With great sadness we announce the sudden death of Ronald Gordon Gladding, 65, of Stratford, on Sunday, December 2nd. For 40 years, Ron was the loving husband and best friend to his wife, Jane (nee Mavity). He was a devoted father to Paul and wife Diane Gladding, Mary Ellen and husband Dave Nelson, Karen and husband Joseph Tigani and Joseph Gladding. He is survived by grandchildren Grace and Zachary Gladding, Katie, Andrew and Shannon Nelson, and Joey, Michael and Anna Tigani. He was the son of Florence and the late Walter Gladding and brother to Nancy McCallum, Beverley Nielson and Vivian Gladding. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Bob Mavity and wife Sue, John Mavity and wife Laurie Brown, and Kelly Mavity and wife Karen, as well as sister-in-law, Norah, and husband Bill Allan. He is the cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews including Godchildren Jeff Mavity and Angela Schuster (nee Bannon). He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Gertrude Lawrance, Berenice Player who is also his Godmother, Bob and Doris Gladding, Shirley Uniac and Jim Heysel. Ron lived his entire life in Stratford and was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. He was a born teacher who spent his entire career with the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board. He contributed to many community organizations over the years including Telecare, Marriage Encounter, Marriage Preparation, the Parish Advisory Council and Meals on Wheels. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, fly-tying, boating, gardening, bird watching and spending time at the cottage at Mid Huron Beach. Ron was an optimistic person who saw the best in everyone. He celebrated the gifts and potential in every student, family member and friend. As an insulin-dependent diabetic for 52 years, he viewed every day as a gift and thanked God for life’s many blessings. Visitation will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, December 4th from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, December 5th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers will be said by Fr. Jim Williams at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Fr. Richard Bester will be the celebrant for the Funeral Mass which will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 6th at St. Joseph’s Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the funeral home.
Barbara Joanne Barrett
Mrs. Barbara Joanne Barrett, age 77, passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, November 29, 2007. Beloved wife of Ralph E. Barrett who predeceased her in 1983. Loving mother of Charles Barrett and daughter-in-law Brenda Nunes of Toronto. Also survived by her brother Jack Leighton, Victoria B.C. and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Betty Mills. Barb was with the Bank of Montreal for many years, where she met Ralph. She worked with Dr. MacLean and Dr. Haas in their dental practice in Stratford. Service to others was a large part of Barb's life, she was a long standing active member of the Stratford General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and, during her years in London, had volunteered with the Red Cross. Visitation for friends and family will take place Friday, December 7, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. Rae Ernest Knowles
Rae Ernest Knowles, age 83, of RR# 1 Sebringville, passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Monday, December 3, 2007. He was born in St. Marys, January 13, 1924, son of the late Ernest and Helene Knowles. Rae served with the RCAF during World War Two as a Radar Technician, stationed in Labrador. He later worked with Greenwood-Gilbart Funeral Home for a number of years before taking a position with Union Gas where he worked in sales until his retirement. In his retirement Rae enjoyed country life and following his great grandchildrens hockey games, always meeting new friends wherever he went. Rae was a lifelong member of Central United Church and was a 55 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #8, Stratford. Beloved husband for 62 years of Marie (Tuer). Loving father of Brian Knowles and wife Sharon of Dwight, Ontario, Karen Taylor and husband Mike, Stratford, Ann Nowack and husband Earl, Stratford. He will be missed by his grandchildren Jodilynn Taylor (Tim), Lisa Taylor (Chris), Mark Taylor (Leanne), Sarah Newton (Simon) and by his great grandchildren Brittany, Wyatt, Nicholas, Samantha, Brandon and Liam. Also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lloyd Tuer and wife Hazel, Don Tuer and wife Grace, Wanda Tuer and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother-in-law Ray Tuer. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Nelson William Tieman
Nelson William Tieman age 85 of Greenwood Dr., Stratford, passed away suddenly at the Stratford General Hospital on Monday, December 03, 2007. He was born in Stratford son of the late William and Ida Tieman. Nelson worked at the Kroehler Furniture Co. during World War Two, later owned and operated Cedargrove Restaurant at Bayfield, and then returned to Stratford and worked at the Stratford Post Office. Nelson retired from the Perth County Board of Education, Northwestern Secondary School as head custodian. He was a member of Parkview United Church for over 50 years, Sunday School superintendent, sang in the Choir and was a former member of the Board of Stewards. Beloved husband of Winnifred (Wynne) Cook whom he married at Parkview United Church November 23, 1946. Loving father of Joanne Trottier and husband Paul, Stratford, Jaimie Tieman and wife Karen, Kitchener. Dear grandfather of Stacey Marie and Kelly Ann Trottier. He was predeceased by his only brother Kenneth George Tieman.

