Virginia O'Connor, age 80, passed away peacefully at the Bonnie Brae Health Care Centre, Tavistock on Saturday August 27, 2011. Born in Mount Dennis, Ontario, daughter of the late James and Mary (Campbell) Hearn. She worked at Blackstone Industries in Stratford. Beloved wife of the late James O'Connor who predeceased her in December 2009. Loving mother of Christine O'Connor of Ottawa and Cheryl (Peter) Laenen of Brisbane, Australia. Cherished grandmother of Matthew Sirett, Benjamin Sirett, Christopher Miller, Caitlyn Pommainville, Conor Laenen, Ruth Laenen, and great grandchildren Eavan Pommainville and Nicholas Laenen. Dear sister of Jeanne Anderson, Marylou (Gerry) Cameron and Gayle Wilson. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers and sisters. Joseph Lucien, Jean Claude Langis age 76, of Stratford passed away suddenly on Friday August 26, 2011. Born in Quebec City, son of the late Hector and Margaret (Mayville) Langis. Claude served in Peace Core in the Canadian Armed Forces for 21 years, and retired as Master Corporal. He was an employee with Fram for over 20 years. Beloved companion of the late Kathryn Doell who predeceased him in November 2007. Loving father of Alan Langis and wife Lorrie, Gerry Langis and wife Shari, Barry Langis and wife Marg, Todd Langis, Tanya Langis, Tina Hutchison, sons and daughters of mother Brenda Babich. Cherished step-father of April Mulholland and husband Dan and Jamie Doell. Lovingly remembered by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survived by brothers Yvan, Gille, Serge and sister Therese Marquis, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Also survived by his faithful sidekick and cherished pet "Rocco". Our precious baby Alexandria Speers passed away after a short time with us at the LHSC, London on Friday August 26, 2011.
She is survived by her loving Mom and Dad Gary and Christina (Bergmann) Speers of Embro and her dear big sister Victoria Rose Speers. A graveside service will be held at Avondale cemetery on Tuesday August 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. Rev. Jim Carr will officiate.

Elizabeth Patricia Eckert, age 91, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Hillside Manor on August 29, 2011. She was born in Vancouver, B.C., a daughter of the late John and Maude O'Brien. Beth married her husband William after WWII and the couple moved to Stratford where she has been a lifelong resident. Beloved wife of the late William Eckert who predeceased her in 1984. Loving mother of Michael Eckert (Susan). Grandmother of Joel Eckert, Laura Alberastine (Tim), Elissa Elliott (Tom). Also survived by a sister Nora O'Brien and several nieces and nephews. Edmond Jodoin, age 78, of Stratford passed away at the Stratford General Hospital on Thursday September 1, 2011. Born in Quebec, son of the late Edmond and Yvonne (Gagnon) Jodoin. Ed worked as a tool and die maker at Dominion Chain and Standard Product for many years. Beloved husband of Marian (Duguay) Jodoin whom he married on July 17, 1954. Loving father of James Jodoin and wife Erica Barry, Marlene Gulikers, and Carolyn Jodoin and husband Stephen Shaw. Cherished grandfather of Stephanie, Lucas (Lindsey), Christopher, Katherine, Kevin, Griffin and a great grandson Lincoln. Lovingly remembered by one sister, three brothers, many nieces, nephews and family. At Ed's request, his body has been donated to medical science at the University of Western Ontario, London. A private family memorial service was held at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St. Stratford. Rev. Tanya Phibbs officiated. William Duncan
William John Robert Duncan passed away peacefully at his home in Embro, Ontario on Sunday, September 4, 2011 in his 74th year, with family at his side. He was born in Stratford son of the late Robert Duncan and the former Phyllis Young and lived in Harrington until his marriage to Patricia Irwin August 22, 1959. The couple then moved to Stratford and lived until taking up residence in Embro in 1979. Bill was employed at Canada Cement (Lafarge) until 1996. During this time he and his partner also owned and operated D & T Lawn Care, and for 18 years he looked after the Embro cemetery. He was a Past Master of Lakeside Doric Corinthian Masonic Lodge #569 and the Roy (Bud) Maslen Memorial Legion # 318 in Embro. Bill is survived by the love of his life Patricia Darlene Irwin, his loving sons Scott, Rob and Joe Duncan and his four grandchildren Michael Duncan, William Clark, Bradley Duncan and Olivia Clark. He is the brother in law of Doug and Joanne Irwin and Maxine and Don Robbins and is also survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins and their families. Friends and relatives may call at the W. Ivan Guzvinec
Ivan Guzvinec of Stratford was born September 23, 1937 in Croatia. He passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the Stratford General Hospital following a short battle with lung cancer. He immigrated to Canada in 1975 with his wife and three children. Ivan worked as a bricklayer, his trade, for many years and later worked at F A G Bearings before he took early retirement. He was predeceased by his parents Andela and Josip Guzvinec. He leaves behind Andela, his loving wife of 51 years, sons Vinko (Rose), Vlado (Nadica), and his daughter Marica (Mary) and Eladio Polanco. He is also survived by grandchildren Joseph, Michael, Danica, Angelica, Anthony and a brother Tomek and sisters Danica, Marica and Barica living in Croatia. Mary Jane Scott
Mary Jane (Brodhagen) Scott passed away suddenly in Stratford on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. She was born in Palmerston, daughter of Mrs. Cora (Pike) Cox of Kitchener and the late John Brodhagen. In her early years Mary Jane worked at Avon Knit in Stratford and then joined The RCAF, training in Quebec. After two years she returned to Stratford and worked at Novatronics, Square D and retired from Country Bulk in 2001. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and the WMS. Beloved wife of Patrick Harry Scott whom she married January 24, 1979. Loving mother of David (Sue) Dunsmoor, Wayne Dunsmoor, Stratford and Colleen Scott, Australia. Sister of George Brodhagen, David (Lynda) Brodhagen, Richard (Theresa) Brodhagen, Grace Hermer, Cambridge, Margaret (John) Morton, Embro, Barbara Mallia, Kitchener. Also surviving are five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a son in law Matthew Bluhm, Indiana, a brother in law Trevor Jones, Cambridge. She was predeceased by her father John Brodhagen, a daughter Jennifer Bluhm, a sister Carol Jones. Friends and relatives may call at the W. G. John Shaw
JOHN FIRTH SHAW
It is with great sadness that the family of John Shaw announces his passing on September 9, 2011 at the Etobicoke General Hospital. Born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, UK on June 28, 1948, John began his lifelong passion for music as a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral. He later attended Lancing College and then graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London where he studied both oboe and organ. Soon thereafter, he joined the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra as principal oboist and eventually spent fourteen years as that organization’s managing director. After many years as an arts administrator, he returned to music as a church organist. At the time of his death, he was organist and music director of Central United Church in Stratford and was an active member of the Stratford Concert Choir. He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Julia, and their three children Mary (Richard), Mark (Sarah) and Andrew (Candice) as well as his sister Mary (Phillip). He was a proud grandpa to Kathleen and Harry and a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews.
