BERES, Nicholas James - It is with great sorrow that Cathy Beres announces the death of her son Nick (age 27), on April 20 at his home. Nick is , predeceased by his father David (April 13, 2006), survived by his mother Cathy, grandmother Lil Dupont of Elliot Lake and grandparents Louis and Irene Beres of Hanmer. He will truly be missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Nick was born, raised and lived in Elliot Lake. There will be cremation, no service and interment at a later date. Funeral arrangemants entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services.

Roger Fowlston

FOWLSTON, Roger - We have lost a gentle good man, Roger Fowlston. Born the 23rd of August 1932, he left us the 18th of April 2007 in Blind River, Ontario. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wives Lois and Doreen, his son Lesley, the large Fowlston family and the many friends he made in Blind River and Toronto throughout his life. JACQUES, Isidore Joseph - passed away on April 18th, 2007 at the Sault Area Hospital, Plummer Site. Beloved husband of Claire Jacques (nee Miron) of Blind River and loving father of Donald (Connie) of Blind River, Ronald of Sioux Lookout, Dennis (Aline), Marcel (Kim) of Blind River, Jerry (Jo- Anne) of North Bay and Terry of Sudbury. Dear grandfather of Rebekah (Reg), Jamie, Matthew, Jason, Natalie, Destiny, Jessica, Justin, Aimee and step-grandfather of Stephanie, Jason, Michelle, Tammy, Shawna, Gage and Amber. Dear great grandfather of Isabella, Micah and step-great grandfather of Briannna, Drake and Hunter. Also survived by one brother, Leo Jacques (Ruth) of Blind River and numerous nephews and nieces. Friends were received at the Menard Funeral Home in Blind River,Friday afternoon & evening and the funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday April 21st., 2007 at 10:00 a.m. from St. James The Greater Parish with Father Jim Ketzler officiating. Interment in Hillside cemetery , Blind River. Memorial contributions to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.

JOHNSON, Gregory Leslie - Peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Sunday March 4, 2007 at the age 54. Beloved husband of Sandra Johnson (nee Vance) for 30 years. Father of Samantha (Shane Felhaber), Melissa and Curtis. Grandfather of Alex, Melissa B. and Margaret. Son of Doris (Jay Demsys) and the late Leslie Johnson. Brother of Gary (Cathy),Ricky, Debra and Kevin (Shannon). There will be a celebration of Greg's life held at the Spanish Marina Complex on Saturday May 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Mount Calvery cemetery. SMALLWOOD, Randy - Suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, April 17th, 2007, Randy Smallwood of London in his 44th year. Loving husband and best friend of Valerie (Winchester) Smallwood. “Bestest daddy in the whole wide world“ of Jeffery (Lindsay), Chris and Jessica-Lauren. Beloved son of Marg and Charlie Smallwood, and beloved son-in-law of Jill Winchester. Dear brother of Greg (Susan) Smallwood, and brother-in-law of Carol (John Cook) Winchester.Dear uncle of Sabrina, Bryden, Megan and Chelsea. Visitation was held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London where the funeral service was conducted on Saturday, April 21st, 2007. Private family interment in Mount Pleasant cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Randy are asked to consider the Brain Aneurysm.

VIEL, Aimé - passed away peacefully at the Blind River District Health Centre on Wednesday April 18, 2007 at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Lisa Viel of Blind River. Loving father of Léo Viel (Annette) of Blind River, Gisèle Hinse (Paul) of Iron Bridge, Lucie Veil of Blind River, Aline Gagnon (Gérald) of Algoma Mills, René Viel (Donna) of Blind River and Rose Viel of Thunder Bay. Dear grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of 2. Dear brother of Jeannette Fournier of Blind River and Noëlla Fournier (Camille) of Sturgeon Fallls. Pre-deceased by sister Rita Morin (Roméo) of Notre-Dame-du- Lac, Québec and Rose Fournier. Will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass celebrating Aimé's life will be held on Saturday April 21, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from Paroisse Ste. Famille. Father Jim Ketzler and Sister Bernadette officiating. Interment in Hillside cemetery , Blind River. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. James (Jimmy) McBride Borland

