Died peacefully in her sleep in her 92nd year at St. Patrick's Home, Friday February 3, 2006. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, 27 March 1914, the daughter of Maurice and Elizabeth Joyce. Predeceased by her husband, Commander Robert Francis, R.C.N., her son, John Frederick and her sister, Honora, (Sister John Elizabeth). She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Wendy and granddaughters Deirdre and Moira; by her son David and his wife Sandy and granddaughter Sabrina and grandson Peter; by her daughter-in-law Jacqueline and grandson Christopher and granddaughter Nikola. A women of many talents and determination she had almost to the end a drive for life that touched all who knew her. Tenacious in her love of family and friends, a part of her heart always stayed in Nova Scotia. She loved water, sun and wind whether at Hubbards or at Sand Bay on the Ottawa, or on the balcony at St. Patrick's. A potter of distinction, she taught ceramics for many years in the Ottawa school system. She was lovingly tended in her last years by the caregivers at St. Patrick's, and the family extends its great gratitude to them. Born May 1, 1937, in Norquay, Saskatchewan, third son of the late Courtney Leigh Tower and Hope Taylor. Beloved husband of Mary Jane. Dearest father of Johanna (Carleton Place), Michael and David (Ottawa); and dearest stepfather of Ellie (Veneto, Italy) and Thomas (Ottawa). Grandfather of Jeffrey and Bill, and great-grandfather of his special Lauren. Cherished brother of Hope (Edmonton), Courtney (Ottawa), Beverley (Norquay), Diana (Spruce Grove, Albeta) and Cecilia (Edson, Alberta). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 21st, 2006 in his 79th year with his wife at his side following a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband and best friend of Margaret (Wood) for 58 years. Proud and loving father of Susan, Nancy, Robert (Lori) and Kathleen. Loved and cherished by grandchildren Shawna (Bryce Vincent), Ryan, Kelsey, Braden and Mallory. Lovingly remembered by brother Gary (Sandra) of North Bay, many nieces and nephews, life long friend Don Lewis, and family and friends. Predeceased by parents Orrin and Adeline, brother Orrin Jr. and sister Betty. Roy retired from the Ottawa Police as Staff Inspector after 37 years of service. He subsequently began a new venture and for 18 years operated Gilwood Engravers. Roy was a dedicated 32nd Degree Mason for 53 years and active until his illness. He was a Past Master of Ashlar Lodge and Luxor Daylight Lodge and D.D.G.M., District 2, in 1995 and will be missed by many Masonic friends. Roy was a member of Tunis Temple Shrine and the Scottish Rite. Died suddenly on Saturday 18 February 2006 at the age of 54. Marsha will be eternally missed by her husband Michael and her beloved children, Piper (Eri), Meredith, Ramsay, and Noah. She also leaves her grand-daughter, our precious Poppy, and her very dear sister, Joey Church (Geoff) of Picton. Marsha was the daughter of Bill Newton, who died in 1987, and Marni (née Van Norman), who died in 2004. Marsha will also be sorely missed by her parents-in-law, Ronald and Jean Jackson, her sisters-in-law, Judy and Gillian Jackson, and her brother-in-law, Peter Jackson (MaryAnne) and their children, Stewart and Emily, all of Toronto. After getting her MA from Carleton University, where she studied English, Marsha went to Loyola College in Baltimore to earn her MEd. She then began an immensely fulfilling career as a teacher at Bishop Hamilton Montessori School in Orleans and Ottawa. She loved her students and they her. Never having lost her sense of wonder and curiosity, Marsha had a profoundly special way with children. Marsha was hugely well read, and we were on the way to the Alta Vista library when she died. We will miss her so very, very much.
