Harold Alguire

Surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2003, in his 79th year, after a long courageous battle with cancer. 36 years of loyal Public Service with Canada Post, Museum of Civilization, and RCAF veteran of 27 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Purley (Nixon), devoted and loving father to son Darryl (Elizabeth Rutherford), son Jack (predeceased), son Bruce, daughter Lori (Tom Cleverdon); cherished grandfather of Ryan (Cleverdon), Kelly (Cleverdon), and Laura (Alguire). Predeceased by parents Ernest and Alice Alguire of Cornwall, brothers William and Arnold, and sister Helen (McGregor). Survived by dear sister Edith (Neil Cummings of Madison, Georgia). Surrounded by a loving circle of relatives and friends. A special thank you to DVA, community care providers, and the Cancer Centre for their endless, devoted support and care. For those who wish, donations to the Cancer Centre would be appreciated. Family will receive relatives and friends at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road, (at Aviation Parkway), Ottawa on Saturday, August 2nd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Sunday, August 3rd at 1 p.m. Private cremation and interment to follow.

Beverly Angus Anderson - 07/28/2003
MBE (W01 Retired)

Quietly at home on July 26, 2003 at 85 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Jocelyn (nee Jo Newell) for nearly 55 years. Loving father of Brian (Zheng), Ross (Carolyn), Susan (Mark Dickinson), and Keith (Phyllis Cross). Doting grandfather of Sara Anderson, Lars and Dayne Anderson, and Michael Lobban. Predeceased by his parents, Horace Pratt and Mamie Anderson (nee Ryan), and his brother Gerald (Lois Anderson). Bev had a distinguished military career in the Canadian Army from 1938 to 1964. He was awarded numerous medals, including the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of extremely valuable services, as well as a Citation in Orders and subsequent Award of a Royal Humane Society Parchment by HRH The Duke of Gloucester for gallantly saving a drowning boy's life in the Grand Canal at Greenford, Middlesex. Bev was personal secretary to AGL (Andrew) McNaughton, General Officer Commanding, Headquarters 1st Canadian Division 1939-40. After WWII, Bev held numerous positions, including working at the Staff College in Kingston. After leaving the army, Bev was the insurance administrator for the Union of National Defense Employees (UNDE) until his retirement in 1983. Bev was active in sports, including hockey and golf. (He played defense for the Canadian Army team during WWII). He coached in the Carlingwood Little League. As a qualified CAHA Referee, he officiated in Bel Air Park hockey leagues. He was a member at Hylands Golf Club for the last 30 odd years. Bev was involved with various community groups, including the 89th Boy Scout Group Committee and Red Feather. He was an active member and fundraiser at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church for many years. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road on Monday, July 28, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until Service time in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment Pinecrest cemetery. Reception following interment at the West Chapel. A gift to the Palliative Care Outreach Program, 1455 Woodroffe Ave S, Nepean, ON K2G 1W1 in Bev's memory would be appreciated by the family.

Martha Elisabeth Anderson (nee Shepherd) - 07/30/2003

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Martha Anderson, aged 79 years on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 in Ottawa. Survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Donald G. Anderson; children Heather (Murray) Kinnear, Sara (Philip) Ellis-Berman, Karen Anderson and special friends Joseph Cull and Ian Engelberg. Devoted grandmother to Lara, Stacey, Scott, Tolmie and Sydney and great-grandchildren Chloe and Ethan. Loving aunt of Dale Bryan and David Shepherd, sister-in-law of Rhoda Shepherd and Frank Anderson (the late Joyce). Martha was born and raised in the Kingston area and predeceased by her parents Earl and Flora Shepherd, daughter Joy Anderson and brother Bill Shepherd. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Thursday, July 31, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Mary Assaly

passed away peacefully at her home in Ottawa, July 24, 2003. Beloved wife of the late Ernest W. Assaly. Loving mother to Linda Assaly and the late Richard E. Assaly. Grandmother to Vanessa, Nicholas, Austin, Sabrina and Bradley. She is also survived by her brother George (Edna Assaly) as well as her daughter-in-law Shirley Assaly and sister-in-law Jeanette Assaly, and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by her brothers Mike, Joe and sister Olga. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter and Paul Melkite Greek Catholic Church, 1161 River Road, Ottawa, on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Pinecrest cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Breast Cancer Society or to the Ernest W. Assaly Nephrology Endowment Fund. Wm. Ross Chamberlain

Peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2003, at age 90. Husband of the late Mary Fairbairn Torrance. Beloved father of Lynn (Peter Lonstrup), Janice (Robin Porter), Michael (Nancy) and Deborah Rosenlund. Dearly loved grandpa of Elizabeth, Michael, Kyle, Richard, Kristina, Susie, David, Julia and Cameron and great-grandpa of Noah, Max, and Kennedy. He was a member of the late Royal Canadian Dragoons and served with IV Princess Louise Dragoon Guards during WWII. Before his retirement from the Carleton Board of Education in 1978 he was Head of Guidance at Merivale High School, he was also a member of Council at Manotick United Church, a Youth Education Officer and the long-time Secretary of Branch 314 Royal Canadian Legion and founder and Past-President of Rideau Seniors. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry. Those wishing may make donations to a charity of their choice.

Emirance Chateauvert (nee Levesque) - 07/23/2003

Peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at the age of 87. Dearly beloved wife of the late Albert. Dear mother of Constance (Aurele), Guy (Claudette), Gerry (Suzanne), Marcel (Denise) and Claude. Dear sister of Ernest. Also loved by her 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several friends. Peacefully in Ottawa on July 24, 2003 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Suzanne. Cherished brother of Yvonne, Christiane, Antoinette, Sister Mary Joseph (Madeleine) Albert, Godelieve, Monique and his brother-in-law Jacques. He also leaves behind his adopted children, Marie-Pierre, Xavier, Jean-Francois, Dominique; his grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Paul was born in Bruges, Belgium after an important period of twenty years in L'Abbaye de Maredsous, he emigrated to Canada in 1964. He was a teacher in Ste-Therese-de-Blainville, in Matagami, in Farnham, in Touraine (St-Alexandre College) and in Ottawa (Lycee Claudel and Ottawa University). As well as being a teacher he was an expert in UNESCO in Africa. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday, July 30th, 2003 from 1 p.m. until service time in the Chapel at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Society of Ottawa would be appreciated by the family.

Mac passed away very suddenly early Sunday, July 27, 2003. Mac was the dearly beloved husband and best friend of "Phyl" Phyllis Mary (Milne). Cherished father of Heather Esdon (Douglas West), Barbara (Robert McCue) and Scott (Heather Strong). Very special Grandpa to Christopher West, Nicholas McCue, Andrew Esdon and Ryan Esdon. Brother-in-law of Joyce Mueller and Gordon Milne. Son of the late A. Herbert and Belle Esdon of Cornwall. Brother of the late W. Stuart Esdon of Napanee, ON and the late R. Russell Esdon of Vancouver, BC. Mac also filled the role of special cousin and uncle. He was a highly respected teacher and later Principal with the Ottawa Public School Board from 1951 to 1984. Willing volunteer and helper in the community, a devoted and active member of Southminster United Church, good neighbour and enthusiastic member of the Navy Curling Club. Many will miss his kindness, caring, generosity of spirit and great sense of humour. Mac and Phyl celebrated their Golden Anniversary earlier this month. Long-time friend of Greg McKiel. Bill was the Director General of the Information Technology Services Directorate of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, where he had worked for twenty- eight years. A funeral service will be held at the Church of St. Barnabus (corner of Kent and James Streets in Ottawa) on Tuesday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church. Private burial. Illman, Dr. William Irwin

Peacefully at the Glebe Centre, Ottawa on Friday, July 25, 2003 at age 82 years. Loving husband to Wanda, father to Beth, Nancy and Meg and sons-in-law Bob and David. Grandfather to Cynthia, Rachel, Rebekah, Miriam and Sean and great-grandfather to Lucie, Lawrence, Edwina, Madelaine and Amy. Bill was a Professor of Botany at Carleton University and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.. Margaret "Peggy" (nee Hibberd) Johnson - 07/30/2003

Peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at age 91. Beloved wife of the late Edward. Loving mother of John, Deborah (Miles Thompson), Stephen (Mary) and Peter Brown. Grandmother of Emily, Andrew, Owen, Ben, Nicholas and Drew. Survived by her brothers George, Ernest and Ted; sisters Isabel McWilliams and Audrey Boyd, as well as many nieces and nephews. Peggy was born and raised in Ottawa and was a long-time member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, 1606 Fisher Avenue, Ottawa, on Friday, August 1, 2003 at 10am. Reception in the Church Hall to follow Interment at Capital Memorial Gardens. Donations to St. Mark's Anglican Church would be appreciated.
