George Edward Acker
CANNING – George Edward Acker, prominent canning resident and barber for the past 35 years died at the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville, following a heart attack Sunday. Born in Springfield 62 years ago, he was the son of William and Naomi (Woodworth) Acker. After completing his schooling at Hunters Lodge, he moved to Nictaux where he was engaged in farming before taking up residence in Canning. Mr. Acker was a former member of the Canning IOOF lodge and Glooscap Rebekah Lodge and a member of St. Michael and His Angels Anglican Church, Canning. Surviving besides his wife, the former Lillian Burns, are one son, Murray, Kentville; two grandchildren, one sister, Bertha (Mrs. James Munroe), Mill Village, Queens Co., four brothers, Obediah, Springfield, Ferdinand and Lloyd, both of Wilmot and Lewis, Portland, Me. A brother, Fred of Caledonia, predeceased him in 1961. The body is at the H.C. Lindsays Funeral Home, Kentville and will be taken to the home Thursday morning and to the Anglican Church, Canning for funeral services at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. Keith Mason will officiate. Interment will be in the family lot at Church Street.

Albert A. Veinot
Albert J. Veinot passed away at his home in New Germany on June 12th, after a long illness caused by cancer. He was sixty-six years of age and son of the late Solomon and Mary Veinot of Blockhouse. For the past twenty-seven years he resided in New Germany. He was a member of St. John's Church in the Wilderness, also a member of Pine Grove Lodge, No. 111. He leaves to mourn their loss, a widow; two sons and one daughter: Kerry, at home; Roy
and Blanche (Mrs. A.H. Veinot), both living in New Germany. Two daughters, Marie predeceased him thirteen years ago and May, two years ago.

Gladys Belle Naas, 77, Lilydale, Lunenburg County. died October 28, 1998, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born at Cross Island, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Elekium and Emma (Smith) Whynacht. She was a member of St.Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg. Surviving are her husband, George; daughter, Paulette (Mrs. David Fraser), Upper LaHave; son, Douglas, Lilydale; sister, Marjorie Daniels, Lunenburg; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Ray, Guy, Basil. No visitation by request. Private service for immediate family only Friday at 2 p.m. in St.Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Laurence Mawhinney officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Dana L. Sweeny Funeral home, Lunenburg. David Veinot

David Veinot, an old and respected resident of Branch LaHave, passed peacefully to his eternal rest on Saturday, December 8 th, at 2 p.m., at the advanced age of 83 years, having been confined to his bed for nearly a year.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Alexander Conrad of Vogler's Cove; Mrs. Harben Mailman of Middle Branch; and Mrs. Lester Conrad of Branch LaHave, who resided with him and faithfully cared for him during his illness; two sons, Paul of Branch LaHave and William of New Canada; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Robar of North River and Mrs. Ada Simpson of Simpson's Corner; eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild - Florence Grace of Charlestown, Mass. The funeral service was held on the following Tuesday morning, after a short service at the house the procession proceeded to St. James Lutheran Church where a comforting sermon was delivered by Rev. C. H. Whitteker from Romans 8, chapter 38, verse 39, after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Branch LaHave.
OICKLE - Zelda Blanche - 74yrs. old of New Germany, died September 27, 1994, in Rosedale Home for Special Care. Born at Union Square, Lunenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Ahiah and Eva (Ramey) Veinot. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband Reginald Frederick, New Germany; son Mervyn, Wilmot, sister Reba Veinot, Wentzalls Lake; brother, Perry; West Northfield. She was predeceased by three sisters, Charlotte, Roxy, Frances; six brothers, Cameron, Russell, Donald, Keith, Max, Percy. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 today at Langilles Funeral Home, New Germany. Funeral will be 2 PM Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany. Rev. Robert Robb officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Seth Bert Drew, 61, of Bridgewater, died at his home December 2, 1972. He had been a long-time employee of Acadia Gas Company in Bridgewater. He is survived by his wife, Maletia; two daughters, Carol (Mrs. Merrill Veinot), Dartmouth; Patricia, Halifax; four sons, William, Trenton, Ontario; Gerald, London, Ontario; Robert and Donald, both of Bridgewater; four sisters, Alpha, Christine, Lila, and Rose; a brother, Clifford; and six grandchildren.
Interment was at the family lot, Brookside Cemetery.
BURGOYNE, Percy Gilford - 85, Hastings, Annapolis Co., died March 22, 1995, at home. Born in Hastings, he was a son of the late Harding Arthur and Mary M. (Demone) Burgoyne. He worked as a lumber tallier in various sawmills. Surviving are sisters, Nellie Russell, Meisners Section; brother, Ralph, Springfield. He was predeceased by a sister, Mae; brothers, Fred, Frank, Allison, two in infancy. Funeral was held March 25 in Springfield United Baptist Church, Springfield, Rev. Brian Wheaton officiated. Burial in Springfield United Baptist Church cemetery. Donations to Springfield United Baptist Church cemetery or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
BLOCKHOUSE - Dec 26, 1986 - Funeral Service for Ivan C. Bezanson of Mahine Bay, who died Friday in South Shore Hospital, Bridgewater, was held Sunday in St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. William Dye officiating. Burial was in Second Peninsula Cemetery. Born in New Ross, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bezanson.
He owned and operated a television and radio repair shop in Mahone Bay for many years. He recently relocated the business to Blockhouse. He was a former councillor for the Town of Mahone Bay and a past member of St. James Anglican Church Parish Council. He is survived by his stepfather, Otis Veinotte, Second Peninsula; his wife, the former Edna Ralph; two daughters, Brenda (Mrs. Blaine Knickle), Blockhouse; Debbie, at home; a son, Wayne, Edmonton; a sister, Rita (Mrs. Eugene Creaser), Second Peninsula; a brother, Murray, Berwick; four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Clayton. Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart Fund or Canadian Cancer Society.
William Veneau
Lunenburg - William H. Veneau, Lunenburg, died in the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Lunenburg 87 years ago, the son of the late Alfred and Sara Veneau. Surviving are his wife, the former Pearl Rafuse, of Northwest; five daughters, Veina (Mrs. Carroll Feindel) of Toronto; Mae (Mrs. Roy Dares), Dartmouth; Aulive (Mrs. Everett Walters); Kathleen (Mrs. Gordon Clarke) and Marion (Mrs. Phillip MacIsaac), all of Lunenburg. Also surviving is one son, Donald, of Oromocto, N.B.; and one sister, Mrs. Allen Eisenhauer of Cambridge, Mass. There are 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The funeral was held from St. John's Anglican Church, Ven. Harold Graven officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest cemetery.

