Gordon Arthur Banks
March 23, 1948 - April 18, 2001

At home on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at the age of 53, after a courageously fought battle, beloved husband of Brenda; devoted father and friend to Heather and Scott; dear son of Hazel Banks and dear brother of Douglas and his wife Sheron (Pt. Colborne); sadly missed by his nieces Tamara Culp and Chantal and Kristen Banks.

Gord will also be missed by his in-laws Bonnie (Neil) Fontaine, Barry (Lori) Sabo and Bev Sabo and their families. Gord always loved his “aunt” Velma and her family. Roberta has always had a special place in his heart and he especially loves her and John’s girls Brittney and Courtney. There is one other special girl in his life named Lillian Grace Culp who came into our lives June 11, 2000. She made his eyes sparkle every time he saw her.

Gord will be fondly remembered by his many friends and colleagues from his many years with Conklin Shows, B.J. Games and the Canadian National Exhibition Casino. Gord had a seventeen year association with the Brant Figure Skating Club. He served as treasurer and always loved to help backstage at the annual Flashing Blades. He also served as second vice-president of Brantford Minor Sports Association. Through his association and hard work with the skating club he was shown the appreciation of others with many awards and honours.

He received the 1995 Presidents Award from Brantford Minor Sports Association. In 1996 he co-chaired the organizing committee for the Gold Medallion Precision Competition. In 1997 he was nominated by the club and the Western Ontario section for the Wittnauer/Canadian Figure Skating Association Volunteer award of Excellence which was awarded him in a ceremony in Toronto. Gord received the 1998 Brant Figure Skating Clubs Professional Coaches award for Club Spirit. In June 1998 Gord received the Brantford Minor Sports Award of Merit for outstanding contribution to minor sports in the City of Brantford. In September 2000 Gord became an honourary member of the Brant Figure Skating Club in recognition of outstanding service to the club and the sport of figure skating. Gord also became involved in other skating endeavours such as being in charge of transportation for major national and international competitions at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton in 1996, 1997 and 1998 Canadian Figure Skating Association Championships, which could not have been completed without the help of many individuals, especially Wayne Millward and Scott Russell. Cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be held at “THORPE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME” 96 West Street from Thursday 7 to 9 and Friday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Donations to the Brant Community Cancer Clinic at the Brantford General Hospital or the Victorian Order of Nurses (Brant) would be appreciated by Gord and the family.

William Paul Byrd
December 30, 1916 - April 12, 2001

Born December 30, 1916 in Outremont, Quebec, son of Clifford Payson Byrd and Elizabeth Langstreth.

Husband of the late Cathleen (Kay) Dillon of Greenock, Scotland. Father of Kathleen (Joel Moffie), Nora (Jean Desforges), Jim (Lorraine Syme) and Gordon (Judy Steele). Grandfather of Tiffany, Kimberly, Todd, Michael, Leigh, James, Danielle, Joseph and John Eric. Greatgrandfather of Veronica and Jocelyn.

passed away suddenly at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Pointe Claire, Quebec April 12, 2001 in his eighty-fifth year.

Mr. Byrd served with the R.C.N.V.R. during WWII, and was an officer for 23 years with the Beaconsfield Police Department and later with the M.U.C.

The visitation will be at the Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd, Dollard-des-Ormeaux (514-685-3344), on Thursday , April 19, 2001, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at St. Edmund of Canterbury Church, Beaconsfield, on Friday, April 20, 2001 at 11 a.m. Donations in memory of Mr. Byrd to the St. Edmund of Canterbury Church would be appreciated.

Paul Joseph Taylor
August 14, 1963 - April 23, 2001

Peacefully in his sleep on April 23, 2001 at the age of 37 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto. Beloved son of Margaret Taylor, of Windsor and the late Raymond W. Taylor (1978).

Loving brother of Michael and his wife Marilyn Taylor, Ann Arbor of Michigan; Tom and his wife Claudia Taylor of Windsor; Robert J. Taylor and his wife Carol Burns of Boston Mass.; Cathy and her husband Bob Wilson of London; Martha and her husband Brian Sinasac of London; Bill and his wife Lisa Taylor of Thunder Bay; Peggy and her husband Frank Carlone of Mississauga; Julie and her husband Steve Dale of Toronto.

Uncle Paul will be sadly missed by nieces and nephews Sarah, Ryan, Rachel, Laura, Mark, Scott, Kearon, Adrian, Stephanie, David, Rae, Natalie, Nicole and Alexander. Paul will also be missed by his large supportive “Toronto Family”.

