KING - Joan
Died on Monday, February 03, 2003 at Leiesureworld Nursing Care Centre, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Joan King in her 70th year, was the beloved daughter of the late John and Elsie King, . Dearly loved niece of Clara (Mrs. Frank Addy), Mabel (Mrs. John Cordey) and Kathleen (Mrs. Harry Holmes) all of England. She will be sadly missed by her many friends in North Bay. Lovingly remembered by her cousin Phyllis Bates of Hamilton and many other cousins also of England. A lifelong resident of North Bay, Joan worked for Bell Canada for many years, retiring in 1987. Visitation will be held in Trinity United Church on Thursday, February 6th from 12noon until time for services in the sanctuary at 2:00 PM. Interment to follow in the family plot at Forest Lawn cemetery.

If desired, donations to the North Bay General Hospital Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.

McINTYRE - Ronald Gerald
Died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Monday, February 3, 2003. Ronald Gerald McIntyre, dearly beloved husband of Inez Ethel Currie, in his 77th year. Proud and loving father of John (Karen) of Newmarket & Nancy of North Bay. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Melanie, Cameron, Julia and Stephen. Dear brother of Joyce Kerr of North Bay and Dennis (Adele) of Calgary. Survived by his sister-in-law Lois. Predeceased by his parents Ben and Alice McIntyre, brother Robert & sister Dorothy. Ron was an engineer for the Ontario Northland Railway for over 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was also an active member of the Royal Canadian legion Br. # 23 and the Elks Lodge # 25. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Thursday from 2-4 & 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Friday at 11 am. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn cemetery.

If desired, donations to the VON or the Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.

CHETWYND - Ruth
Peacefully at Nipissing Manor Nursing Care Center on Friday February 7, 2003. Ruth, beloved wife of the late Stewart Woolley and the late Robert Chetwynd. Loving mother of Steve Woolley (Joyce), and Barbara Woolley. Dear grandmother of Jennifer Woolley, Erin Farquhar, Jason Mullen and Jana Labine. Great-grandmother of Liam Farquhar. Survived by her sisters Alma Griffin and Elaine Seguin. Predeceased by her brothers Alfie Holmes and John Holmes. Friends may call at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m.

A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. A donation to the Alzheimer's Society would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.

HOSKING - Lorraine
Peacefully at home on Thursday, February 6, 2003. Lorraine Gratton, was the beloved wife of Donald Hosking. Loving mother of Michael Dessrosiers (wife Meredith) of Cincinnati, OH and Jamie Dessrosiers (wife Erin) of North Bay. Dear stepmother of Trish Hosking, Gayle Hosking and Amy Hosking all of Toronto. She was the proud grandmother of Liam Dessrosiers. Survived by her siblings Denise Rice, Aurel Gratton, Gilles Gratton, Maurice Gratton, and Roger Gratton. Lorraine was well known in the Mining Industry, and served as past president for North Bay Big Sisters Association.

Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Sunday from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., and again on Monday, February 10th from 10 until time of service in the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment of ashes will follow at the Haileybury cemetery in the spring. A donation to the North Bay General Hospital Foundation or the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Research Center would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.

COOK - Edward
At North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site on Sunday February 9, 2003. Born June 9, 1928 in Callander. Beloved husband of Edith married December 13, 1952. Dear father of Richard (Peggy) of North Bay, John (Donna) of North Bay, Mary van Velthoven (Roger, predeceased) of Winchester, Deb Gagne (Russ) of North Bay, Joe (Dar) of North Bay and Jim (friend Cindy) of Guelph. Predeceased by his daughter Marilyn. Sadly missed by 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Dear brother of Myrtle Cook of London. Predeceased by his parents Mr and Mrs. Ignatius Cook, brothers William, Wilfred, Albert, Charlie and sisters Gertrude Cook and Nora Yerkie. Edward worked at the MTO for 34 years and retired in 1983. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME, (across from city hall), today from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Martyn Funeral Chapel on Wednesday February 12th, at 11:00 a.m. Spring interment in Terrace Lawn cemetery.

