Viola Hider

Viola May Hider passed away peacefully at her residence, Spruce Lodge, Stratford, on Monday, July 19, 2010 in her 95th year. She was born in Stratford daughter of the late George and Margaret (MacKenzie) Smallacombe and has lived here all her life. Viola was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, Mary and Martha Missionary Group, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member and leader of the Youth Group at Knox. She was also a member of the Stratford Kiwins and the Eastern Star.
Beloved wife of Randy Hider who predeceased her June 26, 1989. Loving mother of George Hider and wife Beverly, Stratford. Dear grandmother of Darlene Frame and husband Chris and great grandmother of Alexis and Kaitlyn. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and their families and a close friend Lois Wells,
Besides her parents and her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Ann Viola May Hider (May 1980), a brother John Smallacombe, a sister Dorothy Weitzel and husband Cliff, brother in law Charles Hider and wife Georgine, sister in law Audrey Crosby and husband Harvey.
Friends and relatives may call at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford on Friday July 23, 2010 from 2 p.m. until time of funeral service at 3 p.m. Rev. Glen Kukkola will officiate. Interment will be in Avondale cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church or Spruce Lodge through the funeral home.

Neilene Harefeld

Neilene Constance Harefeld, passed away on Tuesday July 20, 2010 at the age of 63. Neilene was born on Armistice Day 1946 in Stratford. She was born to the late Neil and Beauleau (Steffen) Etherington. Wife to Alan Harefeld whom she married June 24, 1967. Loving mother of Denholm Carl Harefeld (Mary Brunk) and Alene Harefeld (Chris Faulkner). Sadly missed by her grandchildren Samantha Constance Harefeld and Jaden Raine Denholm Faulkner. Lovingly remembered by her sister Purlanne Beauleau Budansew (Bob Budansew). Neilene graduated from Northwestern High School to work in various aspects of the agriculatural business prior to her retirement in 2010. Neilene proudly supported and encouraged her grandchildren in their many activities. At Neilene's request, there will be no visitation or services. Cremation will take place, followed by burial in Sebringville cemetery. In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, through the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, Ontario.

Rita Biers

Rita Geraldine (nee Hoey) Biers passed away on Saturday July 17, 2010. Born in Seymour Township, Ontario, Rita is survived by her daughter Catherine Biers Widmeyer and son-in-law Philip Widmeyer of Waterloo, her daughter Lori Bridge, son-in-law Damian Bridge, and grandsons Patrick and Michael Bridge of Sydney, Australia, her sister Patricia Fryer and brother-in-law James Fryer, her brother-in-law Douglas Hubble, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Jean (nee Moore) Hoey, her brothers Joseph, James, Basil, Terrence and Gerald Hoey, her sisters Margaret Hoey, Barbara Courneya, and Helen Hubble, her sisters-in-law Marie Hoey and Helen Hoey, her brother-in-law Murray Courneya, and her husband Ronald Biers. At Rita's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral home visitation. A family gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations may be made in Rita’s name through the W. G. Young funeral home, to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice

Keith Tolton

Keith Tolton, age 82, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Friday July 23, 2010.
Loving husband of Mary (Dennis) Tolton whom he married May 21, 1971. Dear father of Rory (Tolton) Butson and husband, Bill, Diane (Tolton) Moser and husband Jim. Cherished brother of Eileen Van Meer and Margaret Moore. He will be missed by his grandchildren Leanne (Butson) McCauley and husband Peter, Rob Butson and wife Jennifer, Jordan Dilworth and Taylor ( Dilworth) Marks and husband Rich and great grandchildren Ethan Butson, Caleigh Butson and Wyatt Marks.
Survived by sister-in-law, Geraldine Gaertner and husband Hal, brother - in - law Alan Taylor and wife Fran. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nephews.
Keith is predeceased by his parents Phillip and Winnifred (Conway) Tolton, his first wife Jean (Taylor) and brother Ronald.
Keith was an avid sports fan having participated as both a player and coach in hockey at the semi-professional level in Scotland and the United States. He was owner operator of Tolton's Garage Ltd with his brother Ron for 25 years. (Volkswagon and International Harvester Dealership) Keith enjoyed sailing and was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Stratford Golf and Country Club for many years and enjoyed his time there immensely.
Family and friends may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St. Stratford Ontario on Monday July 26 from Noon until 1:30 pm. A private family service will be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Stratford General Hospital Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation through the funeral home.

John Douglas

Mr. John Douglas, age 56, of Stratford passed away suddenly at the Stratford General Hospital on Saturday July 24, 2010.
John moved from Nova Scotia to Stratford and area as a young teen. He went on to work at FAG Bearings Limited for over 30 years where he became an Aerospace Engineer. He loved sports of all kinds including bowling, darts, golf and baseball. He was also a member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Unit 261, Stratford.
Dear father of Beau Douglas of Woodstock. John will be missed by his mother Barbara (nee McNutt) Darroch, his sisters Joyce (Bill) Smith, Julie (Ken) Hatch from Stratford , Edith (Drew) Sawyer from Edmonton, Alberta and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his granddaughter Piper Douglas.
He is predeceased by his father James Douglas who passed away in 1981.
Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St. Stratford on Wednesday July 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Avondale cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Army, Navy and Air Force Unit 261 through the funeral home.

Gail Ellison-Fowler

Mrs. Gail Patricia Ellison-Fowler, age 59, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Saturday July 24, 2010.
Gail was born December 1, 1950 and worked at the Goodwill Store in Stratford for 26 years. She was a member of the Phoenix Survivors, the Scrabble club and loved to sing. Loving wife of David Fowler whom she married in August 1997. Dear sister of Carol Sas and Grant (Doris) Ellison. She will be missed by Nancy, Andy and Brett Fowler, Sue Newbury and by Gail’s many nieces, nephews and friends. Gail is predeceased by her parents Roy H Ellison and the former Gladys Phillips. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St. Stratford on Wednesday July 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Parkview United Church on Thursday at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in Avondale cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or The Stratford General Hospital through the funeral home.

Rita Sangster

Marie Rose "Rita" Sangster, age 83, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Sunday July 25, 2010. Born in Mont Carmel, P.E.I., daughter of the late Emmanuel Gallant and the former Gertrude Arsenault. Rita came to Stratford in 1942, where she lived most of her life. She worked at Fischer Bearing for over 22 years and was an avid Bingo player. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Rita was predeceased by her husband Gordon Sangster (1993) and her dear friend Lloyd Bell. Survived by her seven loving children James Sangster and wife Regina, Barbra Rohrer and friend Victor Boyer, Douglas Sangster and wife Delphine, Donna Power, Peggy Harris and friend Wayne Hamm, Debbie Linseman and husband Tom, Kim Sangster and friend Jim Manktelow. Lovingly remembered by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dear sister of Bill Gallant and wife Juanita and Gussie Gallant and wife Agnes. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by five brothers and six sisters. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday July 29th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Memorial Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church on Friday at 11 a.m. Rev. Fr. Dick Bester will officiate. Interment will follow in Avondale cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church or to the charity of one’s choice through the funeral home.
