McLellan) Taylor. Emma raised foster children for over 30 years, was a member of Ste. Croix United Church and enjoyed sewing and knitting. She is survived by her son, Gerald “Stuart” (Sheila) Marsh and daughter, Mildred (Dale) Barkhouse, all of Ellershouse; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Charlie Taylor, New Minas; and sister, Verna Atwell, White Rock. Besides her parents, Emma was predeceased by her husband Gerald Reid Marsh (1984); sister, Ella Taylor, brothers, Victor, Lawrence, Emmery, Wilfred and great-grandson, Evan Pitts. Myron worked on David Frank's farm in Wentworth and at Newcombe's bottle exchange and other odd jobs. McLELLAN, Margaret Eleanor — 88, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Margaret was born June 24, 1921, and was a daughter of the late Rees and Bessie Jones. She is survived by daughter, Catherine (Richard) Neily, Falmouth; and their children, Joel Neily, Mount Denson and Lacey Neily, Calgary, Alta; daughter, Charlene Harris (John Dimock), Belmont; and her children, Bryanne Harris, Halifax; and Ashley Harris, at home; son, Dieter McLellan, Falmouth; brother, Edward Jones, Orillia, Ont.; also many nieces and nephews and special friend, Ben Swinamer, Windsor. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles F. McLellan; sister, Elsie Rummerfield and brother, David Jones. Kenneth C. "Ken" Stephens

STEPHENS, Kenneth Colin "Ken"- 80, of Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor on April 29, 2010. Born in Tenecape on July 22, 1929, he was a son of the late Colin and Mabel (Tomlinson) Stephens. His early career involved working in his father's businesses in Tenecape. He later joined his father at Stephens & Yeaton Ltd., eventually taking ownership and developing it into a thriving business. It was his "pride and joy." He retired in 1986. Since his retirement, Ken enjoyed spending his time driving with his senior buddies. He particularly enjoyed his frequent visits to Ken's, Loran's and Lawrence's. His close friends will miss the opportunities to listen to his many stories of his life's adventures. Even his last days in the hospital were spent asking his many nurses - "what do you drive?" Ken is survived by his extended family, companion, Lena "Susan" Wile, Windsor; her family, Peggy, Avonport; Michael (Harriett), Upper Vaughan; Shirley, Windsor; Jim (Michelle), Lower Vaughan; Bill, Fort MacMurrray, Alberta; brother, Eric (Karen), Windsor; sister, Helene (Ken) Smith, Windsor; sister-in-law, Ruth Mulhall, Hantsport; and favourite cousins, Keith and Ronnie. Besides his parents, Kenneth was predeceased by brothers, Allistair and Blair. AVERY, Audrey Patricia - 87, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 6, 2010, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born on May 21, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Florence (Myatt) Horne.
Audrey is survived by her daughter, Sharon Boegel (Eric); son, Garnet (Ploy) Avery; grandchildren, Steven (Nadine) Boegel, Gary (Carrie) Boegel, Ryder Gregg and Yui; great-grandchildren, Avery, Natassia, Talia; sister, Genevieve Snider; many nieces and nephews. Audrey was predeceased by her husband, Abraham Avery; daughter, Janet Louise Avery; granddaughter, Tracey Lyn Boegel; sisters; Laura Dolan, Viola McCarron and Marg Monroe; brothers, Clarie and Harry Horne.