COLLICUTT, Connie Elaine - 51, Canaan, Lunenburg Co., died August 1, 1996, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Maplewood, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of Irene Louise (Veinot) Collicutt, Canaan, and the late Steve Collicutt. She was a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Canaan United Baptist Church. Surviving are sister, Cheryl (Mrs. John Perry), Windsor Road; brother, Grant, Canaan; niece, Michelle Perry; nephew, John-Robert Perry. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. LILLIS, Lloyd St. Clair - 74, Second Peninsula, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Whynott's Settlement, he was the son of the late John and Marguerite (Veinotte) Lillis, and was brought up by his grandparents, Enos and Florence Veinotte. In his earlier years, Lloyd went to sea on Columbia University's Research Vessel, Vema, and then went to work as a fabricator with ABCO Industries, Lunenburg, for over 40 years. Lloyd is survived by daughter, Colette Lillis (Brenton Wagner), Stonehurst; sons, Bentley (Katherine Zinck), First South; Berkley (April Zinck), Second Peninsula; and Colin (Heather), Bridgewater. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Pauline Langille, and a sister in infancy. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg, where a memorial service in celebration of Lloyd's life will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Robert Zinck officiating. Interment will be in Second Peninsula Cemetery, Second Peninsula. Flowers from the immediate family only. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Lucy Ann Wile
Wileville - On July 11th, there passed away at the home of her son, Frederick Wile, Lucy Ann Wile, in her 92 nd. year. She was the widow of Simeon Wile. Having been an invalid for the past three years, she was tenderly cared for by her daughter-in-law, Vera. Her husband predeceased her 21 years ago. She was the daughter of the late Fabian and Caroline Veinot, and was the third surviving of a family of nine children, David, Howard, Moses, William, Letitia Silver, Eleanor Silver, and Judith Zinck, all deceased.Hibbard and Joe Veinot, of Hemford, are the only surviving brothers. She was the mother of twelve children: Fred, with whom she lived and was cared for; William, address unknown; Wallace and Bordman, deceased; Mrs. Hiram Taylor (Lida); Mrs. E. Whynot (Ella), both of Bridgewater; Mrs. James Keef (Effie), Mrs. N. Walters (Nancy), Mrs. Bert Brown (Hattie), Mrs. B. Johnson (Blanche), all of the U.S.A.; Mrs. Mary Thayer, U.S.A. A baby died in infancy. She leaves 39 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. She was laid to rest in Brookside Cemetery on Friday afternoon, Rev. C.H. Whitteker, officiating.

Cevilla Veinot - The community of New Germany was saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Cevilla Veinot, widow of the late Albert Veinot, whose death occurred at her home on Tuesday, January 22, following a very brief illness. Mrs. Veinot was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Newton Langille, of Cookville, Lun. Co., and was 79 years of age. Her husband predeceased her 25 years ago, also two daughters, Marie and May passed away many years ago. The deceased was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, also of Hawthorne Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by one daughter, Blanche (Mrs. Albert Veinot); two sons, Ray and Kerry, the latter with whom she resided, all of New Germany; there are nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one sister Effie (Mrs. Peter Cantelope), of Lunenburg, and a brother, Robert, of Tupperville, Anna. Co.. The funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at St. John's Anglican Church, conducted by the rector, Rev. W.A. Trueman. Interment was in the family lot in St. John's Anglican Cemetery.
