VanDUN - Geraldine “Gerrie” VanDun (nee Bens) of Petrolia passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in her 56th year at Blue Water Health Palliative Care, on Friday, January 14, 2005 with her family by her side. Cherished wife of Joseph for 36 years. Beloved mother of Joanne and Steven Percy and Linda and Andrew Chwiecko. Loving Oma to her grandchildren Cierra, Aidan, Jayna, Ryan and our special angel in Heaven Nathan. Geraldine was the proud owner and operator of “21 Shell and Variety” of Petrolia for over 28 years. Born in Estevan Saskatchewan in 1949. Parents Wilhemina and the late John Bens. Sisters Nellie and Bill Lerch, Tina and Leo Verberne and brothers Henry and Janis Bens and John and Harriet Bens. Will be sadly missed by her father and mother-in-law John and Elizabeth VanDun and their family as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Surrounded by the love of her family, it is with our deepest sorrow the we announce the death of our dearest NADINE ANNE SOPER, RN, (nee Miller)(Huff)(Shortt), of Sarnia and formerly of Oil Springs, on Wednesday, May 19, 2004. Grandma spent the last few months of her life at Bluewater Health and it was from there that she left us. She had an immense will to live and she will be deeply missed by all, Nadine was born July 23, 1920 to the late Douglas and Nell Miller. Beloved wife of Joe Soper and the late Garnet Shortt (1990). Precious mother of Pat and Bill Massie, Robb and Carol Huff all of Petrolia and Randy and Dianne Shortt of Oil Springs. Treasured grandmother Lisa McMurphy and Stewart Clarke of Petrolia, Cindy and Dave Herr of St. Thomas, Jeff Sutherland and Kim Wilson of London, Deanna Huff of Petrolia, Mike Huff of Sarnia and Steven and Melissa Shortt both of Oil Springs. After graduating from the Chatham Public General Hospital Nursing School she served as a Lieutenant Nursing Sister in the Royal Canadian Army. From there she worked with one the great passions of her life “nursing sick children” as St. Joseph’s Hospital is Sarnia. She ended her career on Petrolia working many happy years at Lambton Twilight Haven as director of the nursing staff. She will be remembered by her grandchildren for sleep-overs at her house and for having us brush her hair. She will be remembered by all for her love of the sun, her love of family and for her sense of humor.
