Gloria Goodhew
Gloria Goodhew, 75, of Stratford died at the Stratford General Hospital on Feb. 2, 2009. She was born in Stratford, a daughter of the late Henry Naylor and the former Hazel Crawford. Gloria worked at Prestonia as a machine operator until her retirement. She is survived by her children Tom Goodhew (Emily), Phill Goodhew, Dan Goodhew (Leona) and Cindy Williamson (Hank). Besides her parents she was predeceased by her son Stephen Goodhew. A funeral service was held at W.G. Young Funeral Home on Feb. 5.
Brenda Joyce Jackson
Brenda Joyce Jackson (nee Seebach), 57, died on Jan. 26, 2009. She was a mom, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin and co-worker. She is survived by her children Laurie Jackson Smith (Brad) of Waterloo and Heidi Jackson Lantz (Chad) of Stratford. A funeral service was held at W.G. Young Funeral Home on Jan. 31.
Catherine Malcolm
Catherine Derene (Cathie) Malcolm (Hamilton), 65, of 94 Woods St. died after a battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease at the Stratford General Hospital on Jan. 31, 2009. She was born in Parry Sound on April 12, 1943, daughter of the late Josephine and Everitt Hamilton. She lived in North Bay and moved to Stratford in 1971 with her husband. She retired in April 2008 after over 25 years with the Perth County Board of Education, operations department. Her greatest enjoyment was the monthly potluck suppers with her family and travelling all over Southwestern Ontario to see her two grandsons play hockey. She is survived by her children Darlene Middleton (Steve) of Stratford, Rhonda Zimmer (Kevin) of Windsor, Jenny Malcolm of Kitchener, Mark Malcolm (Leanne) of Sherwood Park, Alta., John Malcolm (Judy) of Edmonton, Alta., Sandy Loghrin (John Sherritt) of Kitchener and Kim Raycraft (Don) of Stratford. She was predeceased by her son Wesley. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday.
Shelley Ann
(Whaling) McKichan
Shelley Ann (Whaling) McKichan, 40, died at Victoria Hospital in London on Jan. 31, 2009. She was the daughter of Eugene and Mary Whaling of Stratford. She is survived by her children Courtney McKichan and her boyfriend Raymond Wheeler and Cameron McKichan. Also survived by her children’s father Michael McKichan. A funeral service will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Rd. N, London on Friday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. Interment in Woodland cemetery. Local arrangements by W.G. Young Funeral Home.
Isabella Odbert
Isabella Gibb Odbert, 99, died on Jan. 24, 2009 at Spruce Lodge. She was the daughter of John (Jack) Gibb Aitcheson and Elizabeth (Bessie) Wood of Downie Township. She was the wife of the late W. Harry Odbert. She was very involved in golfing, curling and bowling. She was an avid sports fan, watching hockey and baseball on TV. In later years, she enjoyed bridge, euchre, canasta, reading, crossword puzzles and socializing. She was a longtime member of Central United Church and the Stratford Golf and Country Club. She is survived by her children Lorraine Campbell of Toronto and Elizabeth Pilon and her husband Pierre of Calgary. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law Warren Campbell. A private family service was held on Jan. 30 at the W.G. Young Funeral Home.
Sarah (Johnston) Wolfe
Sarah Lynn (Johnston) Wolfe, 34, of Stratford died suddenly on Jan. 30, 2009. She was born in Stratford, a daughter of Lorne Johnston and the late MaryLynn Johnston. She was a selfless, patient and caring person and her gentle and loving nature was felt by all who knew and loved her. Her children and her family were her life. She was the wife of Tim Wolfe. She is survived by her children Owen, Emily and Ellie. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday. Interment in Avondale cemetery.
