REID, WENDY (nee Woodrow) - We put your picture under the tree, To be reminded of your smiling face, A memory that is fresh in all our minds That we could never try to replace. Little Majenta speaks of you often And dreams that her Mommy is here, To sit, cuddle and laugh with During this special time of year. If there was a gift from you to us, On our first Christmas apart, That gift would be for strength and comfort Inside our aching heart. Jake (John Bruce) Counter
COUNTER, Jake (John Bruce) - Hearts did break When Jake the Snake From Kahshe Lake Did not awake Suddenly, at home, on February 13, 2008, this unique and colourful life force was extinguished at the age of 59 - going on 19. Many a visit to our beloved Kahshe Lake was jump-started with a stopover at Jakes cottage, “The Clay“ for a “cocktail“ and a wild rollercoaster ride. Those who knew him very well, holders of “Jake stock“ received rich dividends of laughter, joy, generosity and love and many others who crossed his zany path will never forget him. Predeceased by loving parents Mary (1997) and Bruce (1988). Jake will be so sadly missed by older brother Bill (Mister Bill) and wife Karen, and mourned inconsolably by younger brother Ross (Rosco) and wife Liz (Miss Lizzie). Sister Pam, the girl next door deeply grieves the dearest and most exasperating neighbour one could ever have. Jake was a “cool“ uncle to Maria , Lizzie, Billy, Rosemary, George, and James and leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins who shared fun times with him. To his merry band of Muskoka brothers who sustained him with loyalty and friendship as well as the occasional taxi ride to the “in“ and “out“ store, his family extends their heartfelt appreciation. Special love and gratitude goes to his beloved Deacon, Ray Jr. and Glennie. Hats off also to chauffeurs Wildcat and Howard, supershopper Ross G, financial advisor Ross K, personal assistant Tracy Ann and ex-wife and nurse Teddy. You, his extended family sat round his table while he held court, enveloped him in the warmth of community and patiently endured his frenetic exuberance. A wise man once said “Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man“. Jake, thank you for being that friend.
