Peacefully on his birthday, Wednesday, October 1, 2008, after a lengthy illness, at the Perley Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Joyce (nee Lucas) for over 63 years. Dear father of Debbie (Ken Fitzgerald), and Malcolm (Carole), Proud and supportive grandfather of Mike and Blake Fitzgerald and Will Beaton. Roy will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Born October 1, 1924 in Moosejaw Saskatchewan, he was raised in Detroit and Ottawa. He joined the Navy at age 17, and served honorably as a public servant for 42 years. A private family service will be held. It is with sadness that we announce that Elizabeth (Betty) passed away peacefully after a short illness on Saturday, December 18, 2010 in the Ottawa Civic Hospital at age 83. Loving mother to - Carlan (Brigite), Jeffrey (Elizabeth), Robert, Philip and Brian (Kristi). Cherished by her 10 grandsons - Andrew, David, Noah, Michael (Roxanne), Adam, Michael, Matthew, Benjamin, Jamie (Tracey), Christopher and her 5 great grandchildren - Emily,Tyler,Victoria,Alex and Cole.Beloved sister-in-law to Geraldine Van Steenbergen (John) and Bill Stants (Evlyn). Fondly remembered by Samya, Sacha and her many nephews and nieces. Betty is predeceased by her mother Elizabeth Amey, her parents Harold and Carrie (Orange) Arnold, sisters Mildred, Muriel, and Dorothy and Squadron Leader John (Dutch) Stants. Born in Ottawa, Betty was a graduate of the High School of Commerce and the Ottawa Civic Hospital’s School of Nursing. She had a long career in nursing as a Nursing Sister in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp., at the Royal Victoria Hospital (Montreal) and the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Her family would like to thank all those who showed Betty kindness during the later part of her life.
