CORKUM, Florence Mildred -98, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., formerly of Pleasantville, passed away after a short illness on November 19, 2008, in Hillside Pines Home for Special Care, Bridgewater, with family and friends at her side. Born in Pleasantville, she was a daughter of the late William and Ester (Neil) Sarty. She is survived by daughters, Gloria (Bernard) Hagerty, Kathryn Whynot; sisters, Geneva Lockhart, Leah Randall and Arlene Snyder; grandchildren, Beth (John) Coolen, Brent (Natalie) Hagerty, Theressa (Curtis) Hynick; six great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews. Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Albert Meisner; second husband, Arthur Corkum, as well as sisters, Grace Cameron, Rita Bustin, Viola Bond; brother, Willard Sarty. Visitation 2-4 p.m. today, funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday, both in R. A. Corkum Funeral Home Wileville, Rev. Douglas Porter officiating. Burial in Corkum Family Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

KEDDY, Theodore Leon - 78, Upper Kennetcook, and formerly of Truro, passed away in Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, on June 21, 2000, after a short battle with cancer. Affectionately known to many as "Bub", he was born at the Forties on June 18, 1922, the son of the late Edward and Loretta (Bezanson) Keddy. He worked for John Ross and Sons in Truro for 41 years. He was partner in Keddy Christmas Tree Co. of the Forties for 40 years. While living in Truro, he met and married Margaret Griffin, New Glasgow. Bub was a member, past master and past district deputy grand master of the Masonic Lodge 43 AF&AM; , Truro. He was a chartered member of Norwood Lodge 135 AF&AM; , New Ross. He was also a member of the Shriner's. Bub and his wife enjoyed retirement living in their country home in Upper Kennetcook and frequent travels. Besides his wife, he is survived by sister, Frances; brother, Douglas, both of the Forties; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Seaward, Lloyd, Gordon, George; sisters, Florence (Fancy), Alberta (Rhodenizer), Doris and Rhena. Visitation will he held in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, today from 7-9 p.m. with a Masonic Lodge 43 AF&AM; tribute service at 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held in Lindsay's Funeral Home, New Ross, on Friday from 2-5, 6-9 p.m. with Norwood Lodge 135 AF&AM; Tribute Service at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held in St. Augustine's Church, the Forties (New Ross) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with a graveside service in St. Augustine's Cemetery and reception to follow at the Forties Community Centre. Donations in memory may be made to the St. Augustine's Anglican Church Cemetery Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Laura Veinot
Death cast a gloom over the community of Upper Northfield and surrounding districts on Wednesday evening, June 7th, 1972, when it claimed a good friend and neighbour in the person of Mrs. Laura Veinot, widow of the late Leander Veinot and familiarly known to all as Grammie Laura, at the age of 90 years. In spite of her many years, she was still young in heart, and was very active up to the time of her death which came very sudden. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed in her home and community. She was a daughter of the late Mary and Adolphus MacKay and was born at Upper Northfield, where she lived her entire life. A faithful member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, L.C.W. group and Good Will Sewing Circle, she took a keen interest in all phases of its work. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alma Oickle, one son Leon, with whom she resided, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service which was largely attended was held from Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church on Friday, June 9th, at 2 p.m. and was conducted by her pastor, Rev. Richard Tubbe. Interment was in the Upper Northfield cemetery.

Margaret Adelia Joudrey, 84, Branch LaHave, Lunenburg County, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2004, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Branch LaHave, she was the daughter of the late Freeman and Odes (Smith) Meisner. Surviving are a son, Linden (Katie), Branch LaHave; grandchildren Katelin Joudrey, Rodney (Shawna) Joudrey; Lisa (Owen) Wheeler; six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, LeRoy; so Calvin; sisters, Viola Wentzell, Gladys Studivan; brothers, William, Kenneth, Roy, Doyle. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Branch LaHave.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Branch LaHave, or a charity of your choice.

