Betty Doreen Stevenson (nee Armstrong) - 11/21/2005

Betty died with dignity surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 20, 2005. Beloved wife of Walter "Steve". Cherished mother of Debbie (Bob), Joan (Barry), Barbara (Emillo) and Sandra (Tom). Loving grandmother of Tamara, Mathew, Tina (Trevor), Anika, Jordan and great-grandmother to Deeandra. She is survived by her siblings Bobby, Beverley, Art, Nancy, Lorna and Larry. Predeceased by brother Ross. Dear daughter of the late Elgin and Christina Armstrong. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road at Aviation Parkway, on Wednesday, November 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, November 24 from 10 a.m. until service time in the Chapel at 11:30 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or to CHEO would be appreciated.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Ward - 11/19/2005

Peacefully at the Montfort Hospital on Friday, November 18, 2005. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Nicholas Ward. Loving mother of Sarah (Michael), Robert (Leslie) and Joanna (Oscar). Doting grandmother of Thomas, Hugh, Nicola and Sarita. Jacqueline's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff of the Montfort Hospital for their kind and compassionate care throughout her illness, especially Drs. Gauthier, Michaud, Schniderman and St. Jean and nurses Giselle, Yolande and Mario. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Monday from 7 to 10pm and Tuesday, from 2 to 5pm. A private cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, Jacqueline's family would graciously appreciate a donation to the Montfort Hospital Foundation. A Celebration of Life for Jackie will take place during the Christmas season. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Brian Henry Wilson Q.C. - 11/20/2005

Peacefully, at home on Saturday, November 19, 2005 in his 77th year. Son of the late Henry and Charlotte Wilson. Survived by his wife Joan, his daughter Leslie and several cousins. Grateful thanks to the Palliative Care at Home Team. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod St. on Thursday, November 24, 2005 from 10:30am until service in the Chapel at 11:30am. Reception to follow. Burial at Capital Memorial Gardens. Josefina Aleria - 12/21/2005

Accidentally, on December 19, 2005, at age 53. Survived by family and friends in the Philippines and Canada. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Friday, December 23, 2005 from 6-9pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday at 11am. Reception to follow in the McGarry Family Reception Centre.

Geroge Murray Allen - 12/19/2005

Suddenly on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at the age of 71 years. Much loved husband of Maisie (nee Pafford). Father of Dr. Murray Allen (Dr. Anne Hamilton), Ottawa, Robert Allen (Sudhatri Murthy), Toronto and the late Patricia Allen. Dear grandfather of Patrick, Timothy, Kathleen, Meridith, Vivien, Sharmila, David and Matthew. Brother of Arthur (Shirley), Kingston; Doris Sharp, Halifax; Frank, Kentville, N.S.; Phyllis Trefry (Ross), Marion King (Albert), Ruth Swim, all of Yarmouth, N.S., and predeceased by Henry Allen and Beatrice Crosby. George retired from the RCMP as Assistant Commissioner after 35 years of service and then worked as Commissioner of Elections Canada. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend who enjoyed wood carving, tree planting, home renovating, watching his grandkids play soccer and spending time with his family. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road at Aviation Parkway, Ottawa on Wednesday, December 21st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, December 22nd, 2005 at 11:30am. Reception to follow. Interment Pinecrest cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Eva Berry - 12/11/2005

1910 - 2005
With sadness we announce the death of our mother, Eva E. Berry on Saturday, December 10, 2005, six days before her 95th birthday, from complications of a stroke three weeks earlier. Eva was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert A. Berry, her parents, David and Hannah Cossman and her nine brothers and sisters. Left with wonderful memories of her dynamic presence are her daughter Anne Berry and her husband Michael Diduch and her son David Berry and his wife Elizabeth and daughter, Sarah. Eva was born in North Sydney, NS and raised in Montreal where she attended McGill University. In World War II, she served as a captain in the Canadian Women's Army Corps working with the Interservice Committee for Protection of Prisoners of War in Enemy Hands and with the relocation of British war brides in Canada. After the war, she married and established a family. Once her children were in school, Eva pursued her interests in broadcasting with the CBC. In 1960, she was elected to the Ottawa Board of Education where she served until 1974. Eva participated on the Canadian Council for Research in Education and the Ontario Trustee and Rate Payers Association. Eva also worked part-time at the Canadian Journal of Genetics and Cytology. From 1976 to 1984, Eva was chairperson of the Unemployment Insurance Board of Referees. She also participated on many committees including the Ottawa Library Board and the Board of Education Advisory Board. In retirement, she shared many interests with her husband including extensive travel, continuing education, and theatre and opera. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Colonel By Retirement Residence where Eva made her home during the last six years of her life. Many became her best friends. At Eva's request, funeral arrangements will be private. In memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario at 200-1900 Merivale Road, Ottawa, ON K2G 4N4.