BORLAND, James (Jimmy) McBride - Sept. 28, 1936 - April 19, 2007 Jimmy Borland of Niagara Falls Canada & formerly of Govanhill Glasgow, Scotland passed away peacefully at 9 a.m. on April 19th at the Waterford Regional Hospital, Ardkeen, Co. Waterford Ireland. He leaves behind, his loving wife and friend Margaret, son James (Elizabeth) Borland, daughter Marcelline (late Gerald) O'Neill, and grandsons Michael (Julia) O'Neill, Kevin (Tania) O'Neill, Patrick and Luke O'Neill. He is also survived by nieces and nephews in Shawlands Glasgow, Scotland. Prior to immigrating to Canada from Scotland in 1972 Jimmy attended Adelphi High School, and then worked as a welder in Fairfields and John Brown shipyards. In Glasgow he was a season ticket holder of his beloved Glasgow Rangers and a brother of Pollokshaws Royal Arch Lodge No. 153. He spent many years volunteering with the Niagara Falls Soccer Club. In Canada he worked as a welder with Port Wellar Dry Docks, Norton Company and the Carborundum. He was immensely involved in soccer. In 1981 he won an Ontario Cup Champions Medal with the Boone's Dionnes of the Niagara Falls Soccer Club. He is a member of the Niagara Falls Wall of Fame, for his achievement as a coach. James McBride Borland was cremated on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Island Crematorium on Rocky Island, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork, Ireland in a private service. Farewell, to a kind and gentle soul, we love you. Borland and O'Neill Families.

Lucy Anne Dalicandro

DALICANDRO, Lucy Anne - Peacefully, at her home in Thorold, on Tuesday, April 24th 2007 in her 83rd year. Beloved sister of Eleanor (Mario) Galliera of Thorold and Tom (Cathy) Dalicandro of Guelph, and sister-in-law of Jean Dalicandro and Earl Williamson both of Thorold. Lucy was predeceased by her parents Vincenzo (1969) and Mary (Veri) (1990), brothers Domenic (1985) (Rose 1987), Emilio (2005) and sister Rosalie Williamson (2001). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Lucy worked in British Columbia as a registered nurse and was also on staff with the Victorian Order of Nurses. She spent 28 years at the Montreal Neurological Hospital and retired in 1990. Lucy was an extensive traveler, enjoyed painting, weaving, bird watching and was an accomplished photographer. The family will receive friends at the HAMMOND FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Vigil Prayers with the CWL present will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 3:00 pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church (21 Queen St. S., Thorold) on Friday, April 27th at 10:00 am. Rite of Committal at Lakeview cemetery , Thorold. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Dorothy Orma (nee Thornham) Earle

EARLE, Dorothy Orma (nee Thornham) - Peacefully at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Burlington on Monday, April 23, 2007, Dorothy Earle of Burlington in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Norman Earle. Loved mother of Fraser of Mississauga, Basil and his wife Diane of North Bay and Peter of Burlington. Cherished grandmother of Melissa, Stephanie and the late Fraser Jr. Dear sister of Jack Thornham and his late wife Florena. Remembered by her nieces, nephews, all family members and her many dear friends. A truly special person, Dorothy embraced life and everyone around her. She gave of herself always. The family invite friends to join with them for a Service of Remembrance and Celebration to be held at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation. Ida Gale

GALE, Ida (nee Bonazza) – On Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Niagara Falls General Hospital, our beloved Mom passed away in her 88th year. Beloved wife of Bob Gale Sr, she was the loving Mom of Keith (Janice), Barb, Dave (Jeanne) and Bob (Vera).This remarkably selfless and loving angel will be sadly missed by grandchildren, Lee (Amy), Shannon, Jessica (Ed), Angela, Bobby, Tucker (Leslie), Hunter, Cutter, and great- grandchildren Elizabeth, Catherine and Aurora. One of nine children of Paul and Victoria Bonazza, Mom is survived by sisters Dell Nichols and Fanny Fedrizzi, and brother Roy (Gertrude) Bonazza. Cremation has taken place, and at a later date, there will be a private gathering of the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Niagara General Hospital Foundation. We will always cherish Mom's hugs and kisses, and will miss them dearly.

Alexander Howard

HOWARD, Alexander - Surrounded by his family, on Sunday, April 22nd, 2007 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Margaret (nee Stewart) for 63 years. Loved father of James (Brenda), Alexander, Marilyn (John) Jackson and Janice. Dear grandpa of Melanie (Nathan), James, Erin (Jason), Hillary, Ashley and Dylan. Great grandfather of Jocelyn, Emily and Daniel. Alexander was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the Royal Air Force. He was a Volunteer Firefighter with Protection Hose Company #1 and was employed with Fraser Paper Company for 28 years before retiring in 1981. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the HAMMOND FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Friday, April 27th from 7:00-9:00pm. A private Graveside Service will be held at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Kornelia (Nellie) Huibers

HUIBERS, Kornelia (Nellie) - With a deep and profound sense of loss after a long, brave and courageous battle with cancer, the most precious and cherished person in our life has gone to Heaven shortly after her 75th birthday. Rev 21:4; He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore. She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband Wilhelmus (Bill) of 53 years. Cherished mother and loving Oma to Theresa and Paul Groot and their girls Shannon, Kristin and Courtney, Vera Huibers and Richard Grenier, Diane and Jack Scholtens and their girls Sierra and Emily, Bill and Anne Huibers and their sons Jason and Ryan, Ken and Cindy Huibers and their girls Katelyn and Lindsay, Randy Huibers and Joyce D'Angelis and their sons Matthew and Ryan. Nellie's family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the MORSE & SON CHAPEL of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES, 5917 Main Street. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the funeral home on Friday morning at 10:30. Interment will follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Tender Wishes Foundation or to St. Elizabeth Homecare Foundation. Special thanks to Tracy Earick for her compassion and dedication in caring for our mother.

