Bryant, Ronald William Gower
1915-2003 A broad-minded, good-natured man, Ron Bryant died peacefully in Ottawa on December 3rd, 2003. Born 1915 in Manchester, England, Ron studied geography and urban planning at the University of Aberdeen and the London School of Economics. For the duration of the World War II he served as a major in the British Army in Africa and the Far East. After helping plan the post-war reconstruction of English cities, Ron immigrated to Canada with his wife and three sons. He continued work as an urban planner and then taught at the University of Montreal and Concordia University, gaining the respect and admiration of his students. Besides his family and academic interests, Ron's passions were reading, travel, and both real and model railways. He was well-known for his train layouts and he was made a lifetime member of the 2mm Association in recognition of his pioneering efforts in this scale; an early example exists in the York Museum of Transportation. Ron was tolerant of differences and fluent in several languages. As he often said, he lived "with open eyes and an open mind". He was truly at home wherever he went. The family extends a special thank-you to his caregiver Pamela. Also, thanks to the staffs of the Salvation Army Grace and Carlingview Manors. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marjorie, brother Phillip (Maureen), sons John (Colette), David (Smita) and Simon (Paula), and grandchildren Ravindra and Kiran. Bon voyage, Ron!
