HAFT, Florence - (1916-2007) - It is with sorrow that we announce the death of Florence Haft at the Sault Area Hospital on May 7, 2007. Dear wife of the late Vic Haft (1979). Loving mother of Mary Jane Persic (Silvio) and Bob Haft (Andrea). Devoted grandmother of Anthony Persic (Lily) and Andrea Wacker (Kevin). Dearest "Grandma- the-Great" of Jakob, Christopher and Drew Persic and Noah and Ariel Wacker. Sister of Fred Griffith (Marguerite), the late Eileen Hormavirta (late Jorma) and the late Carl Griffith (late Bessie). Sister-in-law of Col. David Weisman (late Carol) and the late Shirley Goldman. Dear aunt of Louise Stephens (John and son Matthew Min), Matthew Griffith (Brigitte), Kathleen Griffith, Patti Cole (Don), Michael Weisman (Dana) and many great nieces and nephews. Special friend of Nancy and Doug Hazzard and Marg Franklin. The family sincerely thanks Drs. Rossi and Piscopo for their many years of care. Thanks also to the devoted and caring staff of the Palliative Care Unit. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 2 pm at St. Luke's Anglican Cathedral with interment following at the columbarium. Rev. Mal Binks officiating. Beloved mother of Brian (Marcia), Keith (Sally), Christopher (Leslie), Gary (Debbie), and Alan (Lynn). Loved grandmother of Andrew, Emilie, Darren, Alex, Victoria, Ryan, Timothy, Denton, Garren, Dustin, and Evan. Marie is also survived by her great grandchildren Nolan and Gabriel, and several nieces & nephews. Marie is the sister of Joseph (Annette), and the late Gerald (late Doris), Helen, Francis (late Cloris), Norbert, and Arlene. WDOWIAK, Krystyna - With much sorrow Teresa Slewidge (Ken) and Wanda Sutton announce the passing of our beloved mother Krystyna Wdowiak on the 7th of May 2007 in her 88th year. Krystyna was the loving wife of our late father Edmund, who passed away nearly one year ago. Together they were very proud Babcia and Dziadzo to Sean (Sasha), Brian (Chantal) and Alan Sutton (Vanessa), Michael and Stephanie Slewidge. Krystyna was born on September 28th 1919, in Wlodzimierzec Poland. She was the daughter of the late Maksymilian and the late Bronislawa Gil (Kaminski). Dearest sister to Irena (Walter) Witkowski, late Tania Turowski (late Antoni), late Wladyslaw Gil and the late Jerzy Gil. She is survived by her loving sister-in-law, Eleonora Gil. Krystyna is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome to the ARTHUR FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTRE on Friday, May 11th from 6-9 pm. Helen Lily (nee Lazuric) Anaka

ANAKA, Helen Lily (nee Lazuric) - In loving memory of Helen Lily Anaka (nee Lazuric), 93 years, who passed away peacefully Sunday, May 6th at her daughter's residence. Helen was born in Montreal and married Fred Anaka in 1933 in Montreal. Helen came to the Sudbury area in 1936 from Kirkland Lake. An accomplished seamstress she owned and operated Helena Fashion Salon specializing in wedding finery. She also assisted Trudy Manchester in organizing local fashion shows. Always quick to help others Helen had been a member of the original St. Joseph's Hospital Women Auxiliary. She was a member of the United Church of Canada. She will be remembered as an excellent gourmet cook. Helen loved life and she was a "people person". She generously shared her wonderful smile and easily made friends. The light of her life brightened all she met. She was devoted to her loving family taking great pride and interest in their activities and accomplishments. Beloved wife of Fred Anaka, predeceased 1999. Loving mother of Angela Kyle (husband Keith) of Lively. Cherished grandmother of David (Haven) and Paul (Sharon) both of Sudbury, Kathryn (Bob Painchaud) of K.S.A. and Christin (Jeremy Guild) of Vancouver; great grandchildren David, Lauren and Ward Kyle, and Robert Painchaud. Rolly Matheson