Edna Coles

COLES, Edna – Of Welland, at the St. Catharines General Hospital, with family by her bedside, following a courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, April 23, 2007, in her 77th year. Cherished wife for 59 years of the late Kenneth Coles (October 2006). Beloved mother of Ken Coles (Janice), Karen Tuttle and Glen Coles. Loving grandmother of Karen (Gord), Kimberly (Toby), Chris, Dianne (David) and Matthew. Loved great-grandmother of Marissa, Abigail & Benjamin and godson Matthew Travis. Dear sister of George Steers (Betty), Douglas Steers (Henrietta), Allan Steers (Frankie), David Steers (Doreen), Florence Lundy, Carol Travis (Sam), Sharon Beauvais (Paul) and Elaine Burns (Perry). Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents George & Florence Steers, a brother William Steers, brother-in-law Donald Lundy and niece Lindsay Travis. Born in Welland, Mrs. Coles remained a lifelong resident of the city. She was employed as a registered nursing assistant for some 29 years at the Welland Hospital retiring in 1992. As well, she assisted her husband in running Kingsway Bowling Lanes in Welland for twenty-five years. Friends are invited to visit at the H. L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Thursday, April 26 from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. Pastor Donna Totten will conduct the funeral service in the Cudney Chapel on Friday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. with interment following in Woodlawn cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be deeply appreciated by the family.

CRAWFORD, Fraser Earl - of Port Colborne passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday April 24, 2007 at the Port Colborne General Hospital at the age of 53 years. He is survived by his loving children Travis Crawford and Nadine Crawford (Matthew Proulx) and their mother Mary Francine Crawford. Dear brother of Kyle Crawford (Sally), Dwight Crawford (Julia) and Randy Crawford (Debbie), dear uncle of Christine, Tammy, Lorraine, Deanna, Wade, Jeffery, Keith and Jake. He will be also be sadly missed by his special step-children Myranda and Stacey. He will be sadly missed by all his loving family and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Earl and Mildred Crawford. The Crawford family will receive friends at the PORT COLBORNE CHAPEL of the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOMES 135 Clarence St. on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held in the Chapel on Friday April 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Steven Davis Officiating. KAY, John R. - passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 24, 2007 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 64. Predeceased by his wife Sandy. Dear spouse of Sandra. Loving father of Leslie (Tim) Bigelow and Louise (Chris) Wilson. Adored grandfather of Kaylee, Christopher, Nicholas, Joshua and Emma. Brother of Pat (Jim) Edwards of England. Predeceased by his brother Mac Kay. Grateful friend of Bill W. for over 2 years. John worked for over 20 years at CanEng until his retirement. He was the past district officer of the Kinsmen. John's family will receive friends at the MORSE & SON CHAPEL of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES 5917 Main Street, on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held at the funeral home on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Cremation will follow. A private family interment will take place at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens at a later date. For those who wish memorial donations may be made to Trillium Life Network.

TAYLOR, Florence - Florence Taylor- MacGowan, of Welland, suddenly at the Welland County General Hospital on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, in her 89th year. Cherished wife of Colin MacGowan and the late Wray Taylor. Beloved mother of Marshall Armstrong (Joanne) of London, Deborah McCulloch (Robert) of Peterborough, Gerald Taylor (Xiaoling) of Ridgeville, Evan Taylor (Suzette) of Fonthill and Lorene Taylor (Quentin Docherty) of Meaford. Loving grandmother of Kelley, Lianne, Alison, Ryan, Corinna, Stacie, Jeannette, Shanshan, Quillan, Teegan and Lieran. Loved great-grandmother of Julia, Alexander, Marcus & Marshall, Justin, Ian and Emily. Dear sister-in-law of Eileen Taylor, Anne Gates, Douglas Armstrong and Harold Gates. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and her daughter-in- law Oral Armstrong. Predeceased by her first husband John Armstrong (WW II), son Duane Taylor, one sister and two brothers. Born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Florence came to Welland in 1946. In 1991 she moved to New Minas, Nova Scotia, returning to Welland in late 2006. Florence was an active member of First Baptist Church and a member of Cornwallis Baptist Church, Nova Scotia. As well, she was a former member of Lookout Point Golf & Country Club. Friends are invited to visit at the H. L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Friday, April 27 from 7 - 9 p.m. Reverend Glen Barrett will conduct the funeral service in the Cudney Chapel on Saturday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m. with interment following in Fonthill cemetery.