Eileen Loretta Best (Folan) - 12/05/2005

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom on December 4, 2005 at the age of 83. Loving mother of Allan (Diane Cardinal) of Markham and Marilyn of Ottawa. Proud and devoted Nanny of Christopher and Stephanie Park and Gregory Best. Great grandmother of Drew McEvoy. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Island Lodge and Peter D.Clark Centre for the exeptionally kind and loving care given to Mom over the past 9 years. A kind and gentle lady, she will remain forever in the hearts of those who were blessed with sharing her life. A service for our Mom, Nanny and friend will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 11:30am. Her family will receive friends after 9:30am. For those wishing, memoriam donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Elizabeth Gwyn Combes - 12/21/2005

Peacefully, at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Care Centre after a long struggle with cancer, Elizabeth left this world with her family beside her on December 20, 2005. Beloved wife of Robert Neufeld. Dear daughter of Gwen Buckingham of Parkhill, Ontario and Gordon Combes of St. Mary s, Ontario. Dear sister of Barry Combes (Carol), Pamela Mulholland (Lorne), Nancy Buckingham-Post (Marvin) and Jane Buckingham. Special daughter-in-law to Rudy and Anne Neufeld of St. Catharines. Ontario and dear sister-in-law to Joanne Lebel (Denis) of London, Ontario and Robin Bailey (Charles) of Trenton, Ontario. Liz was also a much loved aunt to Leigh and Steven Trimm-Combes of Toronto and Lucas Lebel of London, Ontario. Liz will also be missed by her many friends in Ottawa and across Canada and by her colleagues at the History Department of the University of Ottawa. The family would like to offer its thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and support staff who have provided such wonderful support and care over the past two years. Cremation has taken place. A gathering to celebrate Liz s life will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Friday, January 6, 2006 from 2-4pm with words of remembrance at 3pm. Alicje Anna Maria Cornelissen - 12/14/2005

Peacefully, on December 12, at the Ottawa General Hospital from complications related to lupus. Alicje was born in Cornwall, Ontario on May 13, 1959 and grew up on a dairy farm in nearby Williamstown. Alicje leaves behind her beloved husband, Rory Gooderham, her cherished children, Maaike Tess and Willem Ross, her dear parents, Francis and Maria Cornelissen, two brothers, five sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alicje received a Bachelor of Science from Bishop s University in Lennoxville, Quebec and a Master of Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute outside of Boston, Massachusetts. She became an expert in fire protection engineering and devoted her career, which took her around the world, to fire safety and building code development. Over her 24-year long fight with lupus she proved wrong those who thought her illness would prevent her from achieving the professional success she enjoyed and from having her beautiful children who became the light of her life. Visitation will take place at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry on Thursday, December 15 from 2-4 and from 7-9pm., 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa and a funeral mass will be held at St. Mary s Catholic Church in Williamstown, Ontario on Friday, December 16, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ottawa Branch of the Ontario Lupus Association, care of the Arthritis Society, 20-2269 Riverside Dr., Ottawa, ON K1H 8K2

Margaret D. Coulthart - 12/12/2005

Peacefully at the Glebe Centre on Sunday, December 11, 2005 in her 87th year. Beloved daughter of the late Ernest and Annie Coulthart. Dear sister of Mrs. Oliver Geraux of Dundas, ON, Mrs. David Rea of Hamilton, ON and Mr. John Coulthart of Toronto, ON. Survived by her cousins Arlyss Young and Roy Empey. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday, December 14th, 2005 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, December 15th, 2005 at 10 a.m. Interment at Maple Ridge cemetery in the Spring.
