Rusenstrom, Thomas Emerson
February 13, 1921 - June 15, 2009
Beloved husband for 63 years of Lois, who predeceased him by a few weeks. Father of Dennis Rusenstrom and Susan Pilkington. Grandfather of Geoffrey, Jamie and Jonathan Pilkington and great-grandfather of Holly. Predeceased by brothers and sisters Pearl, Alva, Lillian, Nobel, Emily and Elmer. Tom served Canada in WWII, had a military career which took him around the world and was a longstanding member of the Masons and Shriners. The family would like to thank the staff of the Perley-Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre and the Bridlewood Residence for their excellent care. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt), on Thursday, July 2 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 12:00 noon. The urns for Tom and Lois will be placed together at Capital Memorial Gardens, followed by a reception. All are welcome. Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Rideout, Ernest (Ernie) E.
Veteran RCAF, 1941-1944
Nov 2nd, 1920 - June 9th, 2009. passed away peacefully at the Perley Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre in Ottawa. Ernie was born in Grand Falls, NB, the eldest of eleven children. He is predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary (Hitchcock) Rideout, his sister Mary Emily and his brothers Walker, Samuel, Hallam, Hurlow, Frank and David. Survived by brother Donald and sister Elizabeth (both of Fredericton, NB.) and sister Roberta (Erdenheim, PA.) Remembered with love by his many nieces and nephews and their children and by his many friends and acquaintances. Ernie served in England with the RCAF from 1941 through 1944 as an aircraft mechanic with the 406 Lynx squadron. After the war he graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bch. of Science in Forestry and worked as a forester until his retirement from the federal government. His interests included hunting and fishing and he was past director of the Ottawa Bridge Club. His greatest pleasure in life was the company of others and will be fondly remembered as a kind and caring friend to all who knew him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ottawa 2 East at the Perley Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre for their excellent compassionate and supportive care. A memorial service will be held at the Perley Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, 1750 Russell Road, on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 1:00 pm., followed by a visitation at the Guy L. O’Regan Funeral Home Grand Falls, N.B. on Saturday, June 20, 2009 from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at the Baptist cemetery in Ortonville, N,B. In memory of Ernie, donations may be made to the Perley Rideau Veterans’ Health Foundation or to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

Smith, Ellen Orlick
Peacefully on 13 June 2009, predeceased by her beloved husband George on 13 June 2001. Ellen and George grew up in Hamilton and were married June 1935. They moved to Ottawa in 1950 and established Randall’s Paints and ColorSmiths, and were active in Kinsmen and Kinettes. They were equal partners in business and life. Left to laugh, cry, and retell her stories are their two “perfect” daughters, Patricia Ann Menconi Garrett (John) of Houston and Jennifer Ellen Salahub (Dennis) of Calgary. Grandmother to Debra, Al (Erica) and David (Marcy). Great-grandma Ellen to: Britney and Trey; Brooke, Sonia, Elyse and Xander; Sasha, Suzette, Tiffany, Skylar and Cole. Also survived by her cherished nieces, nephews and caring friends. Ellen never divulged her age and we aren’t breaking the faith! She lived a full life and loved to read. Might we suggest that you support the Friends of the Public Library Association as a gesture of remembrance? At Ellen’s request there will be no visitation or service.

Roe, Keith Merton Barclay
Peacefully in hospital on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 in his 78th year. Beloved husband of Mary Montgomery. Loving father of Lianna McQuirter (Bill). Cherished grandpa of Avery. Brother of Thelma Moore (the late Leonard), Lois Dowdall (Russell), Glenys Smallshaw (the late Gerry), Reg (Lesley) and Lorraine Hanna (Mel). Also survived by sister-in-law Dorothy Roe and brothers-in-law Bernie Devine and Garth Garland and many nieces and nephews. Keith is also brother-in-law of Joyce Pearson (Ken), Glenn Montgomery (Audrey), late Eric Montgomery, Hugh Bryce Montgomery (partner Shareen)(late Hazel) and Anne Laurin (late Paul). Predeceased by parents Ernest and Ruby Roe; brothers Gerald and Hillis (the late Verna) and sisters Eleida Devine and Marlyn Garland. Friends may call at the Carp Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 115 Rivington St., Carp on Sunday from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, Carp on Monday at 1 p.m. Interment Huntley Presbyterian cemetery. Brough, James Norris
(W/C Retired) Peacefully and unexpectedly at Riverpark Place on Sunday, December 14, 2003 at the grand age of 92 years. Whether it be for family, friends, education, the RCAF or his recreational and sporting pursuits, Jim/Norris was dedicated to always doing his very best. He will be dearly missed by all those close to him, particularly Mary his wife of 60 years, his children Don (Susan Reeve) and Laurie (Marilynne), his grandchildren Christy and Todd, his sisters Margaret Simons and Lucille Lane (Robert), and his sister-in-law Amy Beament (John). He was predeceased by his sister Florian and by his brother John. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of All Saints Anglican Church, 347 Richmond Road, Ottawa, on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Special thanks to the staff of Riverpark Place for their loving care. Cummings, Beatrice Patricia (Nee Rousselle)
Bea died peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in her 89th year, after a short but courageous battle with Leukemia. Beloved wife of the late Roy Cummings, and loving and cherished mother of Vicki Cummings. She will be greatly missed by her extended family and friends. Peacefully at Extendicare Starwood on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Arnold Gale. Loving sister of Jean McClurg (the late Harry) and Irene Ruttle (Irwin). Also survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Westwell (Leonard) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Lloyd Fry. McGlashan, Robert Keith
Beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away June 18th, 2009, born on November 5th, 1922 in Cantley, Quebec, formally residing in Hull, Cobden, Sudbury, Ottawa and Toronto, he is predeceased by his wife Joan Elizabeth (Sheffield) and Evelyn Beatrice (Crump), his brother Grant and his parents Grace Edith and Robert James. He is remembered with love by his sister Jean (McGlashan) Steel; and his children and their families; his daughter Sandy (McGlashan) Boudreau, son-in-law Paul, and their children Joshua, Jacob and Jared; and son David and daughter-in-law Mary Bell. Thank you to the staff at Sunnybrook Veterans’ Hospital and his personal caregiver Carol Christchurch. He will be sadly missed by friends and family.
