McCORMICK, David Allan 'Otis'
2015-10-26
Whitney Pier

It is with sadness we announce the passing of the late David Allan McCormick, 67, on Monday, Oct. 26, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney, David was the son of the late Joseph and Anita (MacDonald) McCormick.

Those who knew Dave know not much has to be said to sum him up. Those who knew Dave loved him — his sense of humour and dry wit made it hard not to. Anyone could tell you a story about a time when he spouted something original that cracked them up. Where he derived his one-of-a-kind one-liners from we’ll never know, but we do know we’ll miss them. Dave will be missed dearly.

Dave was predeceased by his father, Joseph; mother, Anita (MacDonald); sister, Shirley; brother, Bernie; brother-in-law, Bill and his partner, Denise.

Dave is survived by his sisters, Joan King and Sheila (Don) Burke; ex-wife and longtime friend, Sharon Powell; ex-wife, Kimberly Campbell; children, Christopher (Tanya), Adam (Christa), Michael, Terry, Brandi and Joey; grandchildren, Gabriel, Austin, Autumn, Brianna, Calem, Kennedy and twins, Tatum and Sawyer; sister-in-law, Teresa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of David Allan McCormick will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12-2 p.m. with service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Private family burial will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of David may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or Canadian Red Cross.

Family give much thanks to the nursing staff of 4B and Palliative Care Unit, not to mention the ER staff of the CBRH. Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff of the CB Cancer Centre. The Family would also like to thank Karla Bond, in particular, for her dedication to, and care for, Dave and his family.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

So, to quote Dave, “Alright, I don’t wanna talk to ya no more…"
