Erma Estabrooks
1926-2013
It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Erma Estabrooks, age 86, of Amherst. Erma passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Chignecto Mines, she was a daughter of the late James and Minnie (Vance) Delahunt.
Erma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who devoted her life to her family. She was a member of Immanuel United Church and a life long Pythian Sister.
She will be dearly missed by her sons Raymond, Port Howe, NS and Rick (Helen), Brookdale, NS; grandson Chad Lowther, Amherst; granddaughter-in-law April Lowther, Amherst; great granddaughter Emma-Lee Lowther; sisters Susie (Jerry) MacDonald, New Lowell, ON and Irene "Jum" Morrison, Amherst; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond, an Infant Son; brothers Vance "Dudge" and James "Jiggs"; sister Elsie Stanley.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Pythian Sisters will hold a memorial service at 7 pm at the funeral home. The funeral service will be from the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 2 pm. Burial will take place in the Maccan Cemetery in the spring.

Arnold Cox
1924-2013
Arnold Cox, 88, of Amherst passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Cecil S. and Myrtle Cox.
Arnold and his wife Margaret Mary (Burton) celebrated 70 years of marriage on December 3, 2012. He was employed at the River Hebert Co Op for 36 years where he was Manager for many years.
Besides his wife the former Margaret Mary (Burton), Amherst, he is survived by son David (Wendy) Cox, Riverview, NB; granddaughter Sarah (Julian) Watson; great granddaughter Miranda Watson; and sister, Joyce McCallum, Springhill.
He was predeceased by brother Doug.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Friday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11 am at Christ Church, Rev. Charlotte Ross officiating. Burial will take place in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill in the spring.
Derrald Omar Boss
1924-2013
Derrald Omar Boss, 88 years of age, of Amherst, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013 with his loving family by his side. Born in Nappan, he was a son of the late Guy & Sarah (Simpson) Boss.
Derrald worked as a Vaporator Operator at the Sifto Salt Plant. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at the cottage.
Derrald will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Theresa Burke; son, Roger ( Elizabeth) of Fenwick; daughter, Anne Boss of Amherst; sisters, Phyllis Lewis (Lee) of Alberton, PEI, Muriel Dares (Jim) of Halifax; brothers, Ormond (Audrey) of Amherst, Ronald (Linda) of Nappan; grandchildren, Larry (Amanada) Lisa, Craig (Heather); great grandchildren Parker, Trystan, Ahrianna, several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister Alma Parlee; brothers Milton, Cedric, Oral.
Arrangements are under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St. Amherst, NS (667-8777) . The family will receive visitors at the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday, February 20 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the C.R.H.C.C. Palliative Care Unit or the V.O.N.
Hazel E. Murphy
1923-2013
Hazel Murphy, age 89 of Joggins, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Ellen (Grant) Henwood.
Hazel was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Joggins, as well as the Joggins Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid rummy player and enjoyed bingo. Family was very important to Hazel and she enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters; Joan (Murray) Melanson of Lakeville, NB and Evelyn (Wayne) Patterson of Joggins; sons James of Joggins, Todd (Jeanette) of Joggins, Gary of Joggins, and Doug of Sudbury, ON; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; brothers, Bernard (Marilyn) Grant of River Hebert, and George (Linda) Grant of River Hebert; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eldon Murphy; sisters Annie and Edith, and brothers, Gordon and Alfred.
Arrangements have entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, River Herbert (902-667-8777). Family and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 11 am from the Joggins United Church. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Hazel may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lung Association.
Gloria Burke
1943-2013
The death of Gloria Paulette Burke, 69, of Joggins occurred suddenly on Monday, February 25, 2013. Gloria was a daughter of the late Harold and Eva (Murphy) Foster of Joggins.
Gloria enjoyed cooking, traveling, and playing bingo. She loved her dog, Princess. She was very devoted to her family and looked forward to her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Susan (Michael) Edwards, of Joggins; granddaughters, Sabrina (Craig) Legere, of Amherst and Stacey Edwards of Joggins; great grandchildren, Kassidy Edwards, Hayden Edwards, and Alexander Legere; three sisters, Marilyn (Bernard) Grant, Patsy (late Bernie) Brine and Emma (Harold) Gates; three brothers, Harold (Linda) Foster, Kenny Foster, and Travis Foster; stepsons, Mark, Greg, and Jason Skidmore as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur Burke in 1987, her second husband, Thornton "Sonny" Skidmore in 2010 and a grandson Scottie Edwards in 1992.
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777) from where visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel at 2 pm on Wednesday, February 27. Gloria will be interred in the Ragged Reef Cemetery in the Spring.
Donations in memory of Gloria may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Byltje "Bally" McKnight
1921-2013
Byltje "Bally" McKnight, 91 years of age, of Harrisville, NB, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in the Netherlands she was a daughter of the late Johannes & Byltje (Laroy) Meppelder.
Bally was a very crafty lady. She enjoyed painting, knitting, crocheting, quilting. She taught painting classes in the Moncton Senior Citizens Centre many years ago. Bally was a past member of the Moncton Arts Society, the Champlain Place walking club, Seniors Bowling League. She was very proud of her trophy for being the first woman to swim 50 miles at the Moncton YMCA.
Bally loved her garden and had a very green thumb. Her door was always open for anyone to stop by for a cup of fresh coffee and a homemade doughnut.
Bally will be sadly missed by her daughter, Donna Legere (Alan) of Nappan; sons, John (Marion) of Marathon, ON, Don (Joyce) of Moncton, NB, Frank (Rose) of Crossfield, AB; seven grandchildren, five step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, six step- great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald of 60 years; sister; Fenna; brothers, Pieter, Arent, Geert, Harm, Johannes.
Cremation has take place under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St. Amherst, N.S. No visitation or service by request.

Todd R. Greeno
1967-2010
The death of Todd Greeno, age 42, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, January 14, 2010.
Born in Montreal, he was a son of the late Carol Greeno.
A man who took pride in his work, Todd worked at Bella's Cafe after a career as Taxi driver with D & J Taxi, Amherst for over 20 years. His 2 loves in life were his sons and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Todd will be sadly missed by his sons, Brandon, Tyler and Randy; twin brother, Terry; sisters, Connie and Tammy; half-brothers Larry and Douglas Ogden; half-sisters, Joanne, Peggy, Raylene, Charlene and Colleen. He was predeceased by a half-brother Leon.
Todd's remains have been cremated under the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777) from where a memorial service will be held Monday, January 18, 2010 at 2 pm, Rev. Philip Read officiating. Burial in the Lorneville Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society gratefully appreciated.
Lorne "Rab" Wolfe
1931-2010
Lorne "Rab" Wolfe, 78, of Joggins, passed away peacefully at Gable's Lodge on Monday, January 11, 2010, while surrounded by his family.
Born in River Hebert, he was a son of the late Garvin and Helen (Betts) Wolfe.
Rab was a fireman with the Joggins Fire Department for 45 years. He was an active member in the Chignecto Trails Club, and was an avid snowmobiler and four-wheeler. He loved his truck and took great pride in keeping it in excellent condition. He enjoyed camping. He enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great granddaughter.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Laura (Lorette), Amherst, sons, Bill (Melanie), Amherst, and Wade (Debbie), Chignecto; daughter Cece (Anson) Weatherbee, Amherst; 8 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; sisters, Eva MacIntosh and Joan MacDonald, both of Cape Breton. He was predeceased by son Ricky, infant brother Stewart.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 2 pm, Rev. Glenn Eason officiating. Cremation will take place following the funeral and the ashes will be interred in the River Hebert Cemetery in the spring.
