DAMIANO, Alfonso - It is with great sadness the family of Alfonso Damiano announce his passing on Monday, February 26, 2007 at the St. Catharines General Hospital-NHS in his 91st year. Dear beloved husband of the late Maria Grazia (DiSanto). Cherished father of Angela (Vincent) Evangelista and Libby (Sisto) Scappaticci. Loving Nonno of John (Sherry), Robert (Susan), Andrew (Margaret), David (Ines), Alana and Andrea. Loving Nonnino of Rose Marie, Grace, Sophia, Luke and Maria. Predeceased by his sisters Francesca, Incoronata, Matilda and his brothers John, Nick and Anthony. Alfonso was born in Guardia Lombardi, Avellino, Italy. He served in World War II and immigrated to Canada in February 26, 1952. Alfonso is resting at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines until Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Alfred's Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Vigil prayers for Alfonso on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. In accordance to his wishes, cremation will follow the service with a private family inurnment at Victoria Lawn cemetery at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Canadian Blood Services would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to the staff of Henley House for their love and support for the past three and a half years

Russell Frederick Rychard

RYCHARD, Russell Frederick - passed away peacefully at his residence, after a long courageous struggle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family on Monday February 26, 2007 at the age of 55. Cherished son of Agnes and the late Frederick Rychard. Beloved husband of Marie (Lafreniere-Hamerton) Rychard. Dearly loved father of James Rychard of Burlington and Angela Rychard of Niagara Falls and step-father of Jackie (David) Holditch of Welland, Mark (Kim) Hamerton and Stacey Hamerton of Niagara Falls. Dear step-grandfather of Sara and Alicia Hamerton, Alexandra and Jacob Holditch. Dear brother of Brian (Lorraine) Rychard. He will be sadly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, especially Michael and Chantal and friends. Friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. visiting Tuesday 2-4 pm , 7-9 pm and Wednesday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of his life will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date in Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill. In memory of Russell donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated by his family.

D. John Frank Goertzen

GOERTZEN, D. John Frank - Of Vineland, beloved husband of Lena Goertzen, was embraced by his Saviour, peacefully, in his sleep, March 1, 2007, in his 79th year. married in Vineland to his sweetheart Lena, for almost 56 years. John is the father of Nick and Dorothy Hamm, Don and Wendy Goertzen, Ken and Marie Goertzen, and Cliff and Carolyn Odell. He is the grandfather of Jen and Scott Konkle, Jeremy and Jess Hamm, Andrea Goertzen, Kyle Goertzen, Jesse Goertzen, Angela Goertzen, Becky Odell, Ron Odell. He is the great grandfather of Eben Konkle and Sofia and Nicholas Reimer Hamm. He is also the brother of Frank Goertzen, BC, Ed and Nancy Goertzen, Oshawa, Peter and Hilda Peters, Elsie Loveman, Vic and Doreen Goertzen and Kay Gortson, Vineland. Brother in law of Jake and Frieda Friesen, Frank and Tina Goertzen, Susie Friesen, Walt and Lil Friesen, Henry and Justina Cornies. Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Maria Goertzen, and oldest brother Ernie Gortson. Uncle Johnny was also loved by many, many nieces and nephews, cousins and a large circle of friends. John worked for 35 years at General Motors, and was retired 22 years March 1st. He enjoyed his retirement years living up north in Sundridge for several years before moving back to Niagara to be close to family. His passion was music and sharing this gift with others was a source of great joy. He was part of the early movement bringing Bluegrass music to this area and was known for his love of singing and playing for others. In these later years, he and Lena provided the music for services in many area senior homes and ministered faithfully. His love of both people and music shone through all that he did. His enthusiastic approach to life was encouraging to everyone he met. Singing in the Niagara Community Male Chorus, playing with the Reeds, early days with the Original Lincoln County Peachpickers, right up to most recently sharing the stage with his grandson in concert. He was an inspiration to many. Having a special relationship with each grandchild was especially important to him. He was a member of Vineland United Mennonite Church since 1949 and worshipped there faithfully. The family will receive friends at the VINELAND CHAPEL of the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOMES, 3277 King St. on Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-8:30 pm. Funeral Service will be held at the Vineland United Mennonite Church on Monday, March 5th at 1:30 pm. Memorial donations to Gideon Bibles or the charity of your choice will be appreciated by the family.