Theodore Bernard MacKay passed away on September 1, 2003 at his home in Union Square. Born in Upper Northfield on February 9, 1941, he was the son of the late Keith and Annie (MacKay) MacKay. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Veinot), daughter Charlene, Union Square; sons Todd (Sheila Fillmore), Union Square; Trevor, Cochrane, Ontario; Sheldon (Tabatha Zinck), New Germany. Also surviving are half-brothers Boyd (Karen) Oickle, Cookville; Gregory (Stephanie) Oickle, Bridgewater; Bradford (Janet) Oickle, Alberta; Larry Oickle, Pinehurst; two grandsons, Daniel and Anthony. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Rex Oickle and uncle and sister-in-law Eugene and Marlene MacKay.
Funeral service was held on September 4, 2003 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Union Square. Burial was in the Union Square Cemetery. Pallbearers were relatives and friends of the family: Clayton MacKay, Troy MacKay, Corey Robar, Randy Conrad, Winston Meisner and Kevin Wentzel.

LUTZ, Marion Blanch - 69, of Morristown, died Wednesday in Grand View Manor, Berwick.Born in Morristown, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Noma (Taylor) Lacey. She was a member of the Morristown Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Medford; four sons, Medford, Dennis, Russell, and Gary, all of Morristown; four daughters, Phyllis (Mrs. Peter Nejrup), Wilmot; Noreen (Mrs. Roy Chute), Tremont; Dianne (Mrs. Eugene Davis), Morristown; Carolyn Lohnes, Shaw Road, Berwick; four sisters, Nellie (Mrs. Aubrey Lutz), Lake Paul; Hazel (Mrs. Wallace Simpson), Centreville; Helen (Mrs. Rod Barrett), Washington; Edie (Mrs. Calvin Lutz), Nictaux; two brothers, Hilton, Berwick; Ernie, Mississippi; 25 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, Russell, Carl, and Sonny; a sister, Emma; three grandchildren. The body is in the H.C.Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, visiting 2-4 and 7-9 pm, today. Funeral will be held 2 pm Saturday in Morristown Baptist Church, Rev. Lionel Moriah officiating. Burial will be in Morristown Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society.

Daniels, William Spurgeon - 74, North River, Lunenburg County, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of Laura (Joudrey) Daniels, Bridgewater and the late Arthur Daniels. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was a past president of the minor hockey league.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marion Joyce Robar; children Donna Arenburg, North River; David, Beach Meadows, Queens County; Annette LeBlanc, Upper Tantallon; Angela Daniels-Drummond, Dartmouth; grandchildren Amy, Jared, Joseph, Lexy, Joshua, Andrew and Thomas; great-grandchildren Haley and Kelsey; sisters Betty Joudrey, Bridgewater; Janet Zwicker, Camperdown; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son Darren; infant daughter Cathy; and brothers Robert and Chester.

Mrs. Arlee Delong - Bridgewater - Mrs. Arlee Delong, 57, died Thursday at Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born in Upper Northfield, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Luella (Whynot) Oickle. She is survived by her husband Arlee; one son Reid, Comox, B C; two grandchildren; three sisters, Maysie (Mrs. Gilbert Stewart), Mount Forest, Ontario; Marie (Mrs. Charles Cook), Charlottetown; Janetta (Mrs. Hector Powers), Bridgewater. The body is at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be 1:30 pm Sunday at Bridgewater United Baptist Church, Rev. J Melville Scott officiating. Interment in Barss Corner Community cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Barss Corner Community cemetery fund. (CH of Sat, Mar 27 1977, pg 47).

WARD, Harold Lester - 93, Auburn, Kings Co., died December 17, 1994, in Evergreen Nursing Home, Kentville. Born in Nicholsville, he was a son of the late William and Bessie (Allen) Ward. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Helen Acker, Bonnie River, N.B.; son, Gerald, Auburn; sister, Mrs. Myrtle Shaw, Auburn; half-brother, Roy Ward, Nicholsville; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ethel Beck; sister, Kathleen. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Burial in Aylesford Cemetery. Donations to any charity.

HAINES, Ralph Waldo - 94, Martin's Brook, Lunenburg Co., died Thursday, December 8, 2005, in Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg. Born in New Germany, he was a son of the late Steven and Annie Etta (Bezanson Whittier) Haines. He was a member of Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church, Mahone Bay, a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Unity Lodge No. 4 of the Masonic Order, with a 55 year service award. Waldo started work as a carpenter with Maritime Manufacturers, Mader's Cove, as a cabinet maker. He later worked on the Dew Line as a carpenter and then as a lighthouse keeper on Cross Island for 14 years. He is survived by sons, Arnold and wife Carolyn, Martin's River; Gerald and wife Elizabeth, Nepean, Ont.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild. He was predeceased by wife, Mona Mae (Young) Haines; half-brothers, Clayton and Harold Whittier, and Stewart and Harold Haines. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg, with visiting hours Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 7-9 p.m., and where the funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Rev. James Haughn officiating. Interment will be in Martin's Brook Cemetery, Martin's Brook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church, Mahone Bay, or any charity of your choice.