Following a Private Memorial Service there will be a Celebration of Paul’s Life at the Ramada Hotel 300 Jarvis Street on Saturday April 28, 2001 from 12 to 3 p.m. Paul’s family would like to thank his medical team and his friends for all there support. We appreciate donations and gifts of time to AIDS Organizations in your community.

Caroline Olesik (nee Sirey)
June 18, 1905 - April 22, 2001

Peacefully on April 22, 2001, in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Trofim.

Loving mother of Mary, David and mother-in-law of Rosa. Much loved grandmother of Nicolas and Jonathan. Also survived by many other relatives and dear friends across the country.

The visitation will take place at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd. Dollard des Ormeaux, Quebec, Canada (514-685-3344) on Tuesday, April 24 from 1:00-2:00 p.m., followed by a chapel service at 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Vancouver, B.C. Roberta Maxine Winslow (nee Chase)

Grandmother of Courtney Maxine and Alexander (Zander). Survived by her brother Murray Chase (Elsie), brother-in-law George Moore, many relatives and friends, especially Doris Moller from Germany.

Gordon 'Bud' Henry Trill

Gordon Henry “Bud”Trill (Retired manager from Victoria & Grey Trust Company, Belleville; Dedicated Rotarian; Longtime elder at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church) Of the Bridge Street Retirement Residence, Belleville, Ontario. At the Quinte Health Care Corporation-Belleville General on Sunday, May 6, 2001 in his 93rd year.

Beloved husband of the late Doris Ellen (Ney) Trill. Beloved son of the late Harry and Ethel Trill. Loving father of Diane Sule and her husband Mike of Belleville and Peter and his wife Verena of Burnaby, B.C. Loved by his grandchildren Helen Trill and David Trill of Burnaby. Predeceased by his sister Doris McPhee and brother Charles Trill. Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend visitation at the BURKE FUNERAL HOME (613-968-6968) 150 Church Street, Belleville on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 11, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Robert Anthony Guerriere
April 9, 1938 - May 5, 2001

Our family sadly announces the death of “Dr. Bob”, age 62, at Princess Margaret Hospital after a long, courageous battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Beloved husband and soulmate of Geraldine (Armstrong) and devoted father of Michael, Alisa (Jeffrey) Abbott, Denise (Michael) O’Rourke, Stephen and Joanna. Proud and caring grandfather of Brooke and Erin. Loving brother of John and Pauline (Jim) Fife and the late Raymond. He will be sadly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Robert will also be lovingly remembered by his in-laws Doris, Bill, Tony, Jenny and Stuart. All of us will forever cherish his love of cooking, passion for music, talent as a musician and marvelous sense of humour.

Dr. Guerriere was recently named Professor Emeritus at Ryerson University after a long and distinguished career. A devoted teacher and researcher, he provided leadership as Chair of Math, Physics and Computer Science, Director of the Office of Research, and Chair of Biology, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Dedicated to achieving Ryerson’s vision for applied education and research, he worked tirelessly with students and faculty to help them achieve their full potential. He saw his lifelong aspirations for Ryerson realized when it was granted University status.

Friends may call at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street (South of Wellesley Street) on Tuesday from 5-9 pm and Wednesday 1-4 pm, and 6-9 pm. Funeral mass at Holy Name Church (Danforth at Gough) on Thursday at 11 am. Interment Holy Cross cemetery. You are welcome to sign the Book of Visitation at www.obituariestoday.com.

A memorial scholarship fund is being established at Ryerson in his name. In lieu of flowers, donations to the fund will remember Dr. Guerriere’s contribution to Ryerson in perpetuity. Contributions can be made through Rose Jackson at 416-979-5000 x6605.

The family deeply appreciates the compassionate care, commitment and professionalism of the staff at University Health Network who supported Robert physically and emotionally through his illness.

Delphine Gloria Mary Followes (nee Williams)
February 25, 1936 - May 2, 2001

Followes, Delphine Gloria Mary (nee Williams) 65 years on May 2, 2001 at Mt. Sinai Hospital after a brief illness with cancer. Beloved wife of Don Followes.

Loving mother of Michael; Claire; David and Kathleen Bush; Emma and fiancee David Black. Dear nanny of Lincoln. Dear sister of Godfrey and wife Diane Williams and John and wife Wendy Williams. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Mrs. Followes was a Library Technician and School Librarian for 20 years with the North York Board of Education. Her loved ones wish to thank the dedicated caregivers of Mt. Sinai Hospital, and a special thanks to the nurses and doctors of the critical care unit.

Friends may call at The Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home and Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Streeet (south of Wellesley) on Sunday May 6, 2001 from 5-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday May 7, 2001 at St. James Cathedral, 65 Church St. at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, and in honour of her brave battle with cancer and her love of music, donations to the St. James Cathedral Music Fund would be appreciated by the family.
