ANTOINE, Dwight “Ike“ - passed away suddenly at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Friday, January 19, 2007 at 63 years of age. Dwight will be sadly missed by his daughter, Stacey (Patrick) Thompson and grandsons Joel and James, all of St. Catharines. He leaves behind his long time companion, Evelyn Hunter, her mom Margaret, sons, Edward, John and Brad and granddaughter, Ireland Hunter. Predeceased by Dustyn Hunter (2000). He will be dearly missed by his surviving siblings (all 15 children born in Moulinette (Long Sioux) Ontario). “Ike“ truly enjoyed the years he worked in maintenance at Hillebrand Winery and was highly thought of by his co-workers. BATTEL, Anne (Colli) (1914-2007) - It is with joy that we pass the soul of our mother into the hands of her Redeemer, however sorry we may be for our loss. She joins her loving husband Henry (1961), dear son Edward (1951), parents Fedele and Teresa, brothers James, his wife Flo, Albert (Bud), his wife Nina and her sister-in-law Constance. She will be deeply missed by her children, Anna Marie Crossan of Montreal, Charles (Mary) of St. Catharines, grandchildren Renee Crossan, Claire (Stephane) Simondi, Megan Battel, her great grandchildren Lucca and Siena Simondi and her brother Leonard Colli. Her nieces and nephews will miss their Auntie Annie's warm hospitality. Anne was not only our matriarch, but also our kind, giving and devoted friend. She worked 14 years at General Motors and then 10 years at Linhaven, retiring in 1979. She served as an example of devout Christianity, humbly fulfilling her role as sacristan, choir participant and 60 year member of the CWL at St. Alfred's Parish. She leaves many friends and relatives to join others on a journey she described as being, a wonderful journey, because no one has ever returned. Lawrence Arthur (Laurie) Ferguson
FERGUSON, Lawrence Arthur (Laurie) - passed away suddenly at his winter home in Gulf Shores, Alabama on Saturday, January 20th , 2007 in his 78th year. Laurie is survived by his wife Connie (Eaid) and his children, Lesley Botte of Adamstown, Pennsylvania, Linda and her husband Doug Gowanlock of Port Elgin, Barry Ferguson and his wife Angela of Waterloo, and Karen and her husband Tony Alberts of Port Elgin. Also left to mourn are grandchildren Natasha Alberts, Andy Gowanlock, Stephanie Alberts, Patrick Ferguson and Ted Ferguson. Laurie started his career at Dow Chemical in Sarnia and moved to Port Elgin in 1965 to work as a First Operator in the Douglas Point Power Station. Working at the Douglas Point station until it closed, Laurie retired from Bruce B in 1990. On retirement Laurie and Connie moved to their beloved cottage at Johnston's Harbour and Laurie spent the summers building lawns, gardens and entertaining guests and friends. When winter came and most of Johnston's Harbour went south, Laurie went too, and spent the winter golfing, shopping for “deals” at used book stores, and enjoying “happy hour” in Gulf Shores. Friends may call at the W. KENT MILROY PORT ELGIN CHAPEL, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, January 27th. A funeral service to celebrate Laurie's life will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Margaret Greenhow officiating.
