MORRISON, George Andrew

Dad passed away on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness.

Born on Sept. 29, 1923, George celebrated his 92 birthday last month. He was the son of the late Donald John and Sadie (Liscombe) Morrison.

Dad was a commercial salesman, working for Eastern Bakeries which took him from the local Sydney area and as far as Down North on his bread truck. He moved on to travel from Sydney to New Glasgow for Morses Tea, EB Eddy products and Target Foods. After retiring, dad and mom opened a convenience store next to the house in South Bar. Dad enjoyed hunting, bowling, skating, walking along South Bar highway and drives on any back road he could find.

Dad leaves behind his four daughters, Judith Hartigan, Marilyn Quinn (Colin Campbell), Janice Morrison and Joyce Morrison, all of South Bar; four grandchildren, Tammy Quinn (Andrew Lefebvre), Jennifer Quinn (Shaun MacLean), Holly Knott (Jason), Andrew Hartigan (Mary Wilcox) and four great-grandchildren, Kenzie Pearson, Davis Pearson, Kayleigh Hartigan and Kira Hartigan. Dad also leaves behind two sisters, Esther Jessome and Lois Matheson; sisters-in-law, Pearl (Merritt) Richardson and Tina Johnston; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Johnston) and brother, Gerald.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of George Andrew Morrison will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1-2 p.m. with service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Kevin Richardson officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Private family burial will be held in Harbourview Cemetery, South Haven at a later date

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

We can never thank the entire staff of 4A enough. From the nurses to the cleaning staff who took time to chat with dad. A very special thank you to his nurses, Dawn and Kim, the both of you brightened dads days over the past four months. We can't thank all of you enough.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

CAMBRIDGE, Jerome Calvin

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Jerome Calvin Cambridge, 58, on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at home.

Born in Sydney, Jerome was the son of Garfield Moe and the late Loretta May (King) Cambridge.

Jerome was a kind and loving person, he loved his family and adored his grandchildren. Jerome was known as Uncle Bunk to his beautiful niece, Chloe who will miss him dearly. He was a faithful and caring brother who we could always count on. Whatever Jerome had experienced in life taught him the value of peaceful living and that’s what he demonstrated daily.

Jerome will be missed by all who knew him.

Jerome is survived by his daughters, Elissa and Breanna; son, Theo; three grandchildren, Jamila, D'Andre and Aliyah; best friend, June Clearsky; father, Garfield (Louise) Moe; sisters, Darlene, Marion (John), Mona (Wally), Wanda, Danita and Dorothy; brothers, Karl (Cleo), Garfield Jr. and Louie; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his mother, Jerome was predeceased by his stepfather, Alphonse Bishop and brother, Jody.

At Jerome’s request cremation has taken place. Visitation for the late Jerome Cambridge will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015 at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Alex MacLellan officiating. Following the mass a reception will be held at the Menelik Hall Community Centre, Laurier Street, Whitney Pier. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of Jerome may be made to a charity of your choice.

BONA, Florence Isabel (Fanning) 'Pookie'

After a full and spirited life, Florence passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at the age of 88.

Born in Canso, N.S., Florence was the daughter of the late Gerald and Lillian (Morris) Fanning.

As a matriarch of our family, Florence was a woman of great faith and a dedicated wife of Clarence for 67 years. She was the mother of 11 children and a caring compassionate friend.

Among mom’s many accomplishments: she was always a strong advocate for people with mental and physical disabilities, especially for her son, John. She loved roses and making crochet dish towels and chocolate balls and took great pleasure in sharing them with all who touched her in life. They are enjoyed by friends and family right across Canada.

Florence is dearly loved and will be forever missed by her husband, Clarence; daughters, Lillian (Eldin) Campbell, Alta., Anne (Roddy) Bereziuk, Halifax, Marie Chiasson, Victoria Mines, Clarisse (Bert) MacDonald, Catalone Gut, Rosalie (Billie) Usher, Gardiner Mines and Eileen (Dale), Alta.; sons, Joey (Valetta), Ont., Jimmy (Sharon), Whitney Pier, and Jerry (Kim), Ont.; 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Valencia MacKinlay, Halifax, and Molly (Bruce), Greenlaw, Ont.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by her daughter, Gloria and baby Troy Hennick; son, John; son-in-law, Eddie Chiasson; sisters, Mamie, Eileen, Marjorie, Lillian and Genesta; brothers, Donnie, Charles, Tom and Robert ‘Bob’. Her charm, humour and endlessly giving naturally will be greatly missed by all and especially her lifelong friend, Enid Gosse.

