ZAMIN, Jenny (nee Eugenia Sciarrone) (Veroni) - Jenny died peacefully, on September 25, 2002, at Mount Sinai Hospital, of heart failure, following a brief illness, 88 years of age. Born in Guelph, Ontario, on June 9, 1914, Jenny trained as a hairdresser in Toronto at a young age and became a talented stylist who ran her own salon in Guelph for 18 years until she married Martin Zamin in 1947 and moved with him to Orillia, Ont., where they lived in an architecturally unique white stucco bungalow at the corner of Laclie and North Streets. Together they ran the town's first antique business until Martin became the first realtor and mortgage broker in Orillia. Martin died in 1968. Jenny had continued to "freelance" as a hairdresser for friends and neighbours and was also an employee of the Ontario Hospital in Orillia for a number of years before retiring in 1978. Jenny sold the family home in 1981 and moved to The Sutton Place Hotel, in Toronto to be closer to her daughter, Gloria and son-in-law, Gene. As a well-known resident of the hotel for over 20 years she became a familiar friend and fixture to the hotel staff. She continued her hobby - exquisite baking - and many of the staff, especially Joe the Doorman, were often the lucky recipients of her date squares or freshly made carrot cake. Jenny continued to live at the Hotel through December 2001, when Gloria and Gene moved her into her own beautiful private apartment in their lovely home in the Beach in Toronto. Jenny leaves her loving daughter, Gloria Maria Zamin and son-in-law, Gene Anthony Mascardelli; two grandchildren, Carol Lynn Mascardelli of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. and Mrs. Teia Eager of South Africa and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Ava Jordan, as well as her only surviving sibling, her older sister, Theresa De Barr, formerly of Detroit, Michigan and also her beloved niece, Mary Silvestro and son Michael Silvestro, both of Guelph; as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout Ontario.