OICKLE, Debney Basil - 77, Upper Northfield, Lunenburg Co., passed away February 20, 2002, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Upper Northfield, he was a son of the late Hubert and Alma (Veinot) Oickle. He was a member of Upper Northfield United Church, a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater, was a member of the MicMac Rod and Gun Club in Wentzell's Lake. He was one of the founding members of the LaHave River Ramblers Square Dancing Club. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ellen (Mrs. Wayne Zinck), Brenda (Mrs. James Fancy), both of Upper Northfield; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Hope (Lincoln) Lohnes, Upper Northfield. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Mossman); daughter, Marilyn Woodworth. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, with a public Legion tribute service being held at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Upper Northfield United Church, Lt. Don McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Upper Northfield. Family flowers only. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Upper Northfield United Church.

Mrs. Rebecca (Langille) Reed
On July 3rd, there passed away to her eternal rest, Mrs. Rebecca (Langille) Reed, widow of the late William H. Reed, at Mary Lane Hospital in Ware, Mass., at the age of 84.
She was a daughter of the late Gideon and Adelaide (Nauss) Langille, of Union Square, Lunenburg County. Formerly she taught school for twelve years in Lunenburg and Digby Counties after which she moved to the United States where she had resided for the past fifty-four years. During this time she lived in Lynn, Springfield, and Enfield prior to moving to Ware twenty-six years ago following the death of her husband.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and a twenty-five year member of Ware Grange.
She is survived by a sister, Edith Fancy of Union Square and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was conducted on July 5th, at the Walker Funeral Home in Ware, followed by committal services at the Reed family plot in Taftsville, Vermont.

Allan E. Langille - Blockhouse - Funeral for Allan E Langille, 82, of Blockhouse, was held Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. George Wawin officiating. He died Tuesday in the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born in Blockhouse, he was a son of the late Enos and Alice (Ernst) Langille. He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Ernst; two sons, Edward, Blockhouse; Lloyd, Westville; three sisters, Letitia (Mrs. Harry Veinot), Blockhouse; Charlotte (Mrs. Nepean Robar), Bridgewater; Emily (Mrs. Charles Smeltzer), Lunenburg; two brothers, Robie and Orbin, both of Blockhouse; nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Franklin; four sisters, Clara, Effie, Elva, and Lottie; and three brothers, Ozem, Orin, and Lawrence. Burial took place in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, Blockhouse. Donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or the Nova Scotia Heart Foundation. (Hfx Chronicle Herald of Sat, Feb. 11, 1984)

BURNS, Zella Roxanna - 93, New Germany, formerly of Barss Corner, Lunenburg Co., passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Scarsdale, she was a daughter of the late Caleb Adam and Ella Margaret (Mossman) Webber. Zella was a long-time member of the Barss Corner United Baptist Church and Baptist Ladies Auxiliary; she was also a member of the Barss Corner Women's Institute. Zella loved to travel and spend time with her children and their families; she also enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting. Prior to retirement, she and her husband, Herbert, owned and operated a service station in Petawawa, Ont., and later, a general store in Vogler's Cove. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Foster, Willoughby Hills, Ohio; son, Ronald (Beverly) Ramey, Petawawa, Ont.; sisters, Thelma Pierce, Halifax; Gertrude Veinot, Bridgewater; E. Marie Snyder, Simpsons Corner; grandchildren, Paul, Christopher, Timothy, and Scott; great-granddaughter, Lisa; great great-grandson, Paul; many nieces and nephews. Zella was predeceased by her husband, Herbert; sisters, Thurza London, Frances Hubley; brothers, Franklyn Webber, LeRoy Webber. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A private family graveside service will be held in Barss Corner Community Cemetery, Rev. Jennifer Joudrey officiating. No flowers by request, memorial donations may be made to the Barss Corner Community Hall or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, New Germany.
