At the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Ottawa, on Sunday August 10th 2003 while in his fifth year. Joshua Boyd Orton, beloved son of Peter & Leslie Orton of Callander. Joshua will be lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters Peter (Nadine), Mindy, Shannon, Becky, Lucas, Gregory and Faith, his step- brother Richard and step - sister Melanie. Dear grandson of Matthew and Edna Wesley of Moose Factory, Stella Orton of Callander and the late Kim Orton. It is with great sadness that the parents of Neil Lafontaine wish to announce his birth and death on Saturday August 16, 2003. Suddenly at the North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site on Monday August 18, 2003. Dear wife of the late Robert McIntyre. Loving mother of Ruth McIntyre (Frank Fonseca) of North Bay, Michael of North Bay, Bruce of Brampton and Peter also of North Bay. Sadly missed by her granddaughter Taylor. Survived by her sister Anita Burton of North Bay, brother-in-law Dennis McIntyre of Calgary and sisters-in-law Inez McIntyre and Joyce Kerr both of North Bay.

DESCHAMPS - Jacqueline Jane 'Jackie'
Died tragically in her 58th year at North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site on Friday August 22, 2003. Loving mother of 4, Jacquline will be sadly missed by her children Fred Deschamps (wife Tina) of Michigan, Steven Deschamps (wife Jaqueline) of Oklahoma, Donna Deschamps (Robert Etches) of North Bay, and Sandra Deschamps of North Bay. Lovingly remembered by her ten grandchildren Crystal, Jessica, Lynn, Rebecca, Samantha, Kelly, Shelby, Joshua, Dieven, Desiree, and one great-grandchild to be born later this year. Cherished aunt of Kristie Pearce and her two sons. Devoted sister of Clark Pearce, Donald Pearce (wife Janet) and John Pearce (wife Helen). Predeceased by her mother Florence Pearce and brother Russell Pearce. Jackie will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed for her many acts of kindness, generosity, and devotion to her friends and family throughout her life.

FOREMAN - MARGARET MARIE
After a lengthy illness, surrounded by family on Monday, August 25, 2003 in her 78th year. Dear wife of the late Harold Foreman. Loving mother of Barry (Susan) of North Bay, Laurie Steiss (Jessie) of North Bay and Susan Foreman (Gerard) of Toronto. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Katie, Justin, Pamela, Brian, Jeffery, Steven, Julia and Chelsea. Predeceased by her parents Walter and Elsie Geauvreau. Survived by her brothers and sisters Betty, Douglas, Wesley (Edith), Marion, Marvin (Sharon), Violet (Bud), Frank (Jane) and Nancy. Also missed by many nieces and nephews, especially John.

GIDDENS - James Douglas "Jim”
Died at the North Bay General Hospital – McLaren Site, on Sunday, August 31, 2003, in his 87th year. Jim was the beloved husband of Eleanor, loving father of Jamie, Mark, Paul and his wife Angela, all of North Bay, Greg and his wife Laura of Thunder Bay, and predeceased by his son David. Lovingly remembered by his grandsons Tanner and Adam. Predeceased by first wife Ruth. Loving father of Darlene of New York and Gary of Kitchener. Predeceased by his siblings Nelda, Mabel, Dick, John and Ronald. During the Second World War, Jim piloted a Wellington Bomber with the Royal Air Force. On May 8th, 1942 his plane was shot down over Denmark. He spent nearly 3 years in POW camps and was liberated by British troops in April of 1945. Jim was born and raised in Nova Scotia, lived in North Bay since 1951, and was a long time member of the RCAF 406 Wing of North Bay. Jim’s family will receive friends at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Tuesday evening from 7 – 9 PM and Wednesday from 2:00 PM until time for services in the Funeral Home Chapel at 3:30 PM. Interment to follow at the Forest Lawn cemetery.

SAARI - Ossie
passed away peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital - Scollard Site, on Thursday August 28, 2003. Much loved husband of Dorla Saari (nee Nicholson). Dear father of Judi Suraci ( husband Frank) of Mississauga, Donna Feradi of Calgary, Jeff of Kimberly, British Columbia and very special niece Linda Nummela also of Calgary. Lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren Michael, Jana, Steven, Jeffery, Shawna and Zoe. Predeceased by his infant son Erik and sisters Toini Nummela and Raili Spencer. Ossie was a veteran of World War 11, serving in the RCNVR. He was employed with the ONR for 45 years, retiring as Director of Purchasing in 1986. Ossie was a member of the Rotary Club of North Bay, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23, as well as the North Bay Cardiac Fitness Club. Visitation will be held in the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) today from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion will have a Memorial Service in the Funeral Home on Saturday evening at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conduct by Reverend Gerry Slote, in the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday August 31st, at 3:30 PM. Cremation to follow the service.