WILLIAMS (nee Somers) - Eunice
Suddenly at North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site on Tuesday February 18, 2003. Eunice Somers, beloved wife of Jim Williams in her 91st year. Loving mother of Billie-Marie Yakachuk (husband Edward), and Inez Torrance (husband Bruce). Dear grandmother of Christine Yakachuk, Daryl Torrance, Heather Swanson, and David Torrance; great-grandmother of four. Survived by her brother Grant Somers (wife Evelyn). She will be sadly missed by her cousin Dorcas Croghan and family, her niece Carol White (husband John) and family, and many other relatives and friends. Predeceased by her son Grant Williams, and siblings Mervyn, Blanche, Norman, Elvyn, and Lloyd.

Friends may call at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME, North Bay (across from City Hall) on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and again on Friday from 1-2 p.m. Funeral service will follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow with spring interment at Union cemetery. GRAY - CAMERON BRYAN 'Cam'
Suddenly at home on Thursday February 13, 2003 in his 60th year. Loving husband of Charlotte and father of Deborah (David), Cynthia (Glenn) and Katie all of Toronto and Cameron Jr. at home. Predeceased by his mother Helen. Survived by his father Dr. Cameron Gray, sisters Judy Boville and Maribeth Gray (Eric) and by his brother Ron (Virginia). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from city hall) on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Andrews United Church on Monday at 2 pm. Cremation at the Forest Lawn Crematorium. A celebration of Cameron B. Gray’s life will also be held at the Lawrence Park Community Church (2180 Bayview Av. Toronto) on Friday February 21, 2003 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the Rotary Foundation, Camp Hurontario (1 Ridge Drive Park, Toronto M4T 2E4) or the Dr. Cameron C. Gray Fellowship Fund, Ontario Thoracic Society (573 King St. E. Toronto M5A 4L3) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

DEKKER - Kenneth Edwin "Ken"
(Retired North Bay Firefighter) Suddenly at North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site on Thursday February 13, 2003 while in his 62nd year. Ken Dekker, beloved husband and partner of Trudy. Loving father of Holly Davidson and step-father of Tom McDonald (Catherine) and Ron Dekker. Proud and loving grandfather of Alexandra, Caitlyn, and Christopher. Survived by his siblings Dorothy Dechamplain (David), Karen Pearson (Greg), Peter Dekker (Julie), and Robert Dekker (Gladys). A dedicated husband and father Ken was an avid outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. A fireman at heart Ken began his thirty- year career with the North Bay Fire Department on September 25th, 1967. In 1991 he was promoted to the rank of Captain, and in 1995 became Platoon Chief. He was awarded the Fire Services Long Service Medal, 30 year bar, with the Exemplary Fire Services Medal, by the Ontario Fire Marshal. Ken retired from duty in November of 1997. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from city hall) on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Ken's life will be held in Trinity United Church, corner of Ferguson and McIntyre, on Monday February 17th, at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place at Forest Lawn Crematorium.

In lieu of flowers donations to the North Bay General Hospital Foundation Building Fund or the Burn Unit will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.

SYMONS - William Frederick "Bill"
At the North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site, on Saturday February 15, 2003, while in his 73rd year. William Frederick "Bill" Symons, beloved husband of Joyce "Joey" Manderson. Proud and loving father of Peter (Sharon) of Armstrong, B. C. and Scott (Shirley) of North Bay. Bill will be lovingly remembered by is grandchildren Kayla, Jacob, Katie, Ashley, Robert and Tyler and his great granddaughters Morgan and Keegan. Also survived by his brother Robert (Dorothy) and sister Marg Young (Mel) both of Redbridge and sister Betty Spankie of Abbotsford, B. C. Predeceased by his sister Dorothy Lyon. Long time residents of Derland Road, Callander, Bill & Joey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past October. An avid outdoorsman he especially enjoyed camping and hunting. For the past 30 years Bill was a dedicated member of Callander Branch #445 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Bill spent his working career as a truck driver, working for Motorways for many years, then on local deliveries. At his request cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Branch 445 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Callander, on Tuesday February 18th at 2:00 p.m.

