At the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, on Monday, May 26, 2003, Marta Korpan, age 93, of Tilbury and formerly of Chatham Township, beloved wife of the late Stefan Korpan (1991).
Born in the Ukraine in 1910, daughter of the late Mary (Sawchun) and Joseph Yurkiw.
Marta and her husband Stefan immigrated to Canada, arriving in Quebec in 1929.
From there they went to Swift Current, Sask. and moved to Chatham in 1941 and to the farm in Chatham Township in 1944.
Loving mother of Bill Korpan and his wife Jeanette of Chatham Township, Joe Korpan and his wife Marie of Chatham Township, Nick and his wife Marie of Oakville, Rosemary Ternoey and her husband Charlie of Tilbury East, and Kathy Smith and her husband Doug of Tilbury.
Sadly missed by 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchilren.
She is predeceased by a son, Jim Korpan (1974); a daughter-in-law, Ann (Steen) Korpan; and by brothers and sisters in Ukraine.
Friends and relatives called at the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. South.
Parastas (Mass of Resurrection) was celebrated on Thursday, May 29, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eugene Halekski as celebrant.
Panakhyda (parish prayers) were said at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
