Bernadette Bridget Tarnowsky
February 1, 1958 - September 22, 2010

Tarnowsky, Bernadette (nee Misters) - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, daughter and sister, Bernadette Bridget Tarnowsky on September 22, 2010, following a lengthy illness. Bernadette was born in Newall, England, on February 1, 1958 to John and Imelda Misters and came to Canada with her family in 1966. After graduating from Sir Sanford Fleming College with a degree in Fish & Wildlife Biology, Bernie moved to Edmonton, Alberta to pursue her career. There she met and married Emil Tarnowsky in 1992. The couple resided in Edmonton and Calgary before moving to Ontario in 1997. Bernie was an avid motorcyclist, scuba diver, dabbled in growing orchids and enjoyed plays and musicals. She loved animals and always had her pets at her side, most recently her sheltie Louis with whom she won numerous agility awards. Her career was dedicated to industrial surveying while in Alberta, working on numerous petrochemical construction projects. In Ontario, Bernie worked at the Ontario Power Generation Darlington Nuclear Plant in the Tritium Recovery Facility until her illness. A devout adherent of the Roman Catholic faith, Bernadette is survived by her father John Misters and his wife Marjorie of Belleville, sister Marian of Toronto, brother Fred and his wife Anita and their children, Sean and Sarah of Moira, husband Emil Tarnowsky of Cobourg and his children, Adam, Tamara and Breanne of Vancouver along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Canada and in Great Britain. She was predeceased by her mother Imelda in 1990. Our Bid (Bernadette’s nickname) touched the lives of many who remember her as a vibrant, generous and loving person who would give of herself and fight for the cause of those who couldn’t, especially animals. She lived life to the fullest, and despite leaving us at the early age of 52, managed to squeeze in more than a lifetime of memories for those she leaves behind. God has gained another angel in Heaven while we continue working to that day when we can reunite with her and our families in His presence. She will be sorely missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 27 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Cobourg, with Father Andrew officiating. Reception following at Columbus Community Centre. Private cremation to follow. Visitation will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg on Sunday, September 26 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Canada.