WATSON - Sarah Lucy
At her home, North Bay on Saturday February 15th 2003, while in her 75th year. Sarah Lucy (nee Dool) was the beloved wife of the late George Watson. Survived by her sister Agnes Barone (Louis) of North Bay. Lovingly remembered by her stepdaughters Barbara Kingsley of Mississauga and Gina Ransbury (Murray) of Connaught, her several grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents the late Archibald and Lucy Dool, brothers Archie, David and John and sisters Annie St Amand and Jennie Leclerc. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME, (across from city hall) on Wednesday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Martyn Funeral Chapel on Thursday February 20th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in Pine Hills cemetery Scarborough.

KNOX - Donald Roy
passed away suddenly at the North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site on Saturday February 22, 2003. Beloved husband of 45 years to Shirley Knox. Dear father of Wesley (Tammy) of Rutherglen, Greg (April) of Hamilton Tracey (Dave) also of Hamilton and Douglas of North Bay and father-in-law of Angela. Dearly loved by grandchildren Ashley, Haley, William, Jordon, Jacob, Dymond, Oriana, Dustin, Alyssa and Connery. Beloved brother of Vera (Warren) Nelson and brother-in-law of Phyllis and Doug (predeceased) LaRose. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and friends. DECK - Sherman
passed away at the North Bay General Hospital – Scollard Site, on Wednesday, February 26, 2003, in his 89th year. Born in Cache Bay on August 26, 1914. Predeceased by his beloved wife Eleanor, his parents, James and Christine, brother James Jr. and sisters Edna, Marion and Iva. Sherman served in the R.C.A.F. during WW2 at several postings. He was employed for many years with the Geo.Gordon Lumber Co. in Cache Bay, in the sawmill as both a steam engineer and yard locomotive engineer. He also worked for a time with Abitibi Paper in Sturgeon Falls, E.B Eddy Co. in Ramsay, Ont., followed by employment at the Ontario Hospital North Bay as steam plant engineer and later in maintenance dept, from which he retired in 1979. Sherman will be fondly remembered by his relatives and fiends. An interment of ashes service will be held for at the Union cemetery in Sturgeon Falls, on Saturday, May 17th at 2:00 PM.

CARVELL - HAZEL
Suddenly, at North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site on Friday February 28th, 2003. Hazel was born July 14, 1918 in North Bay to the late Alfred Charles Pinkney and Ada Appleby. (both born in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England). She was the beloved wife of the late Melvin Carvell, in her 85th year. Hazel was loved and will be sadly missed by her sons; Gary, Brian (Dorothy), Greg (Kim), Mark (Monique), and Don (Pauline); her grandchildren; Carol, Maranda (Jason), Jessica, Patrick, Emily, Brittney, Matthew; great-grandchildren Haden & Julian Carvell-Tunney. Survived by her sister Rita Gaven, sister-in-law Audrey Pinkney and brother-in-law George Sluman. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her brothers Gord and Ray Pinkney, and sister Doreen Sluman. Hazel devoted her life to raising her five sons and spending many joyful hours with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Friends may call at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 -11 a.m. Funeral service will follow in the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

WORKMAN (nee (nee Semple)) - Margaret Eleanor
passed away at home on Thursday February 27, 2003. Marg was the beloved wife of Bill Workman and the treasured mother of Janet (Robert) Howey, Doug Workman (Erika) and Elizabeth Watanabe (Michiya). Dear grandmother of Jastin, Lisa, Jenna, Michael, Joshua, Isaac, Kagen and great grandmother of Kaleb and Rebekah. She was predeceased by her mother Janet, father James and brother Wesley. Also survived by her sister Muriel (Orville) as well as many nieces and nephews in both the Semple and Workman families. Margaret’s family will receive visitors at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from city hall) on Sunday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. and on Monday March 3rd, at Emanuel United Church, Lakeshore Dr., from 12 noon until time for services at 2:00 p.m. Cremation will follow at Forest Lawn Crematorium.
