Gordon Stephen Hannis
September 01, 1921 - August 24, 2001
Funeral arrangements by
Cattel Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home

Peacefully and with dignity, at 3:50 pm on Friday August 24, 2001, Gordon Stephen Hannis, slipped from the loving arms of his family into the arms of Jesus.

Gord ("Whifter") was born in Dundas on September 1, 1921. A lifelong resident of Dundas, our Husband, Father and Poppa lived an exemplary life of caring and contribution. He has left his family to grieve their loss but also to lovingly cherish the many fine memories that he gave us. Gord was the loving husband of 49 years to Marjorie (Reptke). Father to Beverly McDonald and her husband George and Dawn Leng and her husband Mike. Wonderful Poppa and now Guardian Angel to Jenny and Graham McDonald and Crissie and Lauren Leng. Gord touched many other lives. He was the son of the late Fanny and Fred Hannis. Brother to Dalton Hannis (late Marjorie), the late Isobel and Jack Hood and the late Fred Hannis (late Nellie and the late Dorothy). He was brother-in-law of Pearl Brown (late Joe), the late Elmer Reptke, the late Doris and Elmer Wieland and to Laverne Reptke. Gord also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews.

Gord cherished the memories of his two best friends, the late Joe Brown and the late Alf Elkin. He was deeply involved in the Dundas and Hamilton bowling leagues in his younger years and was timekeeper for the Lacrosse team. He was a long-time and proud worker of Seldon Printing Ltd. where he was held in high esteem. Gord was always a man strong in his faith and was the selfless, dedicated servant and verger of St. James’ Anglican Church for many years. He was the recipient of many awards including the first recipient of the Order of Niagara given by the Bishop of the Diocese of Niagara. He was also the recipient of the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada given by the Governor General of Canada and was awarded The Certificate of Merit given by the Government of Canada on recognition of his contribution to society. In the eyes of many he was larger than life. He live a simple, uncompromising life that was consistent with the virtues he taught his family: of faith, hope and love. The greatest gift he gave us and leaves with us now is love. Everyone is welcome and invited to share the love we all have for Gord at a Memorial Service celebrating his life, to be held at St. James’ Anglican Church, 137 Melville Street, Dundas, on Thursday, August 30 at 2:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, Gord would have appreciated donations to the St. James’ Memorial Fund. Arrangements by Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, Dundas, 905-628-6412.

And just at the moment when someone says ‘He’s gone,’ there are other eyes watching for his coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout ‘Here he comes!’
