Sonia Sarah Viner - 07/25/2003

eacefully at her home, with dignity, on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, aged 92 years. Beloved wife of the late Arthur L. Viner and dear mother of Gladys Greenberg (John) and Walter Viner (Elaine). Loving grandmother of Bruce Greenberg (Nadine), Pamela Ravek (Oded), Karen Zunder (Ian), Melissa Greenberg-Springer (Michael), Kevin Viner (Michele), Marla-Beth Rosen (Gregg), Nancy Viner and Jillian Aberman (Jordan). Predeceased by sisters Rachel Jewett (David) and Edith Cherun (Alex). Survived by sisters Anne Kaplan (Harry) of Nashua, NH, Betty Feller (Joseph), blessed with many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue on Friday, July 25, 2003 at 9 a.m. Interment Jewish Community cemetery , Bank Street. Shiva visitation, 2-4 and 6:45-9 at the home of Gladys and John Greenberg. Evening prayer services at the house of Shiva at 6:50 p.m. Special thanks to Dr. A. Jain and to her compassionate caregivers, Anna, Cita, Grace, Marcy, Marina and Venice. Arrangements in care of the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry. Kathleen Walsh (nee Kitt) - 07/24/2003

Peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in her 90th year. Predeceased by beloved husband Paul, brothers Frank, Thomas, and Joseph Kitt and sister May Craffey, all of County Galway, Ireland. Will be sadly missed by devoted sister Nellie Rogers. Cherished mother of Rita (Hal Parker), Pauline (Michael Fitzpatrick) and Brendan. Loving grandmother of Mark, Jeffrey, Anne and Stephen Fitzpatrick, and Kevin, Paul and David Parker. Will be fondly remembered by sister-in-law Dorothy Kitt and many relatives and friends in Ireland and Canada. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Rd. (at Aviation Parkway) on Friday, July 25, 2003 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 320 Olmstead St. at 10 a.m.

James Tilley Ward - 07/24/2003

CWO, RCASC (Ret'd) Korean Veteran Peacefully at Medex Extendicare Ottawa on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 in his 77th year. Beloved husband of Jean (nee Foy). Son of the late Charlotte (Culvenwill) and James T. Ward from England. Dear brother-in-law of Josephine Ward (the late Ernest) of Ottawa and Isabella Foy of Sudbury. Dear uncle of Sanda Plewes (Chris) and their children Kim and Jeff; Carol Ward (Frank Greene) and their son Shane; and Barbara. Jim's life was the Army for 35 years serving in Korea and Post-War in Germany, England and Canada. He had a passion for golfing, curling, travelling and was involved with Christ Church Cathedral. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Friday, July 25, 2003 from 2 to 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday July 26, 2003 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the C.N.I.B. would be appreciated by the family.

Kathleen Clara Wilson (nee Coulthart) - 07/23/2003

Peacefully at the Gallien Manor on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at the age of 96. Dearly beloved wife of the late William George Wilson. Loving mother of George William Wilson (Margaret). Also loved by her three granddaughters, Margaret "Peggy" VanZante, Laura Taudien (Gordon) and Linda Mosher (Tony); one great-granddaughter Deanna Taudien and one great-grandson Michael Mosher. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 from 7 to 9pm. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 12noon. Interment St. John's Parish cemetery , Richmond, ON. Sgt. Donald Albert Wyers - 07/22/2003

R.C.M.P. Retired Peacefully at his home, with his family by his side, on Saturday, July 19th, 2003, aged 60 yrs. Loving husband of Carol. Beloved father of Stephen (Natalie), Robert (Andrea) and Tom (Shannon). Dear brother of David (Lorraine). Dearest Grampie of Madison, Jacob, Cameron, Jenna, Andrew and Keith. Uncle of Allison and Timothy. Devoted son-in-law of Mary Douglas (nee Earley). Don graduated from the R.C.M.P. Depot, Regina and served 34 years of good service. He was posted in Nova Scotia for 22 years and 12 years in Ottawa. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Don's compassion and kindness has touched many lives throughout both his service and friendship and will be missed by all who knew him. Friends may attend a Service of Remembrance at St. James United Church, 5540 Main Street, Osgoode, On Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. James United Church, Osgoode would be appreciated.

