Mr. Joseph 'Joe' Blondeau

Joseph 'Joe' A. Blondeau, 99, New Waterford
Joe Blondeau, age 99, of the Maple Hill Manor and a former resident of Scotchtown, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the manor.
Born in Joggins, N.S., he was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Jules Blondeau.
Joe was a member of Calvin United Church. He was employed with the Dominion Coal Company for over thirty years and was also a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club. Joe loved to dance and sing; his favorite song being, "Between Two Trees..." which he could often be heard singing at the manor. He also played the French horn and and one time was an avid hunter. Joe was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He will be remembered as a very easy going man; with a great sense of humour and a love for life.
Joe is survived by one son, Andrew (Margaret) Blondeau, British Columbia, eight grandchildren, Dorothy (Freddie) Crawford, N.W., Rose Paradis, Dartmouth, Cheryl (Rev) Chase, Ont., Dr. Joseph (Deborah) Blondeau, Sask., Philip (Karen) Blondeau, Dartmouth, Margaret Meyers, Laurie Blondeau both of New Brunswick and Andrew (Petra) Blondeau of B.C., fourteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Joe was predeceased by his wife the former Margaret Hamilton in 1964, one son Jules 'Sonny' in 1991 and several brothers and sisters.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service officiated by Rev. Duncan Roach will be held on Tuesday 2 p.m., October 23rd, 2007 at Calvin United Church followed by interment in Union Grove Cemetery. Reception to follow at Joe's granddaughters residence, Dorothy & Fred Crawford, (3421 Ellsworth Avenue, New Waterford).
As an expression of sympathy for Joe; donations in his memory may be made to the Maple Hill Manor. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the: V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford.
Mr. Bernard "Big Bernie" MacMaster Sr.

Bernard "Big Bernie" MacMaster, Sr., 61, New Victoria
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Bernard, a husband, father & brother which occured Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. He was a resident of 3929 New Waterford Hwy., New Victoria at the time of his death.
Born in New Waterford on May 8, 1946, he was the son of the late Alexander & Veronica (Beaton) MacMaster. He was a member of the parish of St. Leonard, St. Joseph Church, New Victoria. Bernard was an employee and an executive member of the Laborers' International Union of North America Local 1115.
He will be remembered as a loving & giving father, brother and friend to all. Bernard was modest and kind with a great sense of humor and went out of his way to do anything for everybody. He enjoyed travelling, his Sunday drives and his trips to Las Vegas.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 34 years the former Theresa Chiasson, son, Bernard Jr. (Susan) at home; two sisters, Christina (John) Currie & Lorraine (Billy) Caffrey both of Boston, Massachusetts, four brothers, Donald Hughie (Janice), Saco, Maine, Duncan, Hamilton, Ontario, Archie (Lillian) & Greg (Sharon) both of New Victoria, also survived by lots of nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son Darrell Joseph; two brothers, John Angus (Harriet) & Lauchie (Donna).
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the parish of St. Leonard, St. Joseph's Church, New Victoria followed by interment in the parish cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernard's memory may be made to the Diabetic Association, Kidney Foundation or the Children's Wish Foundation, Halifax.

Mrs. Lucy Elizabeth "Betty" Synette
January 13, 1948 - October 21, 2007
SYNETTE, Lucy Elizabeth Betty - 59, Lower Sackville, passed away October 21, 2007, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax on January 13, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Rosanna (Wells) Caines. She is survived by her daughters, Michele and Mary. She is also survived by her brothers, Lloyd Caines, Doug (Louise) Caines, John (Marlene) Caines; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 30 years, Louis Hector. Betty worked as a PCW at Scotia Nursing Home for 14 years. She had spent the last few years spending quality nanny time with her loving grandchildren, Katelyn, Shane and Rebecca. She will be sadly missed by her friends, family and extended family. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, October 24, at 2 p.m. in Oakridge Memory Gardens, 1078 Old Sackville Rd., Lower Sackville, Rev. Heather MacEachern officiating. By request of the family, there will be no reception to follow. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association.
Ms. Freda Winnifred Bradley
May 31, 1944 - October 19, 2007
BRADLEY, Freda Winnifred - 63, Halifax and Dartmouth, most recently of Enfield, passed away Friday, October 19, 2007, in the VG Site, QEII. Born May 31, 1944 in Saint John, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Reverend Hubert and Anne Ruth Doody. Freda attended Dalhousie University and obtained her B.A. in 1965 and later worked at Baycrest Jewish Home For The Aged in Toronto. She later graduated with her Masters from the Maritime School of Social Work in 1980. In the Halifax area, she worked at the Department of Community Services and later at the Department of Mental Health at the Nova Scotia Hospital as well as at Bedford Sackville Mental Health Clinic. Freda had worked for the department of Mental Health for 20 years during which time she was very socially active in her community as well as championing many social causes on a broader scale as head of the social Action Committee within the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers, having served as vice and then later president of NSASW, working for equality and improving the life of those less fortunate and being the voice of those in need. Freda retired after 20 years of work in the Mental Health field. After her retirement, as well as during her tenure, she devoted much of her time to such causes and was a member of many groups for Social Action and change. She made many dear friends through this journey of devotion and compassion. Freda is survived by her son, Jason B. Bradley; sisters, Margaret Anne Doody and Mary Howell-Jones; niece, Meghan Doody; nephew, Eamon Doody. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Arthur Edward Cornwall, who was a notable turn of the century photographer in the Hantsport area. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where Freda's family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, and where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. Interment in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. In lieu of flowers, donations in Freda's memory to Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation, Dalhousie Cancer Research Program, Cancer Care Nova Scotia or charity of choice are welcomed.
Mrs. Marie Evangeline Henneberry
August 24, 1943 - October 20, 2007
HENNEBERRY, Marie Evangeline - 64, Halifax, passed away peacefully, after a courageous but short struggle with Scleroderma, on Saturday, October 20, 2007, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, with her loving daughters by her side. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Marie was the daughter of the late Joseph Garland and Evangeline (Sampson) Garland Wyman. Marie worked at Moirs before staying home to raise her family. Once her daughters were grown, she went on to work for many years as a lunch monitor with the special children at Westmount School - a job she took great pride and pleasure in doing. Marie loved life and spending time with friends and family. She also enjoyed the casino and singing karaoke with her friends at the Vimy Legion on Saturday nights. Marie is survived by her daughters, Theresa Henneberry and Wanda (St. John) Hall; grandchildren, Matthew and Angela Doiron; brother, John Garland, Lower Sackville; sister, Lillian (Dennis) Pallister, Stratford, Ont., and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for her kindness and generosity to all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Henneberry; brothers, William and Jake Garland. Cremation has taken place. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 24, at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Atlantic Funeral Home. Reception to follow.
