Mr. Steven Clarence Martell
March 16, 1958 - October 21, 2007
MARTELL, Steven Clarence - 49, Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce that Steven died peacefully in the VG Site, QEII, with Leukemia, surrounded by family on October 21, 2007. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Clarence Martell and the late Mary Tillie (LeBlanc). He attended the School of the Deaf in Amherst from 1967 until his graduation in 1986. He was involved in the Deaf Community and loved to cook and had a big heart. Steven worked as a cook for many years at Flamingo and Salty's Restaurant. He is survived by his sister, Sandra (Wayne) Purchase; brothers, Patrick, Doug (Jeannie), Michael (Christine), Richard and Joseph (Denise), all in Halifax; nieces, Tausha, Tanya, Jacqueline, and nephews, Michael and Brandon, Nathaniel. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, in Atlantic Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens beside his beloved mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The QEII Foundation, VG Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. Appreciation to Dr. Couban and his team, 4th Floor Medical Day and Unit 8A and 8B at the Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion of Steven.
Mr. Melvin Leslie Criss

CRISS, Melvin Leslie - 86, Lucasville, passed away October 20, 2007, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Berton and Alice (Sampson) Criss. He started with Cousins and was later employed as a laundry worker at the IWK Hospital. He enjoyed music, gardening, growing tomatoes and cucumbers for the family. He enjoyed going to the flea market every Sunday, then stopping at Tim Hortons to chat with friends and staff. He is survived by daughters, Dorothy Lucas, Toronto; Helen Lucas, Hazel (Claude) Rioux, Tanya Kelsey, Margaret (Bobby) Corbin, all of Lucasville; Carolyn Bernard-Jones, Toronto; Verna Bernard-Upshaw, Windsor; sons, David (Bonnie) Lucas, Melvin Lucas, Lucasville; brother, Elmer Criss, Winnipeg; grandchildren, Darlene, Jacqueline, Simon, Rachael, Adrien, Elliott, Nathan (Patricia), Emily, Cory, Natasha, Colin, Julian, and Christian; several great-grandchildren and nine other grandchildren from a previous marriage; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marie Doris Lucas; daughter, Elaine Sondervang; sister, Ellen; brothers, Clarence, Darrell, Charles, and Cecil; daughter, Margaret, age 10 months, from a previous marriage. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in Lucasville United Baptist Church, Rev. Stewart Williams officiating. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Repast will be held in Wallace Lucas Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lucasville United Baptist Church.
Ms. Beverly Noel Denise MacKeigan
December 25, 1962 - October 21, 2007
With broken hearts and lots of special memories, we regret to announce the passing of our daughter, Beverly MacKeigan on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at home with her loving family by her side, after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
Bev was a shining star, she loved people and left a wonderful impression with everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She was a member of St. Maryıs Anglican Church, Glace Bay.
Bev was an avid fan of the Screaming Eagles.
Born in Glace Bay on December 25, 1962, Bev was the daughter of Virginia (McLean) and George MacKeigan, Glace Bay.
She is survived by brothers, Dave, Glace Bay, Gord (Carolann), Grand Falls, Nfld., Peter (Bonnie), Oromocto, N.B., John James, Sheldon Michael, at home; sisters, Mary Stratford, Ontario, Leslie (Ken), Edmonton; also many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bev was predeceased by grandparents, John Robert and Mildred MacKeigan and Florrie and Roy McLean.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Maryıs Anglican Church with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment will follow at St. Maryıs Cemetery.
Donations may be made to St. Maryıs Church or a charity of choice.

Ingonish
Infant John Edward Gallen of Ingonish passed away on Sunday, October 21st, 2007 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Born in the Regional Hospital, John Edward was the son of Trevor and Katherine Gallen.
He is survived by his brother Matthew, paternal grandparents Donald and Cheryl Gallen of New Brunswick and maternal grandmother Shirley Delaney also of New Brunswick.
John Edward was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Lowell Delaney.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Melvin Clifford Gouthro

It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our father, Melvin Gouthro on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at his residence.
Born in Centreville, N.S., he was a son of the late Simon and Christina (McNeil) Gouthro.
He worked for Sysco for 50 years and was a member of the bricklayers union. Melvin was a true family man.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann (Browner); one son, Melvin J. Gouthro (Jocelyn), New Brunswick; five daughters, Christina MacKeigan (John), Ontario, Deborah Coffin (James), Lisa Summerell (David), Linda Strong (Shannon), Denise Chislett (Robbie), all of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Amanda, Justin, Kevin, John, Karen, Chrystal, Adam, Brian, Sarah, Jessica, William, Jeffrey, Jamie, Whitney and Andrew; one great-grandchild, Xander; one sister, Florence Langer.
He was predeceased by his son, Kevin and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation is today (Monday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A funeral service will take place Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care.