Eric Bernard Weller
Eric Bernard Weller age 68 passed away suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, December 04, 2007. He was born in Greven, Germany son of the late Karl and Josefa Weller and came to Stratford at the age of 17 and worked as a farm hand. He later worked at Canadian Fabricated Products for almost 30 years. Eric always had a love for flying and for motorcycles. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Beloved husband of Ruth Evelyn Mielke whom he married July 15, 1967. Loving father of Carl Weller and wife Anne and their children Hannah and Erica, Shari Barber and husband Don and their children Andrew and Matthew. Brother of Karl-Heinz Weller and wife Maria and their family, Germany, brother in law of Isabel Weller, Stratford. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers Herbert Weller and Josef Weller.

Allen McLeod
Mr. Allen Wilfred McLeod, age 79, of Mornington Street Stratford, passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Wednesdsay December 5, 2007. Born in Stratford, son of the late Wilfred McLeod and the former Ruth Otto. Beloved husband of the late Georgine "Jean" (Mogk) McLeod whom he married in Milverton on October 6, 1956 and who predeceased him on November 9, 1996. Loving father of John McLeod and his wife Jennifer and their twin daughters Julia and Laurel. Dear brother of Elsie Lupton and her family of Stratford. Also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Mogk family and friend Shirley Russwurm of Mitchell.
Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by brother-in-law Ray Lupton. Allen was a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade and was self-employed. He was on the Board of the Stratford Agricultural Society and was a member of the North Easthope Antique Tractor Club, the Optimist Club, the Army, Navy, Air Force Unit # 261, Stratford and Zion Lutheran Church. Mr. Larry Richard Drown, age 59, of Queen Street Stratford passed away peacefully at home and went to be with his Lord on Saturday December 8, 2007. Born in Stratford on March 16, 1948, son of the late Harvey Drown and the former Irene Lease. Larry worked at Valeo (Blackstone) for 32 years. He enjoyed model trains and tropical fish. He was an active lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church having been an usher and on Church Council. Beloved husband and best friend of Mary-Lou (Allensen) Drown whom he married on May 24, 1980. Loving father of Elijah Drown and wife Amber Hill of London. Cherished grandfather of Keegan. Dear brother of Allen Drown and wife Barbara of Stratford. Mr. Jack Edward Pratt, age 93, passed away peacefully at the Bonnie Brae Nursing Home, Tavistock on Sunday December 9, 2007.
Born in Stratford, son of the late Harry Pratt and the former Margaret Stephens. Jack lived most of his life in London moving to Cobourg Street, Stratford in the 1970’s. Beloved husband of the late Gladys Pratt who predeceased him in 1993. Dear brother of Lorraine Yeandle and husband Kenneth of Stratford. Also survived by niece Jane Hyde and husband Don, grand nephew Trevor Hyde and wife Tina and their daughter Sydnee, grand niece Susie Shaddick and husband Mark. Step-father of Barbara Boagey and husband Bill of Nanaimo, B.C. and Joyce Raymer of Scarborough. Predeceased by step-daughter Helen Waldick. A private family funeral service will be held at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, Stratford. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, London. Mrs. Florence Frances Hardwick, age 93, a resident of Cedarcroft Place, Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Monday, December 10, 2007. Surviving are her children Lois Sutherland, London, England, Richard Hardwick (Carol), Burlington, Robert Hardwick (Debbie), Wellsville, NY. She will be remembered by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters Violet Scott, Eleanor Morris, Mary Bannerman, all of Stratford and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Florrie Jeffries, sisters Lillian Davidson, Phyllis Smith, Doris Williams, Daisy Brodhagen and by brothers Clifford and Jack Jeffries.