Dr. John Fergus Grehan

GREHAN, Dr. John Fergus - After a brief illness on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at St. Catharines General Hospital. Beloved husband of Rita. Loving father of Frances and Keith Walsh, Dermot and Deanna, Eileen and Brian Freel, Patrick, dear grandpa of Keith Jr., Maureen, Julie, Dillon, Claire, Shea and Leah. Dr. Grehan was a General Practitioner for 45 years in St. Catharines and a longtime Rotarian. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in St. Denis Church on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Pleasantview Memorial Gardens will take place at a later date. Memorial Remembrances can be made to a charity of your choice.

Rolande Patricia Marie-Anne Walsh

WALSH, Rolande Patricia Marie-Anne - After a lengthy illness, at the St.Catharines General Hospital on Monday, February 26, 2007, Rolande Walsh, aged 83 years. Predeceased by her husband and soul mate for 50 years, the late Gerry Walsh (January 1, 1996). Dear mother of Gerry and his wife Pat of Ottawa, Bryan and his wife Jill of Calgary, Karen and her husband Peter Twardawa of Beamsville, Bob and his wife Michelle of Edmonton, Steve and his wife Chantale of Beamsville. Also survived by grandchildren Mark Walsh and his wife Jen , Ryan Walsh, Karla Walsh, Jason Twardawa and wife Lyndsay Blain and Trevor Twardawa and his wife Siobhan Lazeo, Christopher and Brittany Walsh, Ashley and Bryce Walsh and great grandson Jackson Walsh. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Helen's Church, 4156 Maple Grove Road, Vineland on Friday, March 2nd at 10 am. If desired memorial donations may be made to West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation or the United Mennonite Home. Special thanks to Myrna White, Dr. R. Richard Wills

WILLS, Richard “Dick” Brenchley – Of Welland, at the Welland County General Hospital on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, in his 79th year. Cherished husband, for 43 years, to Lois, nee Russell. Beloved father of Susan Napper (Jeff) of Welland and David Wills (Dina) of Toronto. Loved grandfather of Raymond & Todd Napper and Matthew & Simon Wills. Dearest brother of Tom Wills (Claire) of Avon, Connecticut and Mary Locke (Reginald) of Kingston. Also survived by a number of nieces & nephews. Predeceased by his parents Harry & Mayme Wills. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Wills came to Canada in 1940 and Welland in 1964. He was a chartered accountant for some 50 years retiring in 1994. Mr. Wills was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of Welland, a former Board member of the Welland Hospital Foundation, a member & Trustee of Wesley United Church and a former Commander of the Port Colborne Power & Sail Squadron. Mr. Wills had a great love of sailing which would find him in his spare time sailing “Practically Moving” and then “Rag Bag” on the Great Lakes or The North Channel as well as in the British Virgin Islands. Friends are invited to visit the family on Friday, March 2nd from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the H. L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland. Reverend Kim Wright will conduct a memorial service at Wesley United Church, 244 First Avenue, Welland on Saturday, March 3rd at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception at Wesley-Robins. Survived by her three sisters Blanche Carluccio, Rita Presse and Toni Howerton. Predeceased by 5 of her siblings - Henry, Pat, Roy, Lena and Shirley Ann. Sadly missed by her loyal friend Bailey. Also surviving are uncles Mark Clare (Lisa), Kevin Clare (Joanna), Raymond Ladouceur (Sue) and Shawn Babin and aunts Tonya Williams (Tom) and Andrea Spiridi (Tony), along with several great aunts, uncles and cousins. Krystle graduated from Centennial High School and had worked at Tim Horton's ( St. Charles Plaza ). She was most recently employed by Convergy's Ltd. The family will receive friends at the H.L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Monday, October 2, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Reverend George Schmidt will conduct a funeral service in the Cudney Chapel on Tuesday October 3, 2006 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Fonthill cemetery .
