ERNST, Obediah Amos - 77, Union Square, Lunenburg County, died October 12, 1993, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Union Square, he was a son of the late Amos and Lavenia (Oickle) Ernst. He served in the Royal Canadian Army during the Second World War. He worked for Bowater Mersey in the woods most of his life. He was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Union Square. He is survived by four sisters, Maude Ernst, Union Square; Grace MacKay, New Germany; Vera MacKay, Genevieve Veinot, both of Upper Northfield. He was predeceased by three sisters, Alice, Mary, Minnie; six brothers, Freeman, Charles, Howard, Joseph, Ray, Leroy in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Langilles Funeral Home, New Germany. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. October 20 in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Rev. Peter Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Union Square Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church.
CHARLTON, Laurie Stanley - 69, Lake Pleasant, Annapolis Co., died February 22, 1995, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at Lake Pleasant, he was a son of Arabel (Sproule) Charlton, Lake Pleasant and the late Stanley Clifton Charlton. He worked for the Department of Highways for 29 years as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in June, 1986. Surviving are his wife, the former Vivian Veinot; sons, Clifton (Tippy), Middleton; Bruce, Debec, N.B.; Eric, Lake Pleasant; sister, Isabel (Mrs. Richard Andrews), Waverley; brother, Howard, New Germany; four grandchildren. Mrs. David Hewett age 86, of Digby died Saturday at the Digby General Hospital. Born in Lunenburg, she was the former Mae Alfreda Venoit, daughter of the late Richard and Ruemma (Venoit) Venoit.
She is survived by one son; Harold of Digby; one daughter, Nina (Mrs. William Webber) of Digby; one sister Lillian (Mrs. Reginald Kendall), of Harwichport, Mass, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son and four brothers.
Body rested at Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby. Funeral Services was held on Tuesday at 2.00 p.m. from the Anglican Church in Digby. The Rev. Michael Boyd officiated with interment in the Round Hill Cemetery, Round Hill Annapolis County (Feb 3, 1977)
HILTZ, Alice Evelyn - 94, Forties, Lunenburg Co., died April 3, 1996, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Dalhousie, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Amos and Amelia (Wentzell) Veinot. She resided at the home of her son Maxwell until her death. She was a member of St. Augustine Anglican Church, Forties, and took an active part in church and community affairs. HICKS, Lloyd Russell - 84, Digby, passed away May 13, 2007, at home. Born in Round Hill, Annapolis Co., on August 23, 1922, he was a son of the late Leprllet and Bertha (Cress) Hicks. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 20, Digby, and held several offices. He was the parade commander for the November 11 ceremony for several years. He was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Digby, where he sang in the choir, was a warden and treasurer. He was a veteran of the Second World War. In his earlier years, he worked on the railroad. After the war, he worked with his brother Harry, and in 1954 he opened his own barbershop. Surviving are his daughters, Leulla (Robert) Marshall, Lynda (John) Baxter; sons, Dudley (Sharon) Hicks, Richard (Gail) Hicks; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Thelma; sisters, Lena and Hazel; brothers, LeRoy, Burt, Harry, Carl, and Reg; one grandson. Arnold Gerald Robar 55, of New Germany, passed away June 20, 2001 at home. Born in North River, he was a son of Marjorie (Ernst) Robar, North River; and the late Ernest Robar. He worked in the woods for 37 years.
