Donald James "Don" Bonner
January 23, 1921 - August 10, 2007

BONNER, Donald James "Don" - 86, Sackville. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Bonner on Friday, August 10, 2007, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Don was a son of the late Frederick and Bertha Bonner. Born in Halifax on January 23, 1921, Don spent most of his young life living in Summerville, Hants Co. He was a Second World War veteran where he served in the RCAF as a Wireless Air Gunner and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bedford Branch. He owned and operated Action Sprinkler Services for 20 years. Don was a wonderful family man who loved his family gatherings where there were always lots of stories to be told. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiles and ATVs. His other loves were gardening, music, dancing, golfing and NASCAR racing. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Beryl; children, Gary (Fran) Bonner, Sackville; Bonnie (Andy) Hebert, Hammonds Plains; Don (Donna) Bonner, Oakfield; Cheryl (Pat) Sheehan, Tantallon; Joy (Brian) McEwan, Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Stephen (Julie) Hebert, Krista (Shawn) Hiscott, Geoff Bonner, Daniel (Jennifer) Bonner, Brad Bonner, Jennifer (Dwayne) Bonner, Andrew (Jana) LeClaire, Adam (Lisa) LeClaire, Ryan McEwan, Michael Sheehan, Julie Sheehan; great-grandchildren, Christian, Jack, Ethan, Aiden, Rylan, Keziah, and Haley. He was predeceased by his brother Charles. We would like to thank Dr. J. Cloney, Dr. D. White and the staff of the Medical Day Unit, Hematology 4th Floor, Dixon Centre for their wonderful care during Don's illness. Also, thanks to the staff of Floor 8A QEII Centennial Building and very special thanks to Jean and Rae for the care and kindness shown to Don and his family. Visitation will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Sackville on Tuesday, August 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, in Stoneridge Fellowship Baptist Church, 1000 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Interment at the family plot will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

Capt. Thomas "Tom" Dowe
November 21, 1947 - August 10, 2007

DOWE, Capt. Thomas "Tom" - 59, Bedford. A loving husband, father and grandfather lost his life in a tragic accident on Friday, August 10, 2007. Born November 21, 1947, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Paul and Shirley Dowe. Tom spent 29 years with the Halifax Fire Department and took early retirement, with the rank of Captain, in 2005, to spend more time with his family. He loved life, was an avid golfer and enjoyed the Mooseheads games with his sons and friends. He also enjoyed his trips to the NASCAR races with his sons. He will be greatly missed and will always be loved more than he could ever have known. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jean (Mitchell); daughter, Leighann (Roger) Brimicombe; sons, Louis (Portia), Thomas Jr. (Karen); grandchildren, Laken, Jessica, Devon, Jeffery, and Logan; brother, Darrell. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bedford, Father Patrick Cosgrove officiating, assisted by Rev. Carson Baxter. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory to IWK Health Centre Foundation (Burn Unit), 5850/5980 University Ave., P.O. Box 9700, Halifax, NS B3K 6R8, are welcomed.

Mrs. Eleanor Donalda Gouthro
July 28, 1937 - August 21, 2007

Eleanor Gouthro (Brown), 70, Glace Bay - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on August 21, 2007 at Seaview Manor Glace Bay.

Born in Glace Bay, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Bernard and Effie Brown.

She is survived by children, Debbie (Reggie) O'Neill, Bernie (Mary), Gail (Joe) Campbell, Pam (Ricky) Dixon; and Tommy all of Glace Bay. Gwen (Gordon) Bona, Jimmy, Loretta Crawford, Cecilia White, Cheryl (Kevin) Ford, Michael (Jennifer), all of Ontario. Also surviving are brothers, Donald, Art, Bobby, Alex, Ron, Roland and Paddy, twin sister Edna and sister Loretta, and by 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Harry (Mutt) Gouthro, a daughter in infancy and a brother, Jimmy. Also predeceased by her mother and father-in-law Henry and Cecilia Gouthro.

Visitation for Mrs. Gouthro will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay on Thursday from 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be Friday in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11 am with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Bridgeport.

Memorial donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of choice.

Jayda Hope and Jaylesha Faith Sparks-McDonald
August 17, 2007 - August 17, 2007

SPARKS-McDONALD, Jayda Hope and Jaylesha Faith - Twin sisters, passed away peacefully Friday, August 17, 2007, in IWK Health Centre. Born in Halifax, Jayda and Jaylesha were the daughters of Angela McDonald, Dartmouth, and Ricky Sparks, Cherry Brook. They are also survived by big sister, Jessica; brother, Tyrese; maternal grandmother, Marguerite Kenney, Lower Sackville; maternal grandfather, Gary McDonald, Dartmouth; paternal grandparents, Frances Sparks and Tommy Riley, Cherry Brook; many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. They were predeceased by brother, Jonathan in infancy. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff of the 3rd floor, IWK Health Centre for their compassion and care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Interment in Cherry Brook United Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the IWK Health Centre Foundation, 5850/5980 University Ave., P.O. Box 3070, Halifax, NS B3J 3G9, are welcomed.

Mrs. Grace Eleanor Cox
July 14, 1920 - August 20, 2007

COX, GRACE - At Tansley Woods Nursing Home on Monday, August 20, 2007 in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Herbert George Cox (1995). Dear mother of Marilyn J. Cameron and her husband Paul of Waterdown. Loving grandmother of Deanna Balne (James), Terry Cox (Rose Dorio), Ricky Cox (Judy), Dale Cox (Shelly) and great-grandmother of Brianne, Ricky, Jennifer and Sean. Dear aunt to many nieces and nephews

She is predeceased by her granddaughter Pamela Cameron (1994) and her son Gary (2000) and daughter-in-law Carole Cox (1993). thank you to the Village of Tansley Woods & Dr. Ward-Smith for all of their support.

Mrs. Cox is a the NIAGARA ST. CHAPEL of BUTLER FUNERAL HOME, 424 Niagara St. (south of Scott) where the family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. followed by cremation. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Mr. Lorne G. Farrell
December 13, 1934 - August 17, 2007

FARRELL, Lorne G., 72, Dartmouth. It is with heartfelt sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Lorne Farrell on August 17, 2007, in the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII. Born in Port aux Basques, N.L., he was the youngest son of the late Minnie (Skeard) and William Farrell. While living in Newfoundland, Lorne was employed as a meteorologist technician for the Department of Transport. He later moved to Dartmouth where he worked at Northwood Manor in Halifax. Lorne was an avid traveler and music lover. He is survived by sisters, Nina MacGregor, Bernice Andrews, Ruby (Harry) Harbin; brothers, Leonard (Edith), Calvin, Colin (Lucille); brother-in-law, George Piccott; many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. He is predeceased by sister, Joyce Piccott; brothers-in-law, Bill MacGregor, Bob Andrews; sister-in-law, Ruby Farrell. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the doctors and nurses who cared for Lorne, especially his family physician Dr. Chris Ozere and the palliative care team. Cremation has taken place at Lorne's request. A private family interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII.