Visitation for the late Florence Bona will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2014, at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), from 5-8 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Florence will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel with Fr. Alex MacLellan officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the funeral home reception area following the service. Private family interment will take place in new Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Florence may be made to Cape Breton Resi-care, Horizon Achievement Centre or charity of one’s choice.

Special thanks to the care providers at CBRH palliative care (angels) and all of mom’s doctors, nurses, home keepers and personal care workers especially, her family doctor, Dr. M. Smith for the past 50 years.

KIRTON, Eleazor

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, Eleazor Kirton, 68, on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 28, 1947 in Sydney, Eleazor was the son of the late Harold and Annabell (Gero) Kirton.

In his earlier years, Eleazor served the Canadian military as a paratrooper. He loved his family especially, spending time with his grandchildren. When he was not with his family, Eleazor was always getting into trouble with his brother in-law, Dougie Kehoe and good friend, Roy McVicar. Eleazor enjoyed life and will be missed by all who knew him.

Eleazor is survived by his beloved spouse, Debbie Fong, his children, George, Melinda, Charlotte (Mike), Crystal (Don), Eleazor, Samantha, Alonzo (Bailee), Cyrus, Norman (Shannon), Darcy (Alyssa) and many grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary, Idella, Julie (Luke), Wanda, Joyce, Sharon, Lena (Dougie) and Annabell (John); brothers, Randy and Allister; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides his parents, Eleazor was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte and brother, Alonzo.

Both the visitation and funeral service for the late Eleazor Kirton will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street). Gathering of family and friends will be from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. with the funeral service to be celebrated at 2 p.m. with Patriarch Vincent Waterman 1st officiating. Following the service light refreshments will be served in the reception area. A private family interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Donations in memory of Eleazor can be made to the Last Post or St. Philip’s African Orthodox Church.

NEVILLE, Doris Marie

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Doris Marie Neville, 71, announce her passing on Thursday, Apr. 28, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Windsor N.S., Doris was the first child of the late Maurice and Doris (Page) Neville.

Doris lived out of province most of her life and later returned to Cape Breton to enjoy her retirement. She was a great lover and creator of art. She also enjoyed travelling and her beloved books. Doris will be missed by all who knew her.

Doris is survived by her brother, Bryan (Murielle) Neville; sisters, Florence Neville, Barbara (Allan) Chiasson, Laurie (Gary) MacLellan and Marilee (Michael) Bona; nieces and nephews, April, Christine, Rubby, Laura, Sean, Michelle and Eric; great-nieces and great-nephews, Natasha, Samantha, Christopher and Lucas; as well as two great-grandnieces, Hailee and Skylar.

As per Doris’ wishes, cremation has taken place and memorial service will be announced in the Cape Breton Post at a later date.

Donations in memory of Doris may be made to charity of one’s choice.

Neil Edward 'Biff' MacNeil

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of Neil Edward ‘Biff’ MacNeil on May 8, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney, Aug. 8, 1945, Biff was the son of the late Neil and Rose MacNeil.

Biff was a kind and gentle soul who loved life. He enjoyed fishing, tying flies, watching wrestling, and doing puzzles. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends who he loved dearly. He also had a love of music which was inspired by his musical gift of playing guitar.
In earlier years Biff worked for Coca Cola Bottling in Sydney, N.S. He also was a professional painter by trade and ‘Mr. Fix It’ in anything he did.

He will be sadly missed by soulmate and best friend, Julia MacDonald and her children, Kirk (Karla), Lori (Darryl) and Ryan (Alicia); special son, John (Lydia and family); daughter, Leanne (Kirt) and son, Neil MacNeil; special grandson, Brendon Hewer; granddaughter, Lilly MacIsaac (his angel) as well as several other grandchildren. Biff is also survived by sisters, Alice (Dan) Planetta, Mary (Derrick) Coates, Marjorie (Jessie) Vienneau, Donna (Francis) Aucoin and Sharon Chipman; brothers, Alexander MacNeil and Scott (Ann) MacNeil; as well many other extended family members.

Biff was predeceased by stepson, Glen, brother, Richard ‘Butch’ Chipman, and sister-in-law, Sharon MacNeil.

Funeral service to celebrate Neil Edward ‘Biff’ MacNeil’s life will be held Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) with Fr. Anthony O’Connor officiating. Light refreshments will be served following the service in the reception area. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

We would to take this time to thank the palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, for your compassion and care for Biff and the family during this difficult time.

Donations in Biff’s memory may be made to charity of your choice.
