Suddenly, at New Westminster, B.C. on Thursday, March 22nd, 2001, Jamie, aged 30 years. Beloved son of Doug and Deb Greenwood and Deborah Asselstine, all of Oshawa. Dear brother of Sarah, loving grandson of Mrs. Isa Zellie, and nephew of Bill Caskey and Rob Zellie. Suddenly at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Thursday, March 22, 2001, Gerald Whalen, age 67 years. (Retired in 1992 from Warner-Lambert Co.). Beloved husband of Barbara Whalen for 49 years. Dear father of Nancy Desveaux (Frank), Gary Whalen (Lenora) and the late Patrick Whalen (Debbie). Loving grandfather of Andrea, Patrick, Krystal, Lauren and Danielle. Loving son of Florence and the late Cecil Whalen. Proud grandfather of David and Suzanne; Erin and Brendan; Denine and John Hickey, Robert and Jennifer; and great-grandfather of Rory, Katie and David Lee. Dear brother of Muriel and Margaret. The family will receive friends at the McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Dear father to Kathy (Mrs. Brian Chilton) of Vancouver, B.C., Lori (Mrs. John Brohm) of Pittsburgh, PA. U.S.A., Ralph and Brenda Gillett of Ajax, Ontario and the late Philip Gillett. Devoted grandfather to Kimberley Hodge, Matthew and Caeleigh Brohm and Michael, Joshua and Ashley Gillett. Lovingly remembered by sister Jean Bothwell of Bowmanville, Ontario, brother Gordon Jarvie (Dorothy) of Oshawa and the late George Jarvie of B.C. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. World War II Veteran, Queen's Own Rifles, Life Member of Can. Corps 42, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 637, passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Centre, Tuesday, March 20, 2001. Alan King, in his 82nd year. Predeceased by his father Edward and mother Annie. Loving husband of June (nee Hawkins). Devoted brother of Ross and wife Monique, niece Carolyn (Ken). Dear father of Jack (Kaye), Ron (Marilyn) and daughter Barb (Pete). Will be greatly missed by grandchildren Francis (Michael) of Calgary, Richard (Mary), Janet (Veto), Sherry (Richard) of Windsor, John (Tracy) of Barrie, Bill (Karen) Shawn of Oshawa. Predeceased by grandson Ronald. Great-grandchildren Michaela, Quentin, Jacqulin, Allyshia, Joseph, Kyle, Breanna, Brendan, Dustin, Amanda, Connor and Cassidy.Alan served in Canada North Atlantic area and United Kingdom from June 1940 - January 1943, returning to Kingston, Ontario 1942, to be re-commissioned to Lieutenant and returned overseas January 1943 and served until 1945. He received the Meritorious Service Award from Can. Corps 42 1967, Centennial Medal 1967, Queen's Jubilee Medal 1977, 125th Anniversary of Confederation 1993, as well as many other medals for service during the war. Alan was Pres. of Can. Corps which he joined in 1953, from 1963-1964, 1975-81, 1985-1992, again 96, 97, 1999. Pres. Ontario Command 1967-1967, 2nd Vice Pres. Dominion Command 1985, 1st Vice Pres. Dominion Command 1996. Alan retired after 30 years from General Motors. He is also survived by his cousins in England. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Resting at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King St. East, Oshawa. Funeral Service in the Chapel Saturday, March 24th at 1:00 p.m. Interment MOUNT LAWN cemetery , Whitby.
