SPROULE, Fern K. - 82, Middleton, passed away October 2, 2006, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Baker's Settlement, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Ingram and Jane (Veinot) Wentzell. Fern enjoyed family and friends and going sightseeing. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (David) Parks, Berwick; sons, Frank (Valerie) Sproule, Waterville; Major (Linda) Wentzell, Kingston; Larry (Norma) Sproule, Middleton; Iven (Diane) Sproule, Union Corner, P.E.I., and Linnes Wentzell, Bridgewater; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; an infant daughter; sisters, Lorna, Lillian and Gladys, and brother, Linnes. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, October 5, in Middleton Funeral Home (902) 825-3448, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, October 6, Mr. Paul Boylan officiating. Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to IWK Health Centre Foundation or a charity of choice.
Margaret Gaul, Lakeview, passed away at the South Shore Regional Hospital on April 10, 2003 after a short illness. Born in East Dalhousie, February 19, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Lorena (Veinotte) Crossland. She was predeceased by her husband Medford and an infant sister, Isabel.
Left to mourn is a close friend, James Oickle, Lakeview; sisters Charlotte Paré, East Dalhousie; Guida Veinotte, Wilmot; brothers Errol (Greta) Crossland, East Dalhousie; Edwin (Edith), Waterville; Arthur, Lake Paul; Marcus, Inglisville; Ivan, Bridgewater. Also, left to mourn are four nieces and four nephews.
Margaret worked hard, but always took time to enjoy nature and gardening. Most of all, she enjoyed playing cards and chatting with her many friends. In keeping with Margaret's request, there was no visitation at the funeral home. A graveside service was held on April 12, 2003 at St. Cyprian Anglican Church, East Dalhousie under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, the Rev. Lenard Bedney officiated.
Flower arrangements were from James and Margaret's family only. Memorial donations were made to the Cancer Society and St. Cyprian Anglican Church.
BAUER, Daniel Scott "Danny" - 20, Kingston, died July 1, 2002, in Coldbrook. Born in Leth- bridge, Alta., he was a son of Karen (Coleman) Bauer-Ramsay (Clare Ramsay, stepfather), Kingston and Ronald Bauer (Debbie Smith), Medicine Hat, Alta. He graduated an honor student from Middleton Regional High School where he played volleyball and basketball. He attended Dalhousie University for one year before receiving a scholarship to Royal Military College "RMC", Kingston, Ont. He was enrolled as an officer cadet in the Canadian Armed Forces having just completed his second year. He was in the top 10 percent of his class, majoring in history and diplomacy. He was a starter on the varsity volleyball team, an active member of a bible study cell group and an active member of the photo video group. (This was Dan's way of avoiding parade duty). He was a member of Kingston Baptist Church. He will be lovingly remembered by Debbie, Dennis, Matt and Rich Smith; Kim, Bob, Erin and Steph Power; Angela and Antoine Verheijen and family; Mike and Nancy Bauer and family; numerous other family, friends and RMC comrades. Surviving are sister, Krista Marie, Kingston; stepsisters, Eileen, Kingston; Amanda, Halifax; brother, Ryan David, Kingston; stepbrothers, Anthony (Anne), Fredericton, N.B.; Douglas and Bruce, both of Kingston; maternal grandparents, Dick and Erma Coleman, Kingston; paternal grandparents, Art and Pat Bauer, Edmonton, Alta.; paternal great-grandmother, Annie Thomson, Matawatchan, Ont. BUTLER, George H. - 81, New Minas, died December 17, 1994 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Forest Home, Kings Co., he was a son of Henry and Sarah (ARNBURG) BUT LER. He worked with Avon Power Company for 20 years, and also with Standard Paving for 16 yea rs, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Kentville United Baptist Church. MILLER, Alberta Louise - 87, Granville Ferry, passed away December 7, 2005, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Phinney Cove, she was a daughter of the late Edmund and Lydia (Sarty) Bent. Alberta was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and a foster mother. She was an avid baseball player and she loved to watch her family play. She worked in Halifax during the war. She taught school for awhile and worked at C.F.B. Cornwallis, along with raising her 12 children, whom she loved dearly. Good job, well done Mom. ACKER, Otis Charles - 88, Centreville, died peacefully on Sunday, January 30, 2005, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in North River, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Currie and Elizabeth (Robar) Acker. He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy McKay; stepchildren, Joyce Butler, Lower Sackville; Linda Jess, Centreville; Keith McKay, Halifax; Richard McKay, Vernon Mines; sisters, Helen and Susan; many nieces and nephews, including his nephew Kenneth Acker, New Germany. Otis was predeceased by his first wife, Jenny Beatrice Acker; brothers, Leonard, Harris, and Obie; sisters, Ann and Maggie. He drove logging trucks most of his life and in later years drove school bus. He moved to Centreville when he married Nancy in 1985 and was a member of the Centreville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Otis and Nancy lived in Billtown for many years before moving to the seniors' residence on Murray Drive, Centreville. He had been at New Visions Nursing Home, Berwick, for the past two months. Otis will be remembered for his many acts of kindness. He enjoyed picking strawberries and would spend hours engaged in that activity and then give the strawberries he had picked away to others. Many times friends would find a bag of carrots, onions, etc. on their doorstep, quietly left for them by Otis. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Centreville, Saturday February 5, at 2 p.m. with Paul Crandall officiating. Family flowers only by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Watch Tower" or to any other charity. She resided in Baxter Harbour for the past 20 years and was a member of Cornerstone Assembley Church, Hillaton, Kings County. Born in Fauxburg, he was a son of the late Arthur and Beatrice (Keddy) Veinot. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay. He was a retired section foreman with Canadian National Railroad. He was a member of Charity Lodge 69, Mahone Bay. He is survived by his wife, the former Lois Wilneff; daughter, Rochelle Whynott, Blockhouse; two sons, Dwight Earl, Halifax; Blake Woodrow, Cornwall, Lunenburg County; sister, Esther (Mrs. Clyde Robar), Bridgewater; brother, Perry, Northwest, Lunenburg County; two grandchildren.