MATHESON, Rolly 1925-2007 - The family announces with great sadness his passing on May 5th, 2007 at the Timmins and District Hospital. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Liz Feldman of Timmins and Donna Matheson (Blair) of London, and 3 wonderful grandchildren, T.J., Paige and Brett, who always brought a smile to his face. Also survived by 2 brothers, Ray and Harry both of Nova Scotia and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Muriel Matheson, as well as 9 brothers and sisters. Rolly moved to South Porcupine in 1946 for new beginnings. He worked at the Dome Mine for 43 years until retirement. He was an active member of the Volunteer Fire Department. During his retired years, he volunteered tirelessly at Porcupine General Chronic Care Facility and the Timmins and District Hospital Chronic Care Unit. Rolly was a veteran of World War II, and was an active member of the Legion his entire life. He took great pride in his volunteer work and devoted countless hours to Remembrance Day Services, fundraising and ensuring that our local veteran's needs were met. Somebody once said that they wondered how he did up the buttons on his shirt - and when asked what they meant, the reply was. . . His heart is so big, they didn't know how he got his shirt to go around it Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Timmins and District Hospital Equipment Fund or the South Porcupine Legion made through the Funeral Home will be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Dear mother of Adrian Fortner, Nicholas Fortner, and Anne Marie Fortner. Predeceased by parents Alfonso and Maria Grazia (Radochia) Creato. Franca taught French in London and Middlesex County for over 35 years, and was known to many as Madame Fortner. Franca was a long time member of St. John the Divine Roman Catholic Parish, Brescia College Alumni Association, the C.W.L. and the London Parents of Twins Club. Cherished grandfather of Mathew Howie (Trista), Blake Howie, Katie Howie, Tammy Zavitz (Mark), Dana Kinchen (Steve), James Guise (Devon), Jennifer Spence, Karrie Shea (Jonathan), Jon Spence and Samantha Disley. Great grandfather of Zachary and Brooke Zavitz and Jayden and Teaghan Kinchen. Mr Spence is survived by his brother Art Spence (Late Nancy) of Elmvale, Royena Campbell (Jack) of Orangeville and by his sister-in-law Lil Ruddy of Timmins. Predeceased by his parents Elbridge and Jessie Spence, by his brothers Jack Spence (Mildred) of Staynor and Alec Spence (Barb) of Elmvale. Bill was a Veteran of WWII (Navy), a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 88, a member of the Schumacher Seniors Club, he enjoyed playing cards hunting, fishing and spending time at the cottage at Kenogamissi. He also worked at the MacIntyre Mine for 25 years and as a Custodian at Schumacher Public School for 15 years. Bill enjoyed watching hockey and was a big fan of the Montreal Canadiens. A funeral service will be held on Thursday May 10, 2007 at 11 am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Judith Perry officiating. Interment will follow at the Timmins Memorial cemetery. Ms. Jones served as the Dean of Nursing with the University of Toronto, consulted in post graduate nursing with Turku University in Finland and served as an elder with St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. TAYLOR, Brian - Suddenly on May 5, 2007 at the age of 51. Brian Taylor of Toronto and formerly of Owen Sound. Loving father of Michael of Owen Sound and grandfather of Rhys. Son of Earl and Rena Taylor of Owen Sound. Brother of Paul (Kathie) and Terry (Nancy) both of Owen Sound. Uncle of Amanda and Casey. Predeceased by his brother Gary. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Mount Pleasant cemetery on Friday, May 11, 2007 at 2 p.m. Rev. Ted Creen officiating. Dorothy Rothwell

ROTHWELL, Dorothy - 1928-2007 - Gone home with the Lord, Dorothy Rothwell passed away on Monday May 7, 2007 at the Sudbury Memorial Hospital, at the age of 78 years. Beloved wife of William Rothwell of Elliot Lake. Loving mother of Marlayne Miner (Dale) of South Porcupine, Lyle Rothwell of Toronto, Stella Taylor (David) of Chilliwack, B.C., Korry Rothwell (Kelli) of Brandon, Manitoba and MacLaren Rothwell (Sandra) of Cambridge. Dear grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her sister Greta Fowler (late Kevin) of Wawa. Predeceased by her parents Stanley and Annie, by her brothers Leonard, Wesley, Lloyd, Norman and by her sister Helen. Dorothy was born and raised in Timmins and had been a resident of Elliot Lake for approximately 25 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, she loved animals and most importantly, spending time with her family. A funeral service will be held on Friday May 11, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at the Timmins Memorial cemetery. Remembrance donations made to the Salvation Army will be greatly appreciated. The family will receive friends on Friday May 11 from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral at MAISON FUNÉRAIRE LESSARD-STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME, 705-268-4488.
