Mr. Robert Charles Dale
1946-2010
Robert Charles Dale - 64, of Kentville, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 19, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on February 19, 1946 in Kentville, he was the son of the late Charles Norman and Frances Roosevelt (Spittal) Dale. Robert retired from the Department of Lands and Forests/Natural Resources in 1997 after 28 years of service. He also retired as Major from the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve in 1994 after 32 years of service. Most recently he worked for the Corps of Commissionaires as a security guard in Wolfville Town Square. He was a 40-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. He was a former president of the Nova Scotia Mustang Club and he also enjoyed Antique Military Vehicles and military collecting. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol Diane (Harvie); his two daughters, Angela Jane, Rankin Inlet, Nunavut and Patricia Faye, Moncton, New Brunswick; father and mother-in-law Harley and Frena Harvie, Kentville; half-sisters, Kathleen Goodwin, New Brunswick; Millicent Redden, Berwick; Mae Chapman, New Brunswick; Hilda (Leandre “Benny”) Milhomme, Brossard, Quebec. He was predeceased by half-brothers, Stanley, George Norman, and John. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010, Reverend Judith Tod Gates officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Alice Merle (Garby) Clark - 86, of Kentville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Saturday, February 20, 2010 at home. Born in Upper Kennetcook, she was a daughter of the late Ruel and Hazel (Hennigar) Garby. She was educated in Upper Kennetcook where she graduated from Grade 12. She then became employed with Clarke Brothers in Upper Kennetcook. In her younger years, she was an avid athlete. Alice was a stay-at-home mother, with her family being the focus of her life. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John; a daughter, Mary (Cecil) Lockhart, New Minas; two sons, Harold “Sandy” (Denise), Saulnierville; Stanley (Nalom), Kentville; a sister, Estelle Barron, Kennetcook; three brothers, Laurie, Kentville; Lewis and Gerald “Gerry”, both of Upper Kennetcook; six grandchildren, Andrew (Shawna) and Anthony (Stephanie) Lockhart, Meghan and Brett Clark, Suzanne (J.C.) MacDonald and Alexandre Clark; six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant sister, Marion. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Stanley. Family flowers only, by request. Gordon Louis “Gordie” Nichols - 66, of Canaan, Kings County, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 at home. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Gordon and Sara May (Lowe) Nichols. He was retired from Irving Oil Limited where he delivered home heating oil. He was a member of the Down East Classic Car Club and had been an avid sportsman. He is survived by his common-law-wife, Maria Diana Ernst; two daughters, Michele (Laurie) Harding, Aylesford; Lesley (Ken) Borden, Upper Dyke; a son, Kevin (Carrie), White Rock; two sisters, Elizabeth (Simon) Dargie, Kentville; Mary Lowe, New Minas; five grandchildren, Sarah, Riley, Chloe, Ava and Melody. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, Reverend Murray Shaw officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Helyn Claire Winnifred Logan - 96, of Kentville, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in St. Croix, Hants County, she was a daughter of the late Irving and Margaret (Smiley) Dodge. She moved to Boston at the age of 12 and later owned and operated a beauty parlour. She was an avid and skilful bowler. She retired to Nova Scotia in 1984. She enjoyed travelling, going out to eat and social times with friends at the MacDonald apartments. She was a member of the New Horizon’s Seniors Group and the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville. She is survived by many cousins and extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, John. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiating. Burial will take place in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, Massachusetts. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Patricia Mary “Pat” (nee Finney) LaRoque BA, BA(Ed), M(Ed) - retired member of the NLTA, devoted Special Education Teacher and Guidance Counselor, age 61 years, passed away peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, Nova Scotia on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Predeceased by her loving husband, Art (2001); parents, John and Anne (Hayes) Finney; brothers, Gary, Shawn, and Dan. Left with fond and loving memories, her brother, John Finney, Edmonton, Alberta; sister, Liz (Jerome) Croft, Aquaforte, Newfoundland; one nephew, Aaron Croft, St. John's, Newfoundland; four nieces, Deanne Croft (Billy Fuller) and their daughters, Sarah and Lauren, Aquaforte; Joanne Finney, Edmonton, Alberta; Danita (Cam) Lewis and their daughter, Dani, Comox, British Columbia; Anne Finney (Jason Elie), Germany; sisters-in-law, Edith Cuerrier, CBS, Newfoundland; Albertine Finney, Gibbons, Alberta; Vala (Clar) Hall and their daughter, Christina, Nova Scotia; aunts, Rita (John) Lahey, Cape Broyle, Newfoundland; Joan Wall, Appleton, Newfoundland; special friends, Sherri and Cal Prior, Neil and Linda Oliver, Sandra and Paul Monahan, Joan and Az Smith, Margaret and Tommy Carew all of Newfoundland; Susan Vaughan and Wanda Fletcher, both of Kentville, Nova Scotia and a large number of extended family, friends, and former students. Clara Veronica Boudreau - 82, of Kentville, formerly of Dartmouth and Isle Madame, Cape Breton, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Dartmouth, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Catherine (Young) James. Clara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who devoted her entire life to raising her family. She was a member of the Canadian Catholic Women’s League and St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville. Her religion was her life and she lived it daily. She retired as cafeteria hostess from Isle Madame District High School. Her children were her greatest joy and she raised them to be strong, loving, religious, honest and kind. She loved going for long walks, knitting, rug hooking and sewing. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Amable Boudreau; a daughter, Janet (Randy) Snow, Port Hawkesbury; two sons, Joseph (Susan), Napanee, Ontario and Patrick (Linda), Kentville; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Theresa Middleton and Bernadette Harris, both of Dartmouth. She was predeceased by a daughter, Judith, in infancy; four sisters, Mary Webber, Elanore Peters, Margaret James and Kay Oakley; two brothers, John and Ralph. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father Craig Christenson officiating. A private family burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request.