Jean Glaab
Jean Elizabeth Glaab, 76, of Cawston Street, died at the London Health Sciences Centre on Jan. 25, 2009. She was born in Stratford, a daughter of the late James Wilton and the former Jenny-Mae Patterson and lived most of her life here. She was employed as a Red Cross homemaker for 20 years and had volunteered at the House of Blessing and the Friendship Meals. She was an active member of Jubilee Christian Fellowship. She was the wife of Donald M. Glaab, who predeceased her in 2002. She is survived by her children Michael Glaab and his wife Nancy, Mark Glaab and his wife Anita, Paul Glaab and his wife Helen, Matt Glaab and his wife Jacqui and Christine Pauli and her husband Dan. A memorial service was held at Jubilee Christian Fellowship on Jan. 29. Arrangements by W.G. Young Funeral Home.
Rocco Iacobellis
Rocco Iacobellis, 84, of Stratford died at the Stratford General Hospital on Jan. 24, 2009. He emigrated from Italy in 1952 and worked in construction before a 21-year career at Fram Canada. He will be remembered as a committed family man and an avid gardener. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Domenica (nee Lavacca) and his children Frank (Rose), Vito (Mary Lynn), Joe (Cathy) and Tony (Lorianne) Iacobellis. He was predeceased by his parents Francesco and Santa (nee Ceo). A funeral mass was celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church on Wednesday. Interment in Avondale cemetery. Arrangements by W.G. Young Funeral Home.
Ella Payne
Ella Ruth Payne, 93, of Stratford and formerly of Chatham, died at Spruce Lodge on Jan. 21, 2009. She was born in Stratford, a daughter of the late William and Gertrude Mallion. She was predeceased by her first husband John Welch and her second husband John Payne. She was also predeceased by her children Shirley, Betty and Bill. She is survived by her grandchildren. A funeral service was held at W.G. Young Funeral Home on Jan. 24. Interment in New Maple Leaf cemetery in Chatham.
Elizabeth Polley
Gertrude Elizabeth (Lyb) Polley, 90, died on Jan. 21, 2009 at Cedarcroft Place. She was born in Stratford, the daughter of the late Gertrude Agnes (Pearn) and Frederick McTavish. She was predeceased by her husband Victor Polley in 1995. She joined St. James Church as a young woman to keep an eye on the handsome tenor in the choir and they were married for 54 years. She was a founding member of Group 4, a member of the Chancel Guild and volunteered on the ward at the North York Hospital during the years that she and Vic lived in Toronto. She was a member of the BBC bridge club. She is survived by her children Sue Coburn and her husband Neil “Pal” of Waterloo, Nora Polley of Stratford, Margaret Shaw and her husband David of Calgary and David and his wife Susanne of Sudbury. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Janice Polley Miller and her husband Lorne Miller of Calgary. A service was held at St. James Church on Tuesday. Arrangements by W.G. Young Funeral Home.
John David Bradshaw
John David Bradshaw 78, died on Jan. 13, 2009. A native of Stratford, he was the son of the late Harold Bradshaw and the former Vina Kastner. He was the third generation of J.L. Bradshaw Ltd. and owner of Watson’s Chelsea Bazaar. He was heavily involved in local politics for many years with Stratford City Council and the Stratford School Board. Twice he ran as the Liberal candidate in federal elections. His doting presence will be missed by his cats and dogs. He is survived by his partner Judy Hopf and her son Eric Hopf and his daughters Lisa Bradshaw and Carole Rowe and her husband Todd. He is also survived by Lisa and Carole’s mother, Joan Bradshaw. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by W.G. Young Funeral Home.
John Beirnes
John Robert Beirnes, 74, of Mitchell and formerly of Stratford and Lucknow, died at the Stratford General Hospital on Jan. 20, 2009. He was born in Bruce County, the son of the late Howard and Elizabeth Beirnes. He had been employed at Switzers in Stratford for a number of years. He is survived by his children Doug Beirnes and his wife Rena of Stratford, Randy Beirnes of Stratford and Dennis Beirnes and partner Theresa Daniels of St. Thomas. Relatives and friends may call at the Heinbuck Funeral home on Friday, Jan. 23 from noon until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Avondale cemetery.