Harold Alguire - 08/01/2003

Surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2003, in his 79th year, after a long courageous battle with cancer. 36 years of loyal Public Service with Canada Post, Museum of Civilization, and RCAF veteran of 27 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Purley (Nixon), devoted and loving father to son Darryl (Elizabeth Rutherford), son Jack (predeceased), son Bruce, daughter Lori (Tom Cleverdon); cherished grandfather of Ryan (Cleverdon), Kelly (Cleverdon), and Laura (Alguire). Predeceased by parents Ernest and Alice Alguire of Cornwall, brothers William and Arnold, and sister Helen (McGregor). Survived by dear sister Edith (Neil Cummings of Madison, Georgia). Surrounded by a loving circle of relatives and friends. A special thank you to DVA, community care providers, and the Cancer Centre for their endless, devoted support and care. For those who wish, donations to the Cancer Centre would be appreciated. Family will receive relatives and friends at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road, (at Aviation Parkway), Ottawa on Saturday, August 2nd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Sunday, August 3rd at 1 p.m. Private cremation and interment to follow.

Beverly Angus Anderson - 07/28/2003

MBE (W01 Retired) Quietly at home on July 26, 2003 at 85 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Jocelyn (nee Jo Newell) for nearly 55 years. Loving father of Brian (Zheng), Ross (Carolyn), Susan (Mark Dickinson), and Keith (Phyllis Cross). Doting grandfather of Sara Anderson, Lars and Dayne Anderson, and Michael Lobban. Predeceased by his parents, Horace Pratt and Mamie Anderson (nee Ryan), and his brother Gerald (Lois Anderson). Bev had a distinguished military career in the Canadian Army from 1938 to 1964. He was awarded numerous medals, including the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of extremely valuable services, as well as a Citation in Orders and subsequent Award of a Royal Humane Society Parchment by HRH The Duke of Gloucester for gallantly saving a drowning boy's life in the Grand Canal at Greenford, Middlesex. Bev was personal secretary to AGL (Andrew) McNaughton, General Officer Commanding, Headquarters 1st Canadian Division 1939-40. After WWII, Bev held numerous positions, including working at the Staff College in Kingston. After leaving the army, Bev was the insurance administrator for the Union of National Defense Employees (UNDE) until his retirement in 1983. Bev was active in sports, including hockey and golf. (He played defense for the Canadian Army team during WWII). He coached in the Carlingwood Little League. As a qualified CAHA Referee, he officiated in Bel Air Park hockey leagues. He was a member at Hylands Golf Club for the last 30 odd years. Bev was involved with various community groups, including the 89th Boy Scout Group Committee and Red Feather. He was an active member and fundraiser at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church for many years. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road on Monday, July 28, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until Service time in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment Pinecrest cemetery. Reception following interment at the West Chapel. A gift to the Palliative Care Outreach Program, 1455 Woodroffe Ave S, Nepean, ON K2G 1W1 in Bev's memory would be appreciated by the family.

Martha Elisabeth Anderson (nee Shepherd) - 07/30/2003

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Martha Anderson, aged 79 years on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 in Ottawa. Survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Donald G. Anderson; children Heather (Murray) Kinnear, Sara (Philip) Ellis-Berman, Karen Anderson and special friends Joseph Cull and Ian Engelberg. Devoted grandmother to Lara, Stacey, Scott, Tolmie and Sydney and great-grandchildren Chloe and Ethan. Loving aunt of Dale Bryan and David Shepherd, sister-in-law of Rhoda Shepherd and Frank Anderson (the late Joyce). Martha was born and raised in the Kingston area and predeceased by her parents Earl and Flora Shepherd, daughter Joy Anderson and brother Bill Shepherd. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Thursday, July 31, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Mary Assaly - 07/25/2003

passed away peacefully at her home in Ottawa, July 24, 2003. Beloved wife of the late Ernest W. Assaly. Loving mother to Linda Assaly and the late Richard E. Assaly. Grandmother to Vanessa, Nicholas, Austin, Sabrina and Bradley. She is also survived by her brother George (Edna Assaly) as well as her daughter-in-law Shirley Assaly and sister-in-law Jeanette Assaly, and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by her brothers Mike, Joe and sister Olga. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter and Paul Melkite Greek Catholic Church, 1161 River Road, Ottawa, on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Pinecrest cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Breast Cancer Society or to the Ernest W. Assaly Nephrology Endowment Fund. Peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 aged 88 years. Beloved wife of the late William Leslie. Loving mother of Joan Sippel (Richard) of Webster, NY and William (Sandra) of Mineral Wells, TX. Dear grandmother of Christopher, John and Kathleen Sippel, Adrianne and Alexa Beecroft. Dear sister of Myrtle Bradley, Robert Firminger and Hazel Cummings.
