Mrs. Annie E. Harvie
1917-2009
Annie Elizabeth Harvie - 92, of Kentville, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Medford, Kings County, she was the eldest daughter of the late Allen Lewis Carey and Jennie Catherine (Fancy) Carey. She was a longstanding member of Bethany Memorial Baptist Church, Aldershot and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville, where she served as president for nine terms and was the first woman to receive the Palm Leaf Meritorious Service Award. Her first love was her family. Her hobbies included knitting, gardening and bowling. She had been employed with Muttart’s Limited for 27 years. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Lalone, Waterford, Ontario; Gloria (Ken) Wood, Church Street, Port Williams; a devoted grandson, Bruce Wood; two sisters, Beulah Surette, New Minas and Phyllis Butler, Kentville; seven other grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be missed by her two budgie pals, Buddy and Pettie. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell; a son, Russell Jr.; two grandsons, one granddaughter, two sisters, Julia and Gloria. The daughters would like to thank Pastor Thelma McLeod and her husband, John for their love and devotion shown to our mother. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, October 4, 2009 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2009 in Bethany Memorial Baptist Church, Aldershot, Reverend Thelma McLeod officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. No flowers please, by Annie’s request. Donations in memory may be made to Bethany Memorial Baptist Church or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

Mr. Ivan R. Coldwell
1917-2009
Ivan Raymond Coldwell … 92, of Melanson, Kings County, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Melanson, he was a son of the late Aubrey and Ada (Webb) Coldwell. He had been employed with the Melanson Fruit Company, Forsythe Construction and the Grand Pré National Park, from where he retired in 1982. He had a great love for the outdoors, his woodlot and hunting. He was a member of the Wallbrook Baptist Church, and had been a former member of the church and men’s choir. Ivan was also a member of the Silver and Gold Senior’s Club, Wolfville. He is survived by a daughter, Ellen (Reg) Lenihan, New Minas; their children, Karen, Kimberley and Allen; three sons, Dale (Lynda), Melanson Mountain; their children, Darrell, Cheryl, Kim and Denise; Kenny (Margie), Melanson; their children, Lorri Ann and Tracy; Kevin (Phyllis), Melanson Mountain; their children, Corey and Crystal; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife the former, Jennie Jordan; two sisters, Pansy and Lily. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2009 in the Gaspereau Baptist Church, Reverend Mark Shaw officiating. Burial will take place in the Gaspereau Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Melanson Community Hall. Donations in memory may be made to the Wallbrook Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

Mrs. Helen Margaret Doyle
1912-2009
Helen Margaret Doyle - 97, of Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 in the home. Born in South Alton, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Jennie (Quigley) Doyle. She attended school in South Alton, then graduated from Mack Business College and was employed with the Bank of Nova Scotia, Kentville. In 1960, she married Leonard Doyle and moved to the United States, living in Waltham and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She returned to Nova Scotia in 1999 to be close to family. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville and had been active with the Catholic Women’s League. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Rose Doyle, South Alton; a niece, Margaret (Tony) vanKippersluis, South Alton; three nephews, Brian (Debbie), Frank and Terry (Teresa), all of South Alton; 11 great nieces and nephews, Martin vanKippersluis, Karena vanKippersluis (Bungay), Deanna Doyle, Krista Doyle, Ryan Doyle, Rebecca Cherry, Melissa Gillis, David Doyle, Nadine Doyle, Emily Seaboyer and Brennan Doyle; four great great nieces and nephews, Andrew, Annika, Logan and Vanessa. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard; a sister, Rita Carter; three brothers, James, Laurence and Raymond “Pat”. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2009 with prayers to be held at 8:00 p.m., both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2009 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Father Craig Christenson officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

Mrs. Ann Louise Longley
1946-2009
Ann Louise Longley - 63, of Kentville, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of William Horton, DVA Unit, Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton, formerly of Kentville and the late Adell (Parkman) Horton. A very humble person, Ann’s philosophy was doing the right thing and encouraging others to do the same. She always put her family and grandchildren first and enjoyed spending time with her family at the cottage at Aylesford Lake. She graduated from Kings County Academy and Mack Business College and was then employed with the Municipality of Kings for over 44 years, where she presently held the position of Municipal Clerk. She was Executive Director of the Fire Services Association of Nova Scotia. Throughout her career, Ann received various awards. She is survived by her husband, Paul; a daughter, Sherri and a son, Scott (Ailie), both of Kentville; two brothers, Eric (Nancy), Fall River; Ken (Barbara), Mount Uniacke; two granddaughters, Brittany and Kourtnie; a grandson, Timothy; nieces and nephews. In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Emily Jean Longley. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2009 in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiating. A private family burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Following the burial, the family will join friends and relatives at a reception to be held in the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the QEII Health Sciences Centre - Burn Unit or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

Reverend Robert Byron "Bob" Billings
1939-2009
Reverend Robert Byron “Bob” Billings - of New Minas, Kings County, passed away Friday, October 23, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late William and Bessie (Willis) Billings. Bob served for many years as a Baptist Pastor in Massachusetts, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. In addition, Bob enjoyed a number of years as a broadcaster with Annapolis Valley Radio. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Bingham); a daughter, Kristen, New Minas; two sisters, Mary Lou (Merle) Sawler and Suzanne Billings, both of Fredericton. At Bob’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Association of Christian Schools International Eastern Canada or the Port George/Mount Hanley Baptist Churches. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

Mr. Donald John Hayes
1944-2009
Donald John Hayes - 65, of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, he was a son of John and Mary (Scott) Hayes, North Hills Manor, Granville Ferry, formerly of Coldbrook. He had been employed with Hayes Mill, Coldbrook and later with Scotian Gold for a number of years. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Katrina Gulisano, Atlanta, Georgia; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Olivia, both of Atlanta; sister, Joan Avery, Kentville; two nephews, Darren and Darrell Durling. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2009, Reverend Murray Shaw officiating. Burial will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