ENGSTROM, - David
With sadness we announce the death of David Engstrom, peacefully on Tuesday August 26, 2003 at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of Freda. Dear father of Karen Strickland (Bill) of Sussex, New Brunswick, Andrea (Ron Leuchter) of Santa Monica, California, John (Irene) of Restoule, Elvie of Freemont, California, Charlene (Thierry Boyer) of Wakefield, Quebec, Valerie Smith (Tom) of Niagara Falls, Rudy (Jim Hayward) of Toronto and Carrie Thibault (Robert) of Warren. Sadly missed by grandchildren Jeremie, Sarah, Tyson, Lyndsey, Jason, Teagan, Zackery and Nicholas and great grandchild Matthieu. Loving brother of Elvie Bauman and Inez Porteus. Predeceased by brothers Gordon, James, Paul and Joseph. David was born in 1918 to Gustav and Hulda Engstrom and in 1942 he married Freda Storm. He is a WWII veteran of the RCAF and after the war went to work for Falconbridge. In 1982 he retired from Falconbridge after 25 years service. David has been a very active member of his community and is well respected by all who knew him. Among other interests David enjoyed gardening and the produce from his garden has fed many people over the years. He has enjoyed his past 20 years of retirement at the family farm. A memorial service will be held at the Golden Age Hall in Warren on Friday at 11 am.

BALDWIN - Dr. James Campbell
At his home surrounded by his family on Friday September 5, 2003. Dr. James Campbell Baldwin, beloved husband of Olive Grimm, in his 86th year. Dear father of Brian James and his wife Melba of North Bay and Lorelei Binczak of Oakville. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Chris Skellern, David & Cynthia Lachapelle, Jonathon and Jennifer Baldwin and Joshua Binczak, and three great grandchildren Lisa and Stephenie Morris and Brooke Lachapelle. Predeceased by his daughter Lynn Lachapelle, his brother Dr. Waring Willis and his sister Florence Fullerton. A former resident of Scarsdale, New York City and Toronto Dr. Baldwin was born and raised in North Bay and received his early education here. He graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1943. During the War he served in the navy as a Surgeon Lieutenant. Following the war he moved to New York City where he did post graduated studies in General and Thoracic surgery. He practiced Oncological and Thoracic Surgery at numerous hospitals including Doctor's Hospital in New York City and taught Thoracic Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University. When illness took him out of practice the Baldwins returned to Canada where Dr. Baldwin served as consultant and Area Planning Coordinator with the Ministry of Health. For a period of time, prior to his retirement, he served at the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital. Cremation has taken place at the Forest Lawn Crematorium (Tower Dr.). A memorial service to celebrate Dr. Baldwin's life will be held at St. Andrew's United Church at a later date.

IRWIN - Peter Maxwell
Born in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan December 23, 1912; died at North Bay, Ontario on February 8, 2002. Peter Maxwell Irwin, third of seven children of Albert and Mary Irwin died peacefully in the company of his family. Predeceased by his brothers Les, Bill and Joe and one sister Jean Abram; and survived by his sisters, Mary Britton and Isobel Waters, both of Regina, Saskatchewan. Peter, a quiet, gentle man with a wry sense of humor was highly regarded by all of those who were in contact with him socially and professionally throughout his 45 year career all with the Royal Bank of Canada. An accomplished athlete, Pete excelled in fastball and hockey in his youth, and later, curling and golf. Pete became well known in the North Bay area as one of the city's finest golfers with five "aces" during his long career. His passion of golf however paled with the adoration he had for his one and only true love, wife, Joan who passed away on March 26, 2001; and life was never the same without her. Left to rejoice in his memory are his children; son, Bill (Wife, Mary Lee) of North Bay, daughter, Pat Janota (Husband, George) of Belleville, and son, Scott (Wife Lana) of Dunmore, Alberta; nine grandchildren, Robin Irwin (Friend Brian Traub) of Edmonton, Alta, Jennifer Raoult (Husband Phil) of Orleans, and Stephen Irwin of Sudbury; Allison, Lindsay and Stacey Janota all of Belleville, Jaclyn Irwin of Victoria, BC, Logan McCuen of Regina, Saskatchewan and Cody McCuen of Dunmore, Alta; one-great grandson Will Raoult, and his soon-to-arrive brother, Gabriel Peter Raoult of Orleans. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Wendy Graham for her wonderful care of and compassion for this very special gentleman.
