Mr. C. Douglas "Dick" Coleman
1922-2010
C. Douglas “Dick” Coleman - 87, of Chipman Brook, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at home. Born on December 5, 1922 in Upper Burlington, Hants County, he was a son of the late Cornelius and Grace (Brydon) Coleman. Dick was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas. He returned home to work as a carpenter until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. He is survived by five sons, Alton, Atikokan, Ontario; Neil, Danny, Peter (Diane) and Randy, all of Chipman Brook; four daughters, Joyce (Norman) Dilts, Tucson, Arizona; Anita (Geoff) Langill, Pugwash; Sharon (Kevin) Matheson, Cole Harbour; Lynn (Peter) Godin, Eastern Passage; two sisters, Alice, Ontario and Evelyn Doherty, Chipman Brook; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Clara (Fredericks); a brother, Vernon; a sister, Margaret Usher; a daughter-in-law, Diane. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010. A private family burial will take place in the East Black Rock Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
Mrs. Joyce Elaine Pick
1932-2010
Joyce Elaine Pick … 77, of White Rock, Kings County, passed away Friday, February 5, 2010 in Orchard Hall, Kentville.
Born in Vernon Mines, Mountain Front, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Levi and Annie May (Keizer) Crandall.
In her younger years, she had been employed as a housekeeper in Cape Breton, Halifax and the Annapolis Valley.
She was primarily a homemaker, painter and crafter.
In addition to painting, she enjoyed other arts such as knitting, crocheting, pottery and quilting.
She even taught her late husband to quilt when he was 80.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed going for evening drives where she would deposit lupin seeds along the roadside during her travels.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Pick, White Rock; a son, Phillip (Tracey), Sunken Lake, Kings County; five grandchildren, Ian, William, Levi, Clayton and Lorna; two sisters, Hazel Melanson, Woodville and Muriel Young, Waterville; two brothers, Raymond (Lois) Crandall and Earl (Jean) Crandall, both of New Minas; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Elmer; a son, Kenneth; a sister, Patricia “Pat” Roy; two brothers, Willis and Howard. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by family request.
The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Shelley Pick officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date in the White Rock Cemetery, Kings County.
Donations in memory may be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Canada or the Alzheimer Society.

Mr. Harold Morley Brown
1919-2010
Harold Morley Brown - 91, of Greenwich, Kings County, Nova Scotia, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Stouffville, Ontario, he was the only son of Morley and Gertrude (Kendrick) Brown.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served as a Lieutenant in the RCNVR.
In the years following his naval service, he continued to have a strong love of the sea and an interest in naval history.
He maintained memberships in the Royal Canadian Military Institute and the Naval Officers Association of Canada for many years.
He had a long and successful business career as a manufacturers’ agent.
A wonderful family man, Harold was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ada Payne; two sons, Gregory and Christopher (Gail); two granddaughters, Brittany and Morgan. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
At Harold’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Berwick Cemetery.
Donations in memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Doris Shirley Black
1928-2010
Doris Shirley (Williams) Black - 81, of New Minas, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Valley Regional Hospital for their kindness and compassion.
